Battery Gardens Ratings and Reviews
Excellent food. Service was mediocre. Great views of the harbor. Overall a nice experience although be careful with the billing. Even though there were only 2 in our party they included an automatic 20% gratuity on the bill which we didn't think was warranted. It lessened the experience.
The restaurant is beautiful and the staff is amazing. Professional. They are use to accommodating weddings so the service is excellent.
The food has been consistent for all the years that I have been going there. It's soo good!
The view and neighborhood is just gorgeous on any night, any time of the year.
What a disappointment ! We took friends from Seattle here for dinner on Friday. There was a private party going on, so we were relegated to the chilly, windy first terrace. Service was slap dash. Obviously, the restaurant was focused on the private event . The food was awful. The fish smelled so strong that those of us who ordered fish were afraid to eat it. All six of us agreed that we would not return.
I believe this place has such a great potential , it is very sad that you don't make the best of it . You have a great wood burn pizza , but the pizza dough it is horrible, I am from Napoli and I know a good pizza .
The food it is not that good , you should improve o change chef , you have high price for very low service and food , for the location and how beautiful the place is ,you should have a line of people out side every day ,breakfast, lunch and dinner .
You have a Pearl ,but you are not taking a good care of it .
Very good location, best view to the harbour with Liberty and Governor Island,
we all eated the menu cause of the time of two hours - there was a great wedding party at the restaurant, so there weren't many other guests at the "garden" - great.
But the restaurant gave us the info of wedding and shorter time slote - everything was fine.
Beautiful restaurant with a fabulous view. We ordered the pre-fix menu which was nice but could have had a bit more on the main dish - it was only a small piece of salmon but it was delicious. The service was a bit hectic as it seemed we had different servers. Had to wait for utensils - had to wait for an extra spoon - but all in all it was nice.
Came here for a business lunch; sat outside since it was a beautiful July day. You can see the Statue of Liberty very clearly. We enjoyed the food and the atmosphere and almost did not want to go back to the office. There's a prix-fixe lunch that includes an appetizer, an entrée, and a dessert for $25 (two choices for each category) which was a great value. We ordered the pizza, salmon, steak, chicken, and hummus platter. All were nicely done.
Great quiet place with a romantic view for a brunch date. Be prepared to shell out some money. Food and drinks are on the pricey side for what you are getting. Food was good but not exceptional. Drinks were watered down with ice and also pricey. Service was "okay".
The location of this restaurant is compelling. Poised next to the Staten Island Ferry terminal, you have a ringside seat of New York Harbor - full of ships, boats, ferries and stunning views of the Statue of Liberty.
The menu items we sampled including the Prix-Fixe menu were all tasty and carefully prepared. The service at the outdoor tables was a little uneven and there was a discrepancy in the bill, but all was graciously resolved.
An added perk of this location is the proximity to the new Sea Glass Carousel which is equally fun to ride and then also to watch, just steps away in Battery Park.
The place is beautiful. All 7 of us felt like we were on vacation. We had requested seating outside, but it was too hot, so we were able to go inside and were allowed to pick our table. Of course, we chose one w a fantastic view of the Statue of Liberty and sail boats gliding on the river. We had the pre fixe 3-course lunch (a great bargain at $25 per person). The menu was limited in that the entrée was either salmon or steak. Five of us ordered the pre fixe - everyone who ordered the salmon loved it (me included) and those who had the steak raved about it. Two people ordered from the regular menu and liked their selections. Some people ordered drinks at the outside bar while waiting for the others to arrive. They paid at the bar for their drinks. However, when the bill came we were charged for a drink that we didn't have. The waitress did take it off our bill but seemed a little annoyed. When we paid her (cash - w a 20% tip), she proceeded to count the money in front of us. We were amazed. I've never seen anything like that. Maybe she was inexperienced. In spite of that, we all had a great time and will probably go back on another beautiful day - maybe in the autumn so we can take advantage of the outdoor patio.
