Bastien's is one of my favorite dining venues for very special occasions with family and close friends. Always wonderful steaks, yummy appetizers, impeccable service. The price point easy on the pocketbook when one considers the quality of the food, the array of choices and the exceptionally attentive service.
This was the second time my wife and I dined at Bastien's. The first time we had been given a gift card by good friends who thought we would enjoy the experience and we did. Our most recent visit was to celebrate our recent 29th wedding anniversary and we were again very pleased. Love the atmosphere, food and service.
Classic '50's style steak house serving great steaks and specials. Don't find many of these places outside of New York, Vegas, or Chicago anymore.
Best Steak house in Denver! The ambiance is very retro and unique. If you like martini's, the Rat Pack and amazing steak at a reasonable price, then this is your place. I love that it's family-owned and just about everyone who works there is a family member. They also have the best cheesecake!
Great service. Cade is fantastic.
This was my second trip in a month to Bastien’s. The old school atmosphere is great. The food is even better. All of the wait staff were second to none in service and attentiveness without being intrusive.
Good food, good service and good value. Will definitely be back.
A favorite classic. Great cocktails, steak and potatoes, and journey back to the past.
Awesome restaurant! Food, service and ambiance all outstanding.
Very standard American fare - wasn’t bad, but was super over priced. But the dining room was full and all the older customers seemed to be enjoying the trip down memory lane. The decor was worth checking out - looks like something straight out of the ‘70’s
Everything was amazing! Will definitely be coming back soon! Such a nice surprise spot to find off Colfax!
Altho the mid century decor was great, the server great, and serving sizes enormous, the wine list and cocktails need a serious look over. Two out of three cocktails had to be redone or just given up on. A brandy Alexander and Apricot Stone Sour should have been easily handled. The whiskey sour settled for was mediocre at best. The place is fun and retro but would be truly outstanding on all count if the bar side of the menu is improved.
Great place for dates or special occasions only for the ambiance. The food was at best average. I had my partner's sugar steak, which they highly market ownership over. Tasted like a bland bbq blend. The only phenom thing was the lobster-perfectly cooked! Still, don't know if it was worth the $15+ add-on.
Great service. Great beef. Great desserts. Statements as straightforward as Bastien’s approach to dining. Well done!
Has really cool old-school vibe. Dress code is quite casual, felt a bit over dressed in a blazer. Sugar steak was very tasty, would recommend that to a first timer. Has a great list of classic cocktails as well, my sidecar was excellent!!!
Probably not, simply because the reason I had gone into BASTIEN'S was for their fabulous ESCARGOT, but instead of a simple Escargot prepared with garlic butter, they coated the dish in a heavy coat of parmesan or a cheddar cheese! While I am not a Escargot "purist" I had never had them like this and I think it just "hides" the dish, along with the texture and most of the garlic/butter flavor!! The rest of the meal was good, but I found the prices, especially for their steaks to be expensive!
I mentioned that it was my husbands birthday and they had streamers on the table and then brought out a piece of cheesecake with a candle on it for dessert. It was thoughtful and special. We love this restaurant!!!
As usual, Bastien's was great! The sugar steak is amazing.
My son wanted to go here for his 20th birthday (he’s very into retro stuff). I was skeptical because of my precon
Been many times over the years and it never disappoints. Steak was excellent, our server Laura was amusing and wonderful and love be the ambiance. We will keep coming back
We live in Congress Park and have been coming to Bastien's for many years! Always a great experience! The food is always perfect, the service friendly and professional. We'll be back!
Bastien's is such a unique throwback to the '50s steakhouse. Great value for an outstanding variety of steaks and other options. Be sure to order any martini - you'll get a cold steel "glass"! And if you're lucky, you'll get Shasta as your server. She's been there over 20 years and is fantastic!!
Very disappointed with our meal. We went with friends to celebrate my birthday. We had not eaten here for about a year but my husband loves the sugar steak and the beef stroganoff was always my favorite. I make a really good beef stroganoff but theirs was always way better than mine. Key word here is “was”. They now “only” have cavatappi pasta for “all” of their pasta dishes. Cavatappi pasta is the absolute worst pasta to use for beef stroganoff. Strangely the menu does not mention that they use this pasta for their beef stroganoff. So I sent mine back and ate some of my husbands sugar steak. Unfortunately the steak was very grisly. The restaurant is dark, dirty, and in desperate need of a remodel despite the high prices. We had always overlooked that before because we loved the food. It did not turn out to be a good way to celebrate my birthday at all. Sadly we will not be back. Avoid this restaurant and try some of the other great places in the neighborhood
Excellent place! Great ambiance!
