About Bathtub Gin
Gin was the predominant drink in the USA during the prohibition-era 1920's and many variations were created. "Bathtub gin" was developed in response to the poor-quality of alcohol that was available at the time; because the 18th amendment specifically prohibited the sale or manufacture of distilled alcohol, producers of gin were forced to use denatured alcohol. By mixing it with other flavorings, such as juniper berries, and allowing the mixture to steep in a tub for several hours or even days, the gin became more drinkable. Producers of "bathtub gin" encouraged bartenders at hidden bars to create their own recipes for cocktails.
Still today, straight gin is not usually served on its own, since it tends to be extremely dry. Gin is often mixed with tonic water, vermouth or fruit juices to make it more palatable.
Upholding tradition, we mix our gin and other spirits with the finest and freshest fruits, juices, syrups and infusions in cocktails inspired by original recipes.

Bathtub Gin Ratings and Reviews
The atmosphere and cocktails at BathTub Gin were both great, however, I was very disappointed by the service. Our party had a reservation for 9:45pm but we did not sit down at our table until 10:25pm because we were waiting for service. First, we waited in a line outside the venue while the bouncer argued with the party in front of us because they were late for their reservation. Then, we waited inside the venue for an additional 15 minutes just waiting to be acknowledged by the hostess. All in all, when we sat down to the table, it was 10:25. At that point, the hostess informed us that they had another party coming and need our table at 11:00pm and so they would try to find us a another table to move to at that time. The staff was unable to find another table for us, so we only had the table from 10:25 until 11pm, even though we had a reservation and complained to management. The cocktails were delicious but overall, this was a very disappointing experience. I would not go back.
Went for my birthday celebration in New York and since I am now 64 years old was flattered to be asked for ID! The venue came recommended from a few people. There is a limited menu but would highly recommend the Kobe Beef on Toast.
Extensive gin based cocktail menu, my favourite was The corset
Loved this place! The speakeasy setting is fun to introduce to people, the service is good and our waitress knew all the cocktails and made great recommendations fir our group of four. We didn't try any food but we all enjoyed our gin cocktails. Personally I think the cocktails are too busy- there are so many ingredients, it's hard to know what the flavor profile is without asking. They're expensive too, but they're still enjoyable - would go back.
Bathtub Gin is one of my favorite places in NYC. Whenever I have someone visit, I bring them to the show on Tuesday nights. You can make a reservation, but usually have to do so about a month in advance. The performers are phenomenal! The cocktails are also delicious. The atmosphere is great. It is my favorite speakeasy in NYC.
The ambiance is great and the staff were all friendly...including the bouncer. I had made a reservation in advance which was necessary. There was a 2 hour time limit on the table which was more than enough time considering the crowd. The crafted drinks were all unique and tasty. Having gone to bartending school and knowing many of the flavors used I was able to imagine how the drink would taste. Someone who does not have any idea of the exotic flavors (like cardamom or various oils used) may not know what they are in for and may need some help choosing. Overall a very fun experience although pricey.
TERRIBLE how they operate this joint. I've lived in NY for 6 years and have never experienced this kind of amateur service. If you're going here cause its a speakeasy and you want a cool vibe and great authentic service GO TO ANY OF THE OTHER Speakeasy's nyc offers like, B flat, Raines Law Room, The Back Room, PDT, Blind Barber...the list is endless. For starters Bath Tub Gin doesn't even try to make it a cool prohibition vibe walking through the coffee shop, the bouncer standing there is clearly letting you into the bar area... not a cool front. Then they SQUEEZE you into a tiny table if you're a party of 3. On top of that they REMIND multiple times and at inappropriate times you only have the table for 2 hours. I could go on and on how terrible this experience was but quite frankly they aren't worth my time. Try one of the other places, TRUST ME!!
We had a reservation for Saturday night. Hostess was extremely rude, stressed to us we only had our table from 8-10pm at least 5 times. Yet they wouldn't seat us since our whole party wasn't there right at 8pm. Felt like we were getting kicked out before we even sat down. Table was too small for 7 people even though we expected 8. Not enough chairs available so nothing they could do. Even after chairs became open, they didn't accommodate us. When we were ready for the check, again the hostess unnecessarily reminded us we had to be out by 10. Yeah we got it! Still finishing my drink at 9:59 and they had the next party standing over our table. We spent a lot of money there and to be treated that way was unacceptable. I hesitated to say anything at the time because our Waitress Danielle was great, food and drinks were also good. I just don't understand constant reminders and rushing us out when we were well within the time frame. I won't be going back.
Enjoyed the drinks and food. I do not appreciate getting told to leave after an hour and a half (and $200 spent) in order to open up my seat for the next reservation. There were 8 tables available when we were told that we should start making our way to the door. Would probably have spent more time and money otherwise.
I went here for my birthday with 2 friends and we had a blast. Unfortunately we got booted from our table after 2 hours but that's because they're crazy booked, especially on sundays. Fortunately we did get to move to the bar to enjoy the burlesque preformances, which were to die for! The ladies did an amazing job and were really fun and beautiful. They're interactive with the guests and the bar service was stellar as well. Really enjoyed my visit to celebrate my 23rd birthday!
I brought my brother here for brunch and it did not disappoint. Being huge fans of French Toast, we both ordered it and split a side of bacon and sausage. The French Toast really hit the spot and went great with the Irish Coffee I ordered. My brother ordered one of the gin-crafted drinks and is looking forward to recommending it to his friends. I want to know where they get their bacon from because it was delicious. The waitress was very engaging and the decor is beautiful. I'm looking forward to coming back for a drink with some friends during their Tuesday night burlesque show. Very excited to book my next outing there.
We thoroughly enjoyed our two visits here whilst in NYC. The first time we came across this amazing bar after taking an afternoon stroll down the High Line we enjoyed many of their amazing gin cocktails! Then we booked a table for the next night to enjoy the food on offer and a live jazz performance.
Amazing atmosphere, cocktails and food! Would 110% recommend.
I’ve been here every night of the week. I’ve been here with colleagues, my mother, my girlfriends, my s/o - I take everyone. I’ve been here at the weekend and by myself. Gin is my poison and the vibe in here is excellent. Sunday brunch is fun, you’re not going for the food although you might as well get the s’mores. The compere has been phenomenal every time I’ve seen a show. Please don’t forget to tip generously, also don’t touch and do enjoy yourself. Bathtub Gin for the win.
