Food was good, but just good. In a city like New Orleans it was underwhelming. No need to go back.
We went for Christmas Eve. The service and staff were great and food delicious.
Fresh seafood, craft cocktails, and eclectic decor. Had a great time with family recently. Go for the friendly service.
Fantastic food, service, a d atmosphere
Food was great and the service was even better. Thank you, Emma, for helping us have a great time!!
Appetizers came right away and were pretty good. Our entrees, however, took waaaay too long to come out - around 40 mins after we’d finished our appetizers. One person ordered gumbo which had a whole crab in it, but he had to grab the shell out of the gumbo liquid and use the cracker and hands to break the shell and get the meat. It was a mess and they didn’t provide wipes for fingers or a plate for shells. The jambalaya was flavorful but the shrimp in it were either previously frozen or overcooked; they weren’t great. Overall food was okay but not quite up to the NOLA competition.
Great location and atmosphere. If you get the mussels in cream sauce, order a side of their toasted garlic bread for dipping. You’ll thank me later!
Everything was great but a very limited menu. Only a few options to choose from for each course.
This place is amazing! Food was amazing. Would definitely recommend it.
First of all, it was a birthday but was acknowledged.
Shrimp remoulade— 4 small ( not jumbo) in a flat plate covered with a very oily mayonnaise sauce with a slight color. A handful of arugula. I didn’t want the green fried tomatoes , thus the arugula. $15
Soft shell crab poor boy// the crab tasted strange. Frozen , fried , reheated. Chemicals? Taken off the bill
Chicken tenders ( pink in the center), fries cold.
Fried oyster// I didn’t taste but the person who ordered was surprised with the fried anchovies mixed in.
One theory was that the oil used for frying was rancid.
Server attempted to make things better// he should probably work at a better restaurant.
Will not return
Very friendly staff~ charbroiled oysters little overcooked and expensive otherwise everything good, would go there again tonight!!
Food was great - service was great. One of the only places in New Orleans serving steamed Royal Red Shrimp, so always a consideration for dining. On our last visit, the waitress/bartender created a mixed drink just for me that was delicious.
Great lunchtime meal selections, good wine list and great waiter. Can't wait to go back for dinner.
Amazing service and the beignets are out of this world
I adore this place. I eat here every time I come to New Orleans, and it always exceeds my expectations. Such an amazing menu! I'm already looking forward to returning!
Our reservation was pretty early so we didn’t have a problem getting seated right away. Our server was attentive and very familiar with the menu. Our food was delicious (the Chicken and Waffles were my favorite), and even after the restaurant filled with people, we didn’t feel rushed to leave. I would definitely recommend this establishment!
Great food, great staff and fun to be at. The service was excellent, friendly and positive.
Menu is very limited. I paid 14.50 for a side of red beans and rice. Dinner was over 100 for an up town eatery. More expensive than something better in Frenc Quarter. I would not eat there again or recommend.
I always have a wonderful experience here! Highly recommend!
It was ok, but I wasn't terribly impressed. Our waiter, however, was great.
The gumbo left a lot to be desired. Service was kind and attentive but the kitchen was super slow.
Great un-rushed lunch with good food and great service!
My entire dining experience at Basin Seafood and Spirits was great. I went for brunch and our server Chris provided excellent service, and made sure that our bottomless mimosas ever hit the bottom . For my entree I ordered my favorite brunch item, the shrimp and grits and as always was, and I also tried the crab and crawfish beignets for the first time which I loved and will definitely order again. I love going to Basin the whole dining experience is always enjoyable.
Amazing cocktails and best charred oysters, ever! The Duck Ragu was also outstanding!
Dinner for 4 on a Saturday night. Enthusiastically welcomed and promptly seated for res. At 7.......our waiter was attentive and friendly on a fairly busy night...enjoyed the Brussels sprouts and a delicious red snapper dip.....catfish dish and duck ragu were delicious as well as the chocolate flan and banana rum cake with ice cream....happily recommend that you stop by and try......
Our group of 9 was well taken care of and the food was excellent! Great value|! Oysters were awesome and the Jambalaya and Gumbo fantastic! Server was great and was willing to assist with everything! Great time!
One of the most memorable meals we have ever had! Char Grilled Oysters are our new “best thing we have eaten” item! Get out of the French Quarter and relax in the Garden District!
Although raw oysters were good, remainder of meal was definitely sub-standard. To spend $80 for bad meal for two was VERY disappointing. Should have gone back to Superior Seafood Restaurant! It was terrific & better value!
Waited over one hour & still no food. When we ordered we were informed of everything they were out of so mods would be made-should have left then. Have tables so close together you are basically listening to others convocation. We watched the waitress & cook argue repeatedly. Extremely disappointed. Was so good last time.
Our experience was mixed and (hopefully) unusual. I'll start by saying that the food was delicious. There was something going on with the staff/kitchen that made the experience underwhelming and a bit frustrating. Our appetizers took forever to come out (one being gumbo, which finally arrived after we said we needed to go and received the check...but was still on the check, despite us saying to forget it - we'd been there for almost 2 hours at that point and ordered it to come out with the appetizer). Our server checked on us after a while to make sure our app had come out...it hadn't. The appetizer finally came out, and the entrees were a little quicker. We asked three different people about the gumbo and it didn't seem like anyone cared or checked on it (I could see the kitchen counter from our table). Staff was frantically running around and one woman looked really upset/angry. It was just not a great experience from a staff attitude perspective, but added in with the time it was just overall a frustrating and time consuming experience. When we ordered, the restaurant was may 1/3 full, so they weren't overly crowded. Our server alluded to an issue, but we obviously didn't know what that was.
Again, the food was great, and if that service/experience is indeed unusual for them, I'd definitely recommend it as a good option. Though it did seem that there should have been some sort of compensation (or at least we shouldn't have been charged for the Gumbo...).
Great food and service.
Will be returning before leaving New Orleans.
Trip to New Orleans
We had a table for 4 that grew to a table for 8. I modified the reservation at least 2 times with no hiccups. I called just to make sure 8 would be okay and it was perfect! They made us feel very welcome and the food was wonderful as always. I really enjoyed the evening and my guests were all from out of town and said they loved the place and the food. It was a good experience and I won't be afraid to book a larger party there again.
The baked oysters are a must have. Excellent jambalaya too.
This was 3rd visit to Basin Seafood, and it was just as excellent as the other two. Wonderful takes on the region's food and priced perfect for ordering multiple courses.
I highly recommend the shrimp roumalade served on a fried green onion. I also really enjoyed their bourbon cocktail (called Jacksomething - I can't remember the name). Nice and potent which of course made the food taste even better.
My only wishful thinking was that they have more than 1 bartender as it took awhile to get our drinks.
Great place for Mother's Day or any day! Food was fabulous, endless Mimosas were marvelous!!!
Food was great!! Only complaint was the waiter gave us a Mac and cheese after explaining we wanted fish tacos twice but they came out very quickly regardless and everything was so delicious! Chicken and waffles might be my favorite food of all time!
Loved the food! Oysters were a dream!
We have been to Basin Seafood several times and it has always been very good but this time it wasn't, primarily because of the slow kitchen. Our server was very good but for some reason the kitchen was extremely slow; it took over half an hour to get our entrees after we ordered them. The restaurant was half empty and our server apologized several times for the wait. Not sure why it took so long but when our food did arrived it was very good. In spite of this one disappointing experience we will go back.
