We were out for a night to connect with friends . My husband and I ate at Baton Rouge in Ontario many years ago . We enjoyed it very much so my husband wanted to try it in Halifax. We were not disappointed.Food and service were wonderful. We rarely go out to eat because the food at most places is over priced and not enjoyable. But this is not the case at Baton Rouge. It is pricey but very enjoyable. My husband had the ribs and I the prime rib sandwich. The garlic mashed potatoes are to die for.The only thing I would suggest is that if the server asks if you would like to add things to your order , like mushrooms and onions or load up your mash potatoes , make sure you ask if it cost extra. We had a few added cost to our bill that we were not expecting. All in all a nice place to go out for dinner.
Had the ribs and loaded baked potato. Ribs were everything I wanted, tender, juicy and not too spicy. Presentation was very nice as well. Kitchen staff should be congratulated for supplying wonderful food. Job well done. Service was excellent as well. We will be back. Thank you!
Good food and great service. This is a great spot for a business lunch or dinner and the quality is always spot on.
My wife and I went for her Birthday the atmosphere was great, food was great , server was awesome . My wife had the steak with goat cheese my wife ask for medium well server suggested medium great suggestion she so enjoyed it . Myself I had the rib/chicken combo which was fantastic so enjoyed the fall off the bone ribs and needless to say the beer was nice and cold ,overall a great experience will return again . The birthday desert they provide her with was awesome as well
Our waitress was great and knowledgeable about the menu. We had 3 children with us and they were very patient and brought out food quickly. Portions were enormous and delicious
Excellent Dinner and Table Service were all exceptional
Everything was perfectly. Food was suprisengly good. Definitely we will go here more often.
Excellent meal. Beef filet done perfectly. Back ribs delicious. Veges done perfectly.
Only problem occurred when we ordered Monte Cristos with our cookie dessert. The coffees were warm. Luke warm. Usually special coffees are hot and filled to the brim with coofee and then whipped cream towering above the glass. These coffees' whipped cream did not eeach the brim of the glass.
The server was at our table too quickly, too often. For example, we were escorted to our table and were just removing our coats, and our server was there asking us questions. It was a Friday evening, this was a supposed to be a relaxed dining experience but he was serving us how we would like to be served at lunch when time is an issue (if a working lunch).
The decor is outdated. Red vinyl padded booths are not fine dining.
Our server Mitch was awesome...gave us some great recommendations, we will be back soon!!
Great food with huge portions at a good price! However, did not like the Valentine's Day set-up. We were placed at a table in the middle of a room and it was very open. We were also seated very close to the people on either side of us. Just needed a little more personal space, but other than that it was great. I'd definitely recommend!!
Everything was good, food and service and staff were very friendly
Although I have been to Baton Rouge Halifax before, had this been my first time I would not be back. Our server while ok, I found inattentive to refills and taking our order. When we asked for a second spoon, it was as though an argument was chosen as there were already two spoons on the table. We wanted to share a dessert and it came with one, as did the tea we ordered and we wanted another to eat with.
The atmosphere was quite distracting - there was a large party upstairs. We were placed to eat in the mezzanine, when there would have been ample space to place our table on the quiet side of the dinning room. The group was loud, and some of the language used was not appropriate for other diners to want to hear.
Myself, my Mom and my Husband had the ribs. The last view visits during dinner service, the ribs have not been hot, they have been barely warm.
We have gone several times for the Friday lunch ribs and they are always fantastic! It is beyond me why there is a problem with dinner service.
My Dad had Salmon and that was great.
I’d love to see them step up their game with the ribs.
The noise level was unusually loud, due to a table of disrespectful loud, cursing men behind us. They seemed to be under the impression the louder they were, and the more they used profanity the funnier they were. Not so!
Our first visit to Baton Rouge on Friday 26 January 2018 was highly enjoyable from the beginning to the end. We were warmly welcomed to our reserved table and Mitch, our waiter, was exceptional; he provided recommendations for the ribs and made sure we would become regular patrons. The food was very tasty and was served in a prompt fashion. The staff were all attentive. We were offered a dessert but could not eat it because the main course was so filling but it was a lovely gesture.
