Battery Gardens Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant was empty on Monday night, surprising as the view of the harbor is wonderful, the food was good, service attentive and the price for the pre fixe was remarkably reasonable. Its a lovely room as well. It was too cold to sit outside which would be even better. Not worth a special trip but if you are nearby worth a walk.
I came for lunch and the view . The view is the best thing about the place and why you would even consider spending the higher prices. Otherwise the food was just ok but looked as tired as the surroundings. Overall, the place could use a facelift right down to the pale looking Tuna Tartar which I ordered and was not impressed .
I am not likely to come back. I only came here because my reservation at Giginos ( just up the street ) was unfortunately cancelled. It has a similar view but the food is outstanding and worth every penny.
Accepted a reservation on Open Table for Sunday brunch even though a wedding was booked in. There was no table and our party of four included two over 80 years old. That's stupid and claiming they called us that morning -- remember I said brunch -- was a lie and stupid.
No apology, no offer to host us in the future for their error and we were in the middle of tourist country with two elderly folks who were hungry.,
Just awful treatment.
I came here for a bachelor party with 9 guys and we were all very impressed. I found the restaurant on Google Maps and thought we would give it a try. The view was amazing - we could see the statue of liberty very clearly from our table on the outdoor patio. The staff was super friendly and fun, especially our waiter, Tarique? The prices were reasonable given the location and the food selection. The food was good and brought out in a very timely manner. All in all, this was a great experience and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a place to eat in the Financial-District/Battery Park area.
We had a group of 10 for a promotion celebration lunch. The food was very good however, it seemed to be a problem when we asked to sit inside instead of outside. Also, one of our servers was not pleasant at times when taking our orders. Rolling of his eyes going on. For automatic 20% tip he should have been more than pleasant at all times.
We hadn't been to Battery Gardens in a few years, but always liked it. On a beautiful day, we decided to have a birthday lunch on the terrace. The view is fabulous...dining with the Statue of Liberty and boat traffic on the river.
Our waiter, from whom we ordered a prix fixe lunch, seemed annoyed and unfriendly. My salmon was overlooked and tasteless, while my husband's hangar steak was flavorful, but very tough. The salad was fine, but ordinary.
I would recommend a drink on the terrace for the wonderful view.
The wine steward did not know the difference between a beaujolais-village (which was on the menu) and a beaujolais (which he brought). The menu said that the crab cake was made of "jumbo lump crabmeat," but that was obviously false; the crab cake was tasteless.
I have very rarely refused to leave a tip, but I got up from the table feeling cheated.
There was a company party being held the evening we dined here, and it was incredibly loud and disruptive. It also greatly slowed service, and we spent 3 hours here without meaning to do so. None of the staff is very responsive, and the outdoor area is nothing more than uncomfortable metal chairs beside overgrown bushes. Not a great view, which is yet more of a disappointment due to the regular Staten Island Ferry foghorn.
Been here twice in the past few yrs. Had my first Chilean sea bass here!! Odd tho that outdoor dining had no water view tho nice plant screens from the pedestrians. Skimpy wine list but food excellent and service nice. Very friendly and other waiters would check on us when ours wasn't around.
All the folks at Battery Gardens Restaurant helped make a very special occasion even more fantastic! Our table was set up exactly as we'd requested, using our decorations and Matt, Tariq, Christina all went out of their way to make it top notch.
The table setting, in shade, looked great to our guests from London, Korea and Nj who were expecting a simple lunch!
The food itself, from the prix fixe menu received rave reviews from everyone.
Thank you to Matt, Tariq and their team all the wonderful work and keeping the pace of lunch and drinks at a very enjoyable length of time.
Wanted someplace special with a great view, and Battery Gardens did not disappoint on that front. Our party of seven loved the outdoor table just steps from the water in Battery Park. The food was very good, including a hummus flatbread which we all shared, an octopus salad, sea bass, and less so the grilled chicken salad and pizza. But the service was a bit lacking. Twice our waitress came by, looked at the empty table and asked if the food had arrived (it had not). Also, I specifically mentioned when making the reservation and when confirming, that we were celebrating two birthdays. However, when the dessert arrived, there was no candle and no indication that that information had been communicated. I walked up to the hostess and told her, however she was completely uninterested and asked me if I told the waitress. That being said, I would return and would recommend this spot, especially on a beautiful day. I can't imagine a better place to spend a leisurely afternoon. It's truly a unique oasis in the city.
I booked this for Father's Day because of the great outdoor seating and brunch menu listed online. When we were seated, I asked for brunch emu only to find out they don't serve brunch. Service was slow and inattentive. Food was just mediocre. Not worth the $$.
The Battery Gardens location is beautiful. Unfortunately, the food is sub par. I ordered the pasta bolognese and could not eat it. The waitstaff was pretty inattentive and at one point I had to get up and find our waiter so we could get salt and pepper. Lastly, Battery Gardens looks as though it is falling apart. The interior is very dingy. The tables outside seem to be on their last legs. It wouldn't take much to make Battery Gardens go from a "2" to a "8 or 9." But right now it's a "2."
There were a lot of people serving us, but every time we asked for something (butter, a roll, gravy, etc) no one would bring it. Had to ask 3-4 times before someone would bring it. They also cleared plates before we were done eating. They were impatient with us when we asked a few legit questions about the menu. We spent $424 for 3 adults and 1 child. Not sure if the staff was angry they had to work on Thanksgiving or if they are always like that, but we didn't feel welcome.
Food was decent.
The view is nice.
The iconic view of the Statue of Liberty makes this place pretty special. Though it is a bit run-down and could use some renovation, it still makes a good impression overall. Food was very good on Thanksgiving and the servers were very eager to please, though they might have been more accustomed to doing events than table service, and the owner was in attendance and attentive.
If you can make it down when the weather is nice and pair a lunch or dinner with a nice walk around Battery Park, you can have yourself a very nice time.
The views at this restaurant are among the best in the city. Simply fantastic view for a business lunch. However the food has declined in quality significantly. This is evident from the rather small attendance by other guests.I hope the food improves soon or this restaurant will not be around.
we had to eat outside because a wedding was underway! Not a problem as you go there for the view of the ny harbor and the Statue of Liberty. It was a perfect clear evening so especially lovely outdoors. The food was good though not exceptional. Small menu but wide range from pizza to small plates to burger to full entree which is another reason for my original selection of these restaurant. I recommend it.
Very enjoyable last minute find. Bread was stale(acknowledged by waiter). However, brought fresh bread, but not until requested. Good food. Great salad that we shared. It was a beautiful evening, so hard not to enjoy. Rating is because staff was not as attentive as would expect.
We had one day in NYC and tried to jam as much in as possible. We had tickets for the Statue of Liberty and a set time for the top of the rock. It was a day outing for our two grand children who had never been to NYC. We ran in and had to be out in a half hour. The restaurant was lovely. The staff was understanding and got our food out as quickly as possible. It is a white table cloth restaurant with wonderful food and outstanding service. Everything is delicious and it is in Battery Park so walking distance to the boats to the Statue. I would love to return with more time. The view is wonderful and the glass wall looking toward Lady Liberty works perfectly.
We ate at Battery Gardens on the terrace on a Saturday evening about 7 - 8:30 p.m. The food was good. The service attentive without being overly present. The prices are reasonable. But the reason we ate there was for the view which is quite good with the boats on the river, the Statue of Liberty across the water and we were rewarded with a very nice sunset.