While steak houses are popular few can mix the history and ambiance of Bastien's. If wishing to dine within the era of Mad Men right down to the Whiskey Sour and generous steaks, chops, sides and so forth not to be missed. Having endured the ever changing E Colfax Ave it seems Bastien's is enjoying a renaissance. Of note Bastien's is mid-grade concerning pricing i.e. more expensive than the lower-end chains yet cheaper than The Palm, Ruth's Chris and similar. IF you wish to be transported to a different era i.e. 1960's pre-hippie, in search of value and a traditional cocktail, not to be missed.
It’s a very comfortable old-school space, it was lovely to enjoy with my family. Very good steakhouse experience- the sugar steak was definitely an idea I’ll steal, and the grilled caesar was tasty too. Love the idea of delicious sides being included in menu price. Our service was great - the server was perfect and they seemed to be a great team. Definitely will come again
Bastien's Steakhouse is one of Denver's best kept secrets! The location, just west of Colfax and Colorado Blvd., started out as a drive-in theater in the '30's. The unusual octagonal-shaped restaurant was built in the late '50's.
Bastien's remains "old-school", and we love it! About 30 years ago they introduced the "sugar steak"! Bob and I have been recreating this for the last 10 years at home. Basically it is a multi-spice sugar rub that is added to a dry-aged steak before grilling. The sugar in the rub helps caramelize a nice crust on the steak. At Bastien's, you can only order the sugar steak rare or medium-rare. I love this about them.
Tonight we both tried different types of steaks. I had the 20 oz bone-in ribeye with Worcestershire mushrooms, while Bob had an 8 oz gorgonzola top sirloin. We both enjoyed our steaks. Both of our salads we're great! Bob had the wedge for an additional fee, while I had the traditional house salad. Bob ordered the double-baked potato. I tried their specialty mashed potato which came with cabbage and bacon bits. I gave the carbs to Bob, and he decided he still preferred the double-baked potato. Bob said the complimentary bread was pretty good, as well.
My cocktail was served in a very petite glass, but hit the spot.
Our waitress Jeannine was fun and sassy. Did was delivered very quickly, despite it being busy.
The ambiance was retro-fabulous! It was a packed house and everyone seemed to be in good spirits.
Sometimes you just need a really good steak, and want to save a little money compared to the more modern steakhouses.
We made reservations through OpenTable, and I highly recommend it.
Tonight, Bastien's participated in Dining Out for Life. 25% of the proceeds went to a great cause! For an additional $25 donation, donations were matched my corporate sponsor.
Steak cooked to perfection, absolutely delicious. Always a great experience that keeps us coming back.
Bastien's is marvelous, especially if you're a fan of Mid-century modern architecture. The steaks are perfect, and the service (which used to be kind of slow) was very good the last time we were there. We'll be back soon.
Been coming here for many years (decades). sorry to say that I've probably changed/aged more than Bastien's in that time! This is that type of classic "locals" place that has stood the test-of-time and at the same time, kept to what made them successful. Ignore the exterior which might not indicate - to first timers - how great it is inside. Fabulous steaks, solid service and very fair price points. Other steak houses might be good for impressing or spending an expense account but if it's a great steak you want, go no further.
Great steak and old school ambiance
Our waiter was very kind. He took good care of us!!
Truly such a treat! From the drinks to the food, it was all so good. The sugar steak is a must.
The night we were there, the restaurant was so loud that people who wanted to talk were literally screaming at the top of their lungs to be heard. For a small restaurant and such an expensive meal, it was just insane. We had great food, amazing service, a wonderful meal, and my ears are STILL ringing.
Wonderful food and great atmosphere but service could definitely use improvement. Waitress was curt, didn’t bother to fill our drinks or ask how things were unless we stopped her.
My first experience with having the sugar steak, cooked to perfection and so very tasty. I will be back next time I'm in town!
Consistently delicious food and great service. Make a reservation as the place is always packed.
The food was great and the service top notch. Will definitely come here again.
As usual, serve vice was great. Wait person was attentive and friendly. The gentleman host was as usual, great!
