About Bastille Cafe & Bar
Opened in June of 2009 and housed in an historic 1920’s building in Seattle’s Old Ballard neighborhood, Bastille Café & Bar is a bustling homage to a Parisian brasserie. Owners Deming Maclise and James Weimann scoured Paris flea markets and local salvage stores for vintage accessories to create a truly authentic feel. From the white subway tiles, antique mirrors, and Paris Metro clock to the zinc-topped bar and stunning crystal chandelier that takes center stage in the Back Bar; they’ve truly hit the mark. Chef Jason Stoneburner creates French focused cuisine inspired by the abundance of seasonal product found locally---and it doesn’t get any more local than the restaurants 4500-square-foot organic rooftop garden. The wine list is French focused with a smattering of NW wines and the bar offers an extensive collection of absinthe.

Bastille Cafe & Bar Ratings and Reviews
Overall my partner & I very much enjoyed the evening, and the food was wonderful! However, service was unexpectedly poor: our appetizer was completely forgotten, and we were left unattended for long periods. Dessert & second rounds on drinks took an extremely long time to arrive. Staff was apologetic, gave us free dessert, and we were in no hurry, so overall positive experience.
Great experience. Comfortable seating. Our server was very personable and attentive. The environment was very welcoming and classy. Food was creative and delish! Roasted cauliflower and falafel sandwich are great! My water was always full. Loved this Ballard gem!!
First time here (Saturday night) and really enjoyed almost everything. Our table for 4 was great. Our waiter could not have been better. Friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Cauliflower dish and beet salad so yummy. Mussels large. Steelhead perfect. Only disappointment was steak frites. Steak a little tough and frites and sauce overly salty. This from someone that adds salt to everything. Overall I would definitely return and recommend.
the moment we walked in the door we where greeted by a very helpful staff member, we had booked but where early and waiting on 2 of our party. We asked if we could sit in the bar and get a drink first (They where happy to sit us at the table if we wanted) and we did. The bar staff had good knowledge and where helpful and fun. The rest of our group arrived and we moved to the table where once again we had amazing staff. The Service and food is amazing here we will be back.
Hosted an account review with a company who's president lives in Ballard. Second time we've done it here. Last time was with 3 of us, this time we had 5.
Each time, the menu has some very unique, and delicious items on it. For this trip, there were some new items, that were wonderful. Chicken Oysters, with Gnocchi, WOW!
I had the grilled Ahi Tuna, on a delicious bed of something yummy! It was very good, I would have licked my plate clean, if it was socially acceptable.
Cocktails, and beers, we're equally amazing.
Thanks for the great experience.
Bastille has a partial outdoor seating area that they use year round. While it's great in the summer, it's not that great in the winter. When we made reservations I had no idea we'd be sitting in that area. The temps that night got into the low 30s. Even though they have heaters all over the place, it was still cold, and the cheap outdoor wicker chairs don't make it any cozier. We all ate our very expensive meals with our coats on. It doesn't make me feel welcome, nor relaxed and comfortable. We finished as fast as we could to find someplace to warm up. I expected more from a somewhat higher-end restaurant. Maybe offer blankets to patrons and comfier seating.
The waitstaff was very attentive and nice, but at some point should have noticed how cold we were. The food was OK, but again I expected better for the price. I probably won't be going back.
Bastille is my new favorite restaurant in the Seattle area!! We met friends, had a lovely booth, a wonderful waitress (Sarah) and some of the best food and wine ever. We had a lovely time and enjoyed appetizers followed by delicious meal entrees. All four of us agreed that Bastille is a total keeper and we have already planned a return visit. Keep up the great work!
Second time dining at Bastille and again, I’m more than satisfied. The ambiance is amazing and the servers and service is always impeccable. The kimchi polenta I had the first time was so unique and delicious, and the rock fish dish this last time was cooked to perfection—buttery like lobster! Amazing crime brûlée. Will be a life-long patron.
Don't skimp on the portions or anything! We ordered off the restaurant menu and (this is a compliment) was burping all night because I ate sooo much!!! I could not deny myself! The pate - YUM! Beet Salad - YUM! All of it YUM! Mussels and Cassoulet then being forced to eat dessert! Torture, wonderful torture!
We did restaurant week at another place that I do love but left hungry and slightly disappointed that I didn't even get a cookie with the gelato dessert. Bastille does it right!! That's why we love Chef Jason so much! No one out does Bastille & Stoneburner for hospitality. Always fantastic service and generosity. Thank you!
We had a wonderful dinner here, by which I mean we showed up with reservations, were seated right away, and had a server bring us drinks shortly after being seated. Our appetizer was the pork belly, which was delicious even though we thought the poached egg was slightly over cooked. Ordered the half chicken and the steak frites. Both had wonderful flavors and excellent preparation. Our server was cheerful, informative and attentive through out the meal but we never felt pushed or over-served. Solid on all counts, but I did feel it was maybe a little over-priced or perhaps I'm just getting cheap as I get older. That said, I have been disappointed at much pricier places so I left feeling contented and happy. We look forward to our return.
Mixed experience. Plusses: The frites with aioli are addictively good. The roasted cauliflower with tahini, pumpkin seeds and dates was a tasty combination of flavors and textures. Misses: The duck confit was listed as a "Large Plate" dish. The duck leg served was the smallest portion I've ever seen. Two bites and that was it. At $27, way overpriced and disappointing. Shared experience with management of restaurant. If you are hungry, make sure you ask about portion size. Apparently the restaurant appears to be combatting rising costs by downsizing portions.
I love Bastille for its ambiance and wonderfully creative menu. We go for brunch but dinner is even better. I don’t generally like Brussel Sprouts but the way they do them shaved with pork belly bits and a poached egg is to die for. Very accommodating staff too, nice manners.
We were seated by a large group of people who were having a birthday or anniversary event, we received very little service from the waitress our food arrived cold and the entire evening was mediocre. That said, the staff put an awful lot of attention to the large group of people seated next to us and they seem to be having a great time. Which is why I recommend it for large groups. If you're going there for a romantic dinner just the two of you, you might want to try A different restaurant
