Seafood
The idea for Basin began several years ago when Chef and Owner of Baru, Edgar Caro, along with his friend Antonio Mata, decided to open Basin, a seafood restaurant serving modernized, lighter versions of traditional Louisiana dishes. Basin sources the best possible ingredients from local sources, highlighting seasonal vegetables and Gulf fish in our daily specials.

Basin offers sidewalk seating along the busiest sector of Magazine Street. We also have a lush courtyard for additional seating and a relaxing escape from the city.

I highly recommend the shrimp roumalade served on a fried green onion. I also really enjoyed their bourbon cocktail (called Jacksomething - I can't remember the name). Nice and potent which of course made the food taste even better.

My only wishful thinking was that they have more than 1 bartender as it took awhile to get our drinks.

Food was great!! Only complaint was the waiter gave us a Mac and cheese after explaining we wanted fish tacos twice but they came out very quickly regardless and everything was so delicious! Chicken and waffles might be my favorite food of all time!

We have been to Basin Seafood several times and it has always been very good but this time it wasn't, primarily because of the slow kitchen. Our server was very good but for some reason the kitchen was extremely slow; it took over half an hour to get our entrees after we ordered them. The restaurant was half empty and our server apologized several times for the wait. Not sure why it took so long but when our food did arrived it was very good. In spite of this one disappointing experience we will go back.

Very pleasant, good food and drinks. Service was a bit erratic and at times, too slow or too rushed, which was not conducive to enjoying the excellent dishes that were served. I would return though, could be better next time.

Came here for happy hour. I’ve done thousands of Happy Hours all around the country and this one had an amazing value for what was offered. $6 for a dozen of fresh gigantic oysters? Um, can’t beat that. And the rest of the food on the menu was delish! The waitress was super cool and fast too! We appreciated it!

First time in New Orleans and happened to come across this gem!! Charbroiled oysters were delicious and the chicken and waffles were enough to feed two!! Basin is definitely on my list to visit again when I'm back in town.

We went to Basin to have their char-broiled oysters...they did not disappoint! Our party of four had 2 dozen, plus a few appetizers & beet salad for dinner. Perfect! Service was great. Thanks for a wonderful meal. We turned our dinner companions into char-broiled oyster fans. ( You can't get these in San Diego!)

Perfect spot! Sat on the patio on a glorious evening. The brussel sprouts - holy crap! I don’t even like brussel sprouts, and these were on a different level! Crab beniets, red snapper dip...soo good! Highly recommend!

I go there for the best fish tacos in the world, but recently went for dinner and they do not have the tacos for dinner. I was so disappointed I ordered out of the menu the fries with pork debris and crawfish! OMG, what a treat. Finally had chargrilled oysters and Ruby Reds and I'm telling you, this is as good as it gets. Strongly recommend. Everything in the menu is delicious (and off menu as well).

Basin is a very special, unassuming, and certainly casual eatery with excellent New Orleans style food and freshly mulled drinks. Happy hour features .50cent oysters which are served ice cold with 3 sauces including the vital mignonette. Their Jambalaya was perfectly balanced, and importantly, not too salty but has depth.

Basin quickly became our favorite place after we moved here in 2017. Whether it's a dinner for the husband and me, or we're entertaining guests from out of town, there is something for everyone. Great cocktail menu, great local flavors. Try whatever whole fish special they have for the day, it's always incredible.

We had heard so many good things about Basin Seafood that it was disappointing when we brought a friend there who was from out of town and found the food only fair. The cocktails were good (especially the Melpomene!) There was a split decision on the crawfish and crabmeat beignets and the fish tacos. We liked the pork sliders, but the boudin balls were bland and our least favorite. We all liked the red snapper dip, but had to remind our server when he came to give us our check that it hadn't been served to us yet. The restaurant was almost empty the night we went there, so it was quiet and we were able to easily talk.

Food was outstanding! We had the Crab and Crawfish beignets, Jambalaya, and the Banana Rum cake... Heavenly! The drinks were delicious, too. The service was great. We even stopped to thank the cooks. It is a family atmosphere, so if you are looking for quiet, this is not the place. But if you are looking for a casual and comfortable atmosphere, great prices and service, and delicious food and drinks, this is the place!

This was my second dining experience at Basin. It was so wonderful that when we came back to NOLA we looked up the restaurant right away so that we could return. The menu is small, but that's not a bad thing. There were still plenty of choices and each one we have had looks and tastes delicious. The quality of the fish was amazing and our waiter was fantastic. You have a wonderful restaurant and we look forward to coming back to this city and eating there again. Thank you!
