Basso Ratings and Reviews
While the ambiance was very good, and our waiter excellent in knowledge and personality, the food was a disappointment. The fries that came with one meal were soggy and two other meals, both of which were pasta, were inedible. Extremely “starchy in taste”, as if not rinsed and swimming in oil. While my party may come back for drinks and conversation eventually, I doubt whether we will sample the food again.
My wife and I enjoyed the evening. We had a date night and decided to have quiet dinner before the movie. The server was great. The food was delicious . Parking is a little rough. Basso was pretty busy and the Inn was also busy that night. I understand parking is hit or miss. Valet parking is an option.
I have been to Basso many time. The bar is large and good for drinks and eating. The two of us split three appetizers: brussel sprouts with pancetta, roasted cauliflower, fried meatballs. It was more than enough food.
The biggest challenge was that we had a hard time hearing. It is a lot of people in a small space, and the music was very loud. It won't stop us from going back. I just thought folks might want to know.
It was Friday night and Basso was so crowded the parking lot was full. The hostess worked to seat us early. The waiter, Justin, greeted us with a bright smile. The shishito peppers were excellent, the beer was cold, and the pizza was perfect. But it was just too noisy to be comfortable. We won't be back.
Had a reservation for 7:15, but we were running late. I called to let them know and the woman I spoke with was very nice and moved our reservation back to 7:30. We were promptly seated upon arrival. Our server, Justin, was fabulous along with the food and drinks I cannot wait to visit again!
Went with a large group for New Year's Eve. Sat right by the large wood burning fireplace and kitchen, so it was nice and warm despite the bitter cold outside. The ambiance feels like you're descending into a hip speakeasy. Menu isn't extensive, but everyone ate different meals and were happy with their selections. Free valet parking was an extra plus because of the cold.
Food was outstanding, the selections are somewhat limited, but everything we ordered was excellently prepared and visually pleasing. The service was prompt and the server very friendly and helpful. the atmosphere was very energetic, but at the same time, cozy enough to enjoy a conversation with the accompanying guests. While it seemed a little loud to me (old age), Basso is definitely a "people watching" place as it has a great bar scene. I've been there for lunches, happy hours and dinners and have never been disappointed. It is a St. Louis "GEM."
A bit difficult to find but well worth the effort. The setting was open and trendy. The Pasta with Vodka sauce was the BEST I have ever had and the so were the Fried Meatballs. The food quality was some of the best I have had anywhere even in a town known for Italian and the "Hill" where I usually go. So glad I found this spot!
