The view of NY harbor are the best both indoors and out. The seasonal specials are creative and quite good. It is a little off the beaten path but once you find it you'll be going back
One irritating point was that they charged 20% "service" and then put a "tip" line in addition to the credit card slip. And service was not that exceptional to deserve 20% top to begin with.
Thanksgiving dinner at Battery Gardens was amazing! The service was friendly and efficient. We were even greeted by the owner of the restaurant who was going table to table. Loved the atmosphere and the view of the Statue of Liberty was the perfect setting for Thanksgiving dinner but I would come here again in a heartbeat!
Beautiful location and decor but overpriced, bland food. Not really worth the cost.
Exceptional! Great service and food! We were also impressed with the setting for our wedding party
I have been coming to Battery Gardens (and its forbears) for a number of years. One thing I like is that I can lunch or dine alone there, enjoy the view, read and people watch. Tipping is the only problem I have with this establishment. It is never clear to me whether it has been added to the bill when it arrives. The whole topic of tipping is a huge one, particularly in New York. It would be good if Open Table could create a level playing field in this area.
Food good but sadly over cooked. Halibut and crab over cooked however steak and salmon were cooked to perfection!
Guter, schneller Service. Man kann im Garten sitzen. Essen sosolala.
Moved out to the outside terrace as restaurant closed for a private function. Lacked atmosphere a bit out there and also quiet dark, so much so that one lady took a fall. Clam chowder and lobster pasta was nice and a pretty nice view of the Hudson and Statue of Liberty lit up at dusk.
It was not very full when we went, yet they still pulled and sat a table right next to ours... to the point that the waitstaff had to find alternate path. The service was very slow and inattentive but nice. Food was ok. A little dry. View was magnificent!!!!! It was an OK experience.
Wonderful dining experience! The food was delicious and the view extraordinary.
Second time there. Food was excellent. Awesome views. The waiter was friendly and even the owner showed up and said hello. There was a wedding party going on at the same time, but we still got great service and enjoyed it very much.
Dinner was wonderful. This restaurant always exceeds my expectations.
A hidden gem that is not so hidden! Right on the water next to the Staten Island ferry. The service was great and the menu and food were excellent. You just can't beat the view. Had a great time and will be back.
The view from the patio couldn't be beat, and while the view from inside wasn't quite as spectacular, the ambiance made up for it. The menu was large enough, and the food was very good. Service was also exceptional!
On August 19 6 of us arrived at Battery Gardens to find a sign on the door saying the restaurant was closed for a private party. I found a manager and explained we had a reservation confirmed by Open Table. He told me that the restaurant was closed and that the problem was with Open Table. He offered us a table outside. Thankfully it was a beautiful evening however dinning outside on uncomfortable chairs was not the experience I had in mind when I made the reservation. Doesn't Open Table verify reservations with the restaurant?.
From the restaurant
Thank you for choosing Battery Gardens, your reservation has been received. We are looking forward to serving you.
Our food was delicious but the experience was marred slightly by one of the waiters hitting on my dining partner while we were eating. Very unprofessional. Otherwise the restaurant was great!
Lovely setting but unfortunately poor service.
My husband and I ate lunch on a beautiful Sunday afternoon overlooking the Statue of Liberty.
I really enjoyed the warm goat cheese salad, and shrimp in a box. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Perfect place for a summertime lunch or dinner.
Very disappointing. I live in NYC and this restaurant seemed like a "tourist trap."
If it wasn't located on the water it probably would be out of business.
Nice location..outdoor waterfront dining. Very flavorful and fresh halibut dinner. My husband had the price fix dinner which was good and very good value. Wish there had been more choices on the price fix menu.
The food, as always, delicious. The view can't be beat.
The service and food were great. The restaurant was hosting a private event the night I was there and they had an outdoor table for me on their patio. The weather was nice and I didn't mind that and the view was cool. The outdoor furniture is a bit beat-up and rusty in spots. Fairly expensive entrees and they automatically added a 20% tip (service fee)
This is not a good restaurant. We have been seated in the waterfront. The view was amazing, but the table and chairs are rusty. Staff is not knowledgeable about the job that they have to do. Constantly spill out water, a glass of wine was not put on table from right but given to my hand, after apetizer the used knife was put back on table instead of take it away and bring a new one.
Dress code is business casual however majority of guest has shorts and flip-flops.
Definitely not a restaurant that I suggest to anyone. Such a bad experience.
Food is ordinary, nothing special.
This is our second visit. We came once before on a NYC trip and came back with two friends from New Zealand who had stopped in NYC on their cruise. We could not think of a better place on a warm summer afternoon to take them for lunch and we were not disappointed. There is an elegant inside dining area with great air conditioning for a hot day. But, we had a beautiful day so opted again to sit outside on the patio. The view of Governor's Island, the Statue of Liberty and the NYC harbor traffic including the Staten Island ferries is equal to the high quality food and very professional service. We had mostly salads (fantastic grilled octopus) and a halibut with draft beers and white sangria - all excellent. Since it was cloudy, the umbrellas were not out (initially a surprise since we were expecting them); however, when a couple of sprinkles started, the staff rushed out umbrellas for the diners. I am sure they would provide them upon request, even on a cloudy (but not too windy) day. Look for the signs since as of July 2017 there was still a bit of construction nearby and this gem is somewhat hidden. But, you will see it once you enter battery park near the ferry terminals - look for the signs.
We had a nice time outside despite the heat, and being confined to the only section that was not reserved for a party of some sort. The view can't be beat, and my friend is a well-known actress who was fortunately left alone (although I think our server was quite excited, but discreet about it .) We really did enjoy it, and it would have been even more fun without the corporate parties in progress. Recommended but check and see what else is going on!
Worst service ever, my wife's birthday I come and they have a closed out event and don't even inform me ahead of time. All my guests are standing outside. Hostess tells me that it's better to sit outside anyway in 100 degree weather when all my guests are dressed in suits and dresses lol thank you for that really professional guys . Never coming back
The food was very tasty and well prepared.
The beer was ice cold.
On arriving at Resturant we discovered they were setting up for a wedding . Very noisey with people moving tables etc about . Couldn't find way into Resturant because of set up for event . Wouldn't have booked if we had know an event on . They shouldn't have taken reservation . We came from UK for 3 special birthday's and thought we had booked a nice relaxing Resturant but it turned out to be a bit of a very chaotic lunch . Wouldn't recommend .