Heather Stephens and David Lacey
We love going here for Friday ribs. Excellent deal, great beers (local and other!). All the other food I've had there is good too!. Staff are super friendly!
Annual staff party
Food was average
Service was very low key
Even though we were a party of twelve
Did not even offer anything special or go out
If their way to make it a special experience
It was a Sunday night and the restaurant was empty
Will definitely choose somewhere else next time
The best ribs we've ever had. Good wine choices and fabulous cheesecake. Nice quiet atmosphere for dining with friends. Definitely will return.
I proposed to my girlfriend. Waiter played it perfect, my gf had no idea.. appetizers and main dish was superb. Super friendly staff. Also the dessert was awesome and loved the music.
Wanted a good steak place for a back to college dinner out -- Baton Rouge was the perfect fit -- good prices, not stuffy but not too casual, attentive friendly server, delicious food. Thx
The food was absolutely outstanding, It was not only New Years Eve but our 25th wedding anniversary! The staff was excellent the atmosphere was great! Thoroughly enjoyed our night!!!
Spent NYE here for dinner and it was amazing all around.
Delicious food, great service, and convenient downtown location. Win-Win-Win
We always enjoy the food at the Baton Rouge Halifax. The service and the food on our last visit were excellent. We will visit again soon !
We were there for New Year’s Eve and as usual it was awesome. Especially Marie, Madison and Shannon. Thanks for everything. Worth the trip from Newfoundland. 😃
The BR Cookie was amazing! The steak was tender and juicy and the chipotle chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries were melt in your mouth delicious!
Nice lunch for New Years , not very busy at the time which made the atmosphere great for conversation but it was very cold in the restaurant
Enjoyed great service and food...would like to see more local beer choices on the menu..nice atmosphere
Found that we were a bit rushed but all and all was good for our first time
A quiet was greatly enjoyed by all. All of our meals were very good and well presented.
Wife's food tasted mouldy, my and my daughters sides were cold. Not impressed for a $285 dinner. Won't be back.
This was our first visit to Baton Rouge even though it has been in the area for almost ten years
We have a couple of other restaurants we generally go to for a night out but this will be our new favorite! Everything was superb!
The service was excellent and fast, waitress was fun and super nice! The food excellent and hot. It was overall an excellent experience all ways around.
We come often when in the city and always brag to our friends how good the food is. The staff are always fun and friendly. We had a great night out with our friends who we brought there for their first time.
Thanks to you all.
Meilleur resto d’Halifax, meilleur service en français avec Mitch, meilleure ambiance ! Tout est parfait dans ce restaurant !
I was there with a group of six for our annual Xmas get together. We used to go to the Keg but it has gotten so expensive we decided to try Baton Rouge. Everyone loved the place, the food and the prices were reasonable. The only complaint was it was noisy because it was a full house. Not much you can about that. We will likely go back again next year for our get together! And I may trade another outing I have at the Fireside for Baton Rouge as well!
Great experience we will return! Excellent service,
Great food, service. All round great time. We'll be back.....again
We would definitely go back again. The place was packed with groups celebrating Christmas. Understandably our server was very busy, resulted in forgetting drinks and never received Caesar salad with main. Not the end of the world but did take away from our overall experience
Service was outstanding but the food need work. It was for my 50th anniversary and my first time their. I will not choose the special next time but something from the menu. We had a great time. Thanks
Cozy spot, the booth tables are the best. Can be a bit loud with the bar in the middle and the blender going during your meal. Drinks were tasty, food was delicious, wait staff were friendly and helpful, but it was a bit slow since it was Saturday night. Definietly not a budget dining option! Casual dress was surprisingly prevalent considering the prices. Not an extensive menu, primarily steak, ribs, chicken or seafood, with some apps and salads.
