Bask restaurant welcomes from Monday to Saturday, lunch (Monday through Friday) and dinner (Monday through Saturday). We specialize in dishes passed down from authentic chefs of the Basque country and feature a happy hour of daily prepared pinxtos spread across our bar. The drink menu offers carefully chosen wines from France and Spain, small production domestic selections, along with house made red and white sangria. We invite you to come pair your choice of wine or sangria with any of our specialties - Squid cooked in it"s own ink, Roasted Lamb Shanks, Paella Royale, Grilled Cod Filet, or the Basque Burger - among many others. But, save room for dessert; the Euskal Pastela (Basque Cake) is not to be missed.

We were not greeted upon arrival, my friend and I even wondered if we entered thru the wrong door. I had to go toward the kitchen to get acknowledged by a gruff waitress that shooed me away as if she had already told me our table was being set up. Waters came promptly. But the food lacked authenticity. Either too salty (gambas and patats) or too bland (day old tortilla española). The gambas with mussels were totally off, as if they added and orange or grapefruit juice to the sauce, where traditionally it’s just olive oil and slow cooked garlic. Unfortunately, overall I was underwhelmed with my experience.
I made a reservation through OpenTable for 7:45pm on a Friday night, and when we got there the hostess explained that there would be at least an hour wait. I'm not sure where the disconnect was between the restaurant and OpenTable, but it certainly was not a good experience. I've heard good things about this restaurant but they need to figure out how to make sure reservations can be honored.
Seems like they have changed the owner and chef. Some of the items we ordered didn’t taste very well. They are incredibly understaffed for a Friday night, we had to walk to the waiter several times asking for our check, will probably not go back any time soon.
Was excited to try Bask as we love Basque cuisine. We were somewhat disappointed. The Boquerones were amazing. Absolutely delicious. However, the Gambas were overcooked that we had to send the dish back. The other tapas were okay but nothing extraordinary. Service was terrible. We had to ask for bread and clean plates 3 times. The waiter and waitresses didn't regularly checked in.
Great tapas, everything is wonderful for sharing. Have been there twice to celebrate birthdays and each time it was enjoyable. Service was excellent, they check on you often enough but not intrusive. Tapas are great for sharing and everything was delicious.
This restaurant could have been in Europe, bistro feel, all different types of people. The person who greeted me was very nice and energetic, kept telling me that he would be available to get me whatever I needed. Unfortunately, he seemed to never be around when we needed him, and when we asked other people to get something for us they either brought the wrong thing (in one place regular bread when we asked for gluten free!) or never came back. The food we had was from bland to amazing, so it was hard to give it a star. The baby eels, scrumptious ! We ordered the fois gras twice, the first time it was seared perfectly, the second time it wasn't and wasn't cleaned properly. The tuna tartare was completely tasteless. The gluten free bread when it finally came was warm and delicious with the baby eels. The ambiance was lively, the place was packed! All the employees seemed very happy so that's always good. The prices were a bit high for the inconsistency of preparations. That first round of foie gras and the baby eels were so good I would go back just for that!
3 New Yorkers on the way to SFO airport and stopped in town/city to eat something other than Mexican.
Reservations were greeted by the Husband owner who seated us. Waiter then took over and made every effort to make us comfortable. Sangria was nice not very high in alcohol so enjoy the fruity wine. Small plates were very good finished by a Paella. The Chef (wife) from Spain yes makes it authentic. Enjoy!!!!
Ari was the best server I have encountered in SF in a long time. He was attentive, kind and patient. He made it clear we were in good hands. He made the meal fun and relaxing. The food was awesome in its own right and the service was a cherry on top. We had the gambas, the mushrooms and the peppers with cod, we also had the flourless chocolate cake and the creme brûlée. Everything was excellent although the creme brûlée was a bit gummy (only gripe) Ari was very helpful with wine recommendations and I ate like a Spaniard. I would absolutely go back again if I wanted to impress some friends.
Small tapas portions so variety is easy for sharing. Ordered few, my favorites were stuffed paprika, and goat cheese. Sea food in general was pretty good. Sangrias were tasty. I was expecting a bit of something "exotic" or more "rebellious" from Bask and after few dishes it was perhaps to predictable . Overall a good experience.
Terrific food and wine list. Superb service. They have a tempernillo / cab blend that was amazing. All the food was delicious. Great for sharing. Terrific for large groups we had 9 people. Ordered food and wine $44 per person including tip and tax
The service here is outstanding - we had a toddler and infant with us plus a high maintenance mother and the wait staff was nothing short of amazing, empathetic, and helpful.
Some of the portions of food were on the smaller side (even for tapas) but it was still good and would recommend.