Beautiful seating on the water. We went at the end of June for an 8:00 reservation and it was perfect timing for the sunset. Great view of the Statue of Liberty. Considering the location, it was very reasonably priced. And food was good. Sea bass was a very small portion so I would consider that a little over priced. But indefinitely recommend it for a romantic night. Right near the 1 and 4/5 trains.
A delightful restaurant with picturesque views of the Statue of Liberty. The service was satisfactory and the food was well presented however, my burger was not cooked well-done as requested. The remainder of the food order was exceptionally good. All-in-all a wonderful setting and a varied menu.
Had some out-of-town guests and we were doing NYC like tourists. After having visited the 9/11 Memorial, we strolled through Battery Park and chanced upon Battery Gardens for lunch. This is truly a hidden gem. You have a magnificent view of the Statue of Liberty as well as moored boats at the small marina. The food was excellent and our waiter was gracious and entertaining. We were fortunate to meet the owner, Paul Nicaj, who is a legend in the NYC hospitality industry. Mr. Nicaj was so charming and warm and regaled us with stories of his restaurant and his participation in the cleanup of Battery Park. He was truly proud of his accomplishments as well he should be. I highly recommend Battery Park for its food, setting, service.
Wonderful outdoor patio, lovely breeze, excellent food. Unfortunately the worst service we have experienced as residents and frequent diners out in Manhattan. Part of the problem was likely that we did not have one committed server, but mostly we were completely ignored. I asked three times for water (85 degree day) before I had to walk up to the server station to find someone to bring water over. We opted for the three course prefix lunch, however after entrees were served our desserts never showed up and no one came to check on us. Eventually a sever came over and gave us the wrong dessert then came back 30 minutes later with only one dessert. We spoke with the manager about the poor service and he did not offer to cover any of the bill until we specifically asked for a discount for poor service. I would love to come back here for the atmosphere, but sadly will not as the service was impeccably bad.
I brought my co-worker here for Admin assistant's day. We were sat immediately upon arrival and were given a window seat. The waiter was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. I had crab cake for appetizer and filet mignon for entrée. Everything was cooked to perfection. They have a spectacular view of lady liberty. It is a little pricey to order ala carte, but worth it. They do have a $25 pre fixe option which is very reasonable for the area.
We had lunch on a weekday to celebrate a colleagues birthday. It was one of the first higher temperature days prior to spring. Our objective was to enjoy the sun and eat well. Battery Gardens didn't disappoint. The views are amazing and ambiance too. The food really surprised. It was delicious and great presentation. For appetizers we had tuna tare tare and crab cake. So good!!! Had the branzino and it was perfect! Overall a great experience and we were all happy to have selected Battery Gardens. Will be back in spring and summer.
The restaurant is tired. They had just painted and the entire restaurant smelled. The hostess did not seem to care at all. Service was unfriendly. Menu was odd - only sandwich was a burger. So most of us got pizza.
The view is always beautiful and we would have liked to sit outside however, they were only serving drinks outside at lunch. It wasn't crowded and I understand why.
Go for drinks and the view, skip lunch.
Went on February 14 and was forced to pick from the Valentines set-price menu. I wasn't happy with that, especially how I wasn't planning on paying 200$ for a lunch for myself and my friend. There was no one else at the restaurant and the table was wobbly. We kept calling them over to fix it but it never got fixed. Also, service could have been better, the servers could have been friendlier and more helpful.
On a more positive note, the food was good. And the view was nice. Good place overall but more for special occasions .
My family went here for Thanksgiving dinner. The appetizers were fantastic. The menu was prefixed so we made sure all four in our party chose one of the appetizers so we could sample them all. The favorite was the goat cheese and beet salad. It was light, refreshing, colorful and very flavorful. The crab cake was excellent and had a slaw and dressing which lightened up the dish. Our turkey dinner was very good. A sampling of white and dark meat. The brussel sprouts were very salty and I was not a fan of mushroom gravy on my turkey. All of the other fixings were very good. All in all it was a great experience eating there on a holiday you usually spend amongst family and friends at home.
