Basta Pasta - Timonium Ratings and Reviews
Wonderful selections on the menu. All of the food was delicious and the portions were large. We took enough home for another complete dinner. Service was excellent. The small rooms help to make the restaurant more cozy and less noisy. We were not rushed at all.
The food was good, but super heavy. Leftovers were pretty greasy. More expensive than $$ more like $$$. Good service, but the place was kinda run down. The words on the the menus were fading, my kids weren't really interested in the menu coloring options. Demographic was in the upper 50s. I'd say, I wouldn't go back.
My only problem is when we first were seated they tried to sit 7 people at a 5 foot or smaller round table. I’m not sure why because the restaurant wasn’t busy at all. It was 4:30 and we had a reservation. It was taken care of but it was an awkward moment. I’m thinking it had to do with the servers.
Both my wife and I had the Blue Crab Ravioli with Grilled Shrimp and Pomodoro Sauce special. We thought it was delicious and would order it again. Also, the portion size was reasonable so (unlike at many Italian restaurants) we did not need to immediately divide the portions in half and take half home. The Creme Brulee caramelized sugar crust had a burnt flavor but was otherwise excellent. The Chocolate Canoli was very good. Service was pleasant and efficient. We have eaten here many times and have always had a good experience so we will be back!
Outstanding crab cake platter special on Tuesday nights. We went to celebrate a birthday and were not disappointed. Two of us ordered the crab cake platter (fantastic) and two ordered linguine with clam sauce All came with endless salad and the crab cake platter had a side. We had a child with us and she loved the spaghetti! The birthday celebration included a beautiful piece of cheesecake that was shared (it was really big) and really delicious!!!
Went early on Tuesday (Crab\cake night) and were seated in a room that we had virtually to ourselves! Easy for conversation. Crabcakes were excellent, as always. Two member of the party got chicken dishes that they love (Francese and Marsala)... and they were excellent as well.
We had spoken to Stephan, the manager, last time about how we liked separate checks (1 for each couple) and they cheerfully accommodated us.
Relaxing atmosphere...excellent food.... attentive and excellent service.
Mixed dinner. Clams linguini was just excellent. Eggplant parm was horrible - very thick, hardly cooked and little cheese.. Wrong brand of wine was served without comment that original order was out of stock. Very back room was very noisy with 3 parties of 8 or more. Service was very good
Basta pasta is very consistent. Our meal was wonderful and our waitress was perfect. My only complaint was that we were seated in a room in the back of the restaurant with almost NO air conditioning!! It's difficult to think about eating a hot meal while sweating in a rather warm room. I like Basta Pasta a lot and will return, but will specify where I'd like to sit next time!!
We had the 2 crab cake special. We began with a fresh, crisp salad. Sharon, our server, was attentive, checking on us without being obtrusive. The crab cakes were also delicious, full of lump crab meat. Our sides were broccoli (husband) and capellini (me). Both were very good. Breadsticks were hot! Plus we have crab cakes for tomorrow, since we only ate one each tonight. Food delicious, service excellent, price is good.
This meal was a disappointment. Eating gluten free is a must for one of us and knowing that the usually delicious gluten free crab cakes have to be ordered ahead of time, this was done. What a disappointment. There was alot of filler (never happened before), and they had no flavor (never happened before). On the positive side. The waitress , Sondra, was attentive and refilled our salad bowl quickly and efficiently. She checked back but we never told her about the crab cakes as they were ordered ahead of time and nothing could have been done to rectify this. We had eaten there and gotten crab cakes just 2 weeks before and they were delicious. Can only guess there was someone different in the kitchen doing the prep. We would definitely recommend this restaurant hoping that this was the aberration not the new norm.
