Love this place. Great food every time I go. Don't miss the brussel sprouts.
My roommate and I spent the night at the Cheshire next door and had dinner at Basso. We’ve got to say, vacationing here was a great choice for spring break. Basso really made our night a great one with amazing food and a wonderful atmosphere. Our waiter was a gentleman, as well. All around, we loved this place!
Way too loud!! It was like a bar not a restaurant like I was expecting
While the ambiance was very good, and our waiter excellent in knowledge and personality, the food was a disappointment. The fries that came with one meal were soggy and two other meals, both of which were pasta, were inedible. Extremely “starchy in taste”, as if not rinsed and swimming in oil. While my party may come back for drinks and conversation eventually, I doubt whether we will sample the food again.
They didn’t make me feel bad because my steak was too rare they swooped it right up and brought me another to my liking with no judgement.
Fast, Friendly Service and Food Good. Small menu was only downside.
Great Food. Great place. The temperature is a little warm due to the gas lighting.
My wife and I enjoyed the evening. We had a date night and decided to have quiet dinner before the movie. The server was great. The food was delicious . Parking is a little rough. Basso was pretty busy and the Inn was also busy that night. I understand parking is hit or miss. Valet parking is an option.
I have been to Basso many time. The bar is large and good for drinks and eating. The two of us split three appetizers: brussel sprouts with pancetta, roasted cauliflower, fried meatballs. It was more than enough food.
The biggest challenge was that we had a hard time hearing. It is a lot of people in a small space, and the music was very loud. It won't stop us from going back. I just thought folks might want to know.
The server forgot to put our appetizer order in. Pizza was so-so. Salad was very good.
Excellent meal and service! I had the Tortiglione alla Vodka and Fire Roasted Brussel Sprouts. Both were very flavorful and cooked to perfection.
It was Friday night and Basso was so crowded the parking lot was full. The hostess worked to seat us early. The waiter, Justin, greeted us with a bright smile. The shishito peppers were excellent, the beer was cold, and the pizza was perfect. But it was just too noisy to be comfortable. We won't be back.
Had a reservation for 7:15, but we were running late. I called to let them know and the woman I spoke with was very nice and moved our reservation back to 7:30. We were promptly seated upon arrival. Our server, Justin, was fabulous along with the food and drinks I cannot wait to visit again!
Food was adequate. Signature pasta dish was less than stellar. Ambiance was fine.
The food is fantastic, but the service was the worst I’ve ever had. So bad, that I will never return, despite the great meal.
Went with a large group for New Year's Eve. Sat right by the large wood burning fireplace and kitchen, so it was nice and warm despite the bitter cold outside. The ambiance feels like you're descending into a hip speakeasy. Menu isn't extensive, but everyone ate different meals and were happy with their selections. Free valet parking was an extra plus because of the cold.
Great fun place, but noisy! Great date place, casual and relaxing too
Always great personable service. Delicious food and a beautiful woody atmosphere.
Service was great. Always love the food and the value is good
Our server, Justin was great! The hostess didn’t see our reservation at first. We waited while she looked for it and then said “my bad”, I found it! That was a turn off to me. Thank goodness we had Justin!
Vibrant and energetic. All the dishes we tried were great, but the pizza I thought was only mediocre/ok. Wait-staff were great!
Food was good. Service was good. Noise level was 90+ decibels (I had an app for that LOL). Too loud for conversation. The basement bisto/pub has so many hard surfaces that the sound just amplifies. Too bad. Won't be going back.
Basso has a limited menu but some nice offerings and everything we have had there is good! Nice drink selection and great atmosphere!
We have always enjoyed Basso, but on Saturday evening our food arrived about 10 minutes later than the other couple with whom we were dining. We ordered a burger and it was pretty over cooked.
The service was very well & the staf was nice &
Our waitress Cat makes the experience so great.
The food is terrific and it’s a comfortable place for us to have a delicious, easy and affordable
dinner. Great spur of the moment when cooking
Is too much of an ordeal.
Always love the food but, the service is a bit chaotic and it can be extremely loud. I recommend sitting towards the front of the restaurant and asking for ‘the donald’ pizza... SO GOOD.
Great Place. Great food. Excellent service
Outstanding food and service. The cocktails were excellent.
Food was outstanding, the selections are somewhat limited, but everything we ordered was excellently prepared and visually pleasing. The service was prompt and the server very friendly and helpful. the atmosphere was very energetic, but at the same time, cozy enough to enjoy a conversation with the accompanying guests. While it seemed a little loud to me (old age), Basso is definitely a "people watching" place as it has a great bar scene. I've been there for lunches, happy hours and dinners and have never been disappointed. It is a St. Louis "GEM."
The food was not how we remembered. It was not as good. Our server was very slow and we were constantly lookin for her.......and the resteraunt was not full. Very disappointed!!
Very nice room and bar. Great atmosphere but service was a little unfriendly and food has declined since the last time we visited. Good for a drink and a pizza but the pasta and the rest needs improvement.
A bit difficult to find but well worth the effort. The setting was open and trendy. The Pasta with Vodka sauce was the BEST I have ever had and the so were the Fried Meatballs. The food quality was some of the best I have had anywhere even in a town known for Italian and the "Hill" where I usually go. So glad I found this spot!
Thanks Open Table!
Two people the only newly seated at 8 pm on Sunday ....not busy....should not have to wait nearly 15 mins for two cocktails. Believe it!!! (from the time order taken to delivery). Pasta dishes very good. Shishito peppers good.
The food and drinks were good but the service was extremely slow.
Brussels sprouts very good, pasta and pizza also very good
Always have enjoyed Basso for its decor and fantastic small plate foods.
Under ground restaurant with very rustic but modern decor. Full bar with creative cocktails as well as a large draft beer selection. Our server was very friendly and helpful. Have already recommended to friends!
Overall great place for some Italian food. Really enjoyed the Pizza and beer selection. We tried the Garlic knots but neither of us really cared for them. I would definitely go again for the atmosphere and the pizza!
