Food was excellent, service was lacking. Had to stop our server each time we needed something. He checked back after the food was delivered, then seemed to stop caring about us unless we stopped him.
The noise level was too loud and the food was mediocre.
Our server was friendly and efficient. The food was not as good as we would have expected.
Love! Went with a friend for dinner and drinks. Such a great atmosphere. Food and drinks, AMAZING! Good happy hour specials as well.
Went for our anniversary and with my reservation I had asked that they wished my wife a happy anniversary. Did not happen. My wife’s food was brought to the table about 10 minutes before mine without an explanation until the next time our waitress came by and said that my food was too burnt to serve and they are making another one (which I appreciated that they remade it) however we were one of about four tables there. Not very busy is my point. So I find it weird that my food was burnt. Once my food was delivered it was good. My wife said her pasta dish was a bit salty (I didn’t think it was when I tried it).
This place has great potential. Ambiance is great but the service was a lacking.
I don’t blame anyone for this but if this were my restaurant I would have mad e a monetary adjustment to my bill or a free dessert. I’m not unhappy that didn’t happen just not how I personally would have handled it.
I stick to my 2 star review.
Reminds me of the old rathskellars when I was doing a little drinking in college. A good place for young people to hang out. We enjoyed the ambiance and food. Would go there again.
Good fo visiting coworkers
Had a great atmosphere. Employees were knowledgeable. Awesome food.
This was great. The only drawback was that the food came out at different times, but we had a large party and with wood fired pizza, it is probably impossible to feed everyone at the same time. We LOVED it and the restaurant was very accommodating to our needs.
Really good food and phenomenal atmosphere, only negative thing to say was that the up charge for shrimp in pasta was $5 and we both only received three shrimp. To be fair the shrimp were excellent, but $5 should buy you more than 3. Overall 4/5
Horrible service, flavorless food, one of us didn't even get our food at all. Salt was dumped on the salad making it inedible and the mussels were so spicy that they could not be eaten..
Server did not seem knowledgeable about specific entrees. Limited menu
Cozy date night with a set of friends. Server was very knowledgeable and never rushed us.
Basso is the best!!!!
Took my wife out for our 20th wedding anniversary and wanted to take her somewhere nice!
Good experience. It does get loud so don’t expect ambiance. Staff friendly.
Food is ok. Not a bad place, if you’re prepared for a bar-like atmosphere
First time visit- food was very good. Waitress was ok did not split our bill she did when we asked. It took us a while to get drinks. Every time they picked up dishes they took my fork!I had to ask for a fork 3 Times. Otherwise liked the venue. It was very busy at the restaurant that night. I will come back.
The menu was limited. The food was average to poor.
Great happy hour!
I am a frequent visitor to Basso. I always recommend this restaurant and take my friends for their birthday and often on date night!
Love this restaurant in the lower level of the Cheshire Inn. You owe it to yourself not to miss the roasted brussel sprouts. The cauliflower was delish. My favorite disk is the pasta ala vodka. My companions like the lamb rissoto.
We visited Basso for the first time on a busy Saturday evening. When the four of us arrived, our table was ready right away. Our server, Jordan, was friendly and knowledgeable. She suggested the perfect glass of wine to enjoy with my main course.
Everything we ate, appetizers, salad, pasta and dessert, and drank was wonderful. I highly recommend the fritto misto, chopped salad and tortiglione ‘alla vodka’.
Basso is a highly energetic space, so it can be loud, but we were still able to chat and enjoy our evening.
Food we excellent and was a great ambiance in the restaurant.
It was our first visit and we will certainly go back. It was just an overall fun atmosphere with a rustic vibe and just enough sports tv entertainment, great beer selection, great cocktails, friendly service, great wood-fired pizza. Looking forward to adding this venue to our list of local fun spots!
(This, by no means is a deal breaker for me and I'm not a big wine person to begin with, so please take this part of the review with a grain of salt - we sampled a few cabs but none really hit our taste buds just right. Almost seemed to be lacking that pungent wow factor - too watery or something?)
Poor service. Will not return.
The only issue was Parking. The lot is very small, and it was full.
We showed up 10 minutes before reservation and promptly seated. Our waitress, Katie, got our orders and memorized our names. I like the personal touch she put forth. The only downside to the experience is that my wife received her entree about 25 minutes before mine made it to the table. We were told the first one was not good so they prepared another one. Since we were in no hurry, this jist gave us more time to enjoy each others company. The prices are a little high but to bad for the quality, which was great. If we go again, I will suggest sharing dishes. I liked that it is in a basement because it ia secluded and sets a good mood for any occasion.
Love this place. Great food every time I go. Don't miss the brussel sprouts.
My roommate and I spent the night at the Cheshire next door and had dinner at Basso. We’ve got to say, vacationing here was a great choice for spring break. Basso really made our night a great one with amazing food and a wonderful atmosphere. Our waiter was a gentleman, as well. All around, we loved this place!
Way too loud!! It was like a bar not a restaurant like I was expecting
While the ambiance was very good, and our waiter excellent in knowledge and personality, the food was a disappointment. The fries that came with one meal were soggy and two other meals, both of which were pasta, were inedible. Extremely “starchy in taste”, as if not rinsed and swimming in oil. While my party may come back for drinks and conversation eventually, I doubt whether we will sample the food again.
They didn’t make me feel bad because my steak was too rare they swooped it right up and brought me another to my liking with no judgement.
Fast, Friendly Service and Food Good. Small menu was only downside.
Great Food. Great place. The temperature is a little warm due to the gas lighting.
My wife and I enjoyed the evening. We had a date night and decided to have quiet dinner before the movie. The server was great. The food was delicious . Parking is a little rough. Basso was pretty busy and the Inn was also busy that night. I understand parking is hit or miss. Valet parking is an option.
I have been to Basso many time. The bar is large and good for drinks and eating. The two of us split three appetizers: brussel sprouts with pancetta, roasted cauliflower, fried meatballs. It was more than enough food.
The biggest challenge was that we had a hard time hearing. It is a lot of people in a small space, and the music was very loud. It won't stop us from going back. I just thought folks might want to know.
The server forgot to put our appetizer order in. Pizza was so-so. Salad was very good.
Excellent meal and service! I had the Tortiglione alla Vodka and Fire Roasted Brussel Sprouts. Both were very flavorful and cooked to perfection.
