Basils is closed except for breakfast. Total waste of time. zero percent.
I made a reservation thinking this was basil - it was not - basil sent me to another restaurant called Jacques - loud bar on the street level - food was fine but in all the distraction my credit card got lost and they could not find it until th next day after I had to cancel it - not going back here
Quiet environment with good food was ideal for business meeting. Attentive service
I love Basil's! I had been wanting to go for a special celebration for quite a while, & the time was finally right. It was everything I had dreamed of & more! The host went above & beyond, taking a picture of us from the Crystal Court, just like the Mary Tyler Moore show! The server also exceeded expectations, finding us a celebratory bottle of non-alcoholic French sparkling cider, tucked away in the back of the bar! The food was fantastic & fancy & beautiful! We went at the end of lunch hours, on a weekday, & it was lovely & quiet, just right for heart-to-heart conversation & reminiscing. All in all, very memorable & highly recommended!
Mother's Day Brunch: OpenTable sent me to a restaurant that was, in fact, closed for the day.
My wife and I flew into Minneapolis to be with our son who lives there. As it was also Mother's Day, I made a reservation at Basil's based on the reviews. We showed up in the building lobby just prior to the reservation time and spent the next 15 minutes wandering around the 1st floor trying to get to the restaurant (which we could see 2 floors up). The elevators were hidden down a corridor that was being worked on and there were no obvious signs pointing in the right direction.
When we got to the restaurant reception desk there was a sign saying it was closed for the day. Had we not bumped into a worker who said she thought there might be a brunch on the 50th floor of the next building over, we would have gone home hungry. We went over to the other building and found a very nice brunch with a great view of the city. Certainly better than we would have had a Basil's. I can't comment on their food or service since I never had a chance to eat there. Did I mention they were closed?
No notice from either the restaurant or Open Table that the restaurant was closed, the meal had moved or that it was a $50+ each buffet instead of an a la carte menu. Poor form on everyone's part.
The lesson learned here I guess is to call the restaurant and skip the Open Table app except for using it to see if there are any openings. I have used Open Table many times in the past without incident, but once burned how can I feel comfortable making another reservation, especially for a special occasion like Mother's Day, and know it will work?
When I made the reservation for Mother's Day via Open Table, I was not told that we would not be eating AT Basil's, but rather on the 50th floor at Windows to the World. The change in setting was fine, but I was expecting the Basil's menu and the Basil's menu pricing, not the buffet pricing of $50 per person. Maybe I missed it when reserving our table, but I don't think so. The price was a bit of a shock to all of us, especially my brother who has two small children who he had to pay $30 a piece for them to eat. The food was great, the staff was SO friendly, we all LOVED the gorgeous view, but we feel that Open Table/Basil's was not forthright in the booking of the buffet vs. eating in the restaurant. In fact, we went to the restaurant (which was completely empty - panic!) only to ask at the hotel front desk where they were seating people for Mother's Day and they directed us to the 50th floor. Like I said, maybe I missed the buffet info or maybe it wasn't clearly stated during the reservation process. Nice Mother's Day, just much more expensive than we were prepared for.
Outstanding service at lunch, good food suggestions and very attentive service.
It's difficult to find how to get into Basil's on Saturdays at noon. IDS building wasn't open.
A very limited menu and not a lot of options.
A lot of potential but there are other options that might have a bigger menu.
We have waited for about 2hrs before foods are served and about an hour for drinks and not many customers can't imagine if on busy night.
Waitress was very nice.
Basil's wait staff is attentive and friendly and the food is consistently good. If you can get a table on the balcony, it's always fun!
Great breakfast.....as usual! I think of this place whenever I am in town.
Took new hire to lunch for 1st day conversation. Worked perfectly, centrally located, not too loud, great value, good was great.
Classy interior decor. But also has scenic courtyard seating. Food was delicious.
Basil's is mediocre in nearly every way, which is disappointing considering the many better alternatives in this city.
From the slow service and lack of someone at the front desk for nearly 5 minutes to the thick and ill-shaped wine glasses and lack of ambiance, every aspect was disappointing. The pasta was unevenly cooked and under-seasoned. Ingredients were clearly not the highest quality, resulting in little value for the overpriced meal. The bright spot was a nicely cooked salmon, but that was basically Basil's only saving grace.
There are many restaurants with better service, ambiance, and food in Minneapolis. Take your business elsewhere.
While the waitress was wonderful and the food was actually very good, because she appeared to be the only server on duty I waited 30 minutes before actually being waited on. It took another 30 minutes before any food actually arrived. As a result, I missed a concert at Symphony Hall. Not happy. Management needs to seriously improve.
My wife & I had the best experience we could ever imagine. Over the top food preparation techniques, taste, and perfect portion sizes. We had Basil's Salad - excellent , Beef Kulbasti - super tasty sauce with a perfectly cooked filet and Hand Cut Pasta with Butternut Squash - excellent flavors and we added Chicken and Waffles - very well presented dish. And to top it off we had an efficient and personable waitress. What more could we ask for. Magnifico
Very plesant! I'm sure we'd do it again.
It's a great venue!
Decent, but nothing outstanding. Food was good, and the service was friendly.
Enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere and view is great.
Service was rushed. Had barely started the 1st course and server wanted to bring the second course. Had to tell her we were not ready.
Food was so so. Dessert course was not good and the wine pairing was a ridiculous small amount.
Have been to the restaurant before (Valentine's Day) and enjoyed the experience so tried it again. Did not go so well this time. Menu had changed (more limited now), but the old menu was still online (hosted by third party and that provider has not taken it down yet so not really the restaurant's fault there). We ordered a walleye sandwich, and that was good. Ordered a turkey burger, and that was not very good (way overdone with spices and other additives--why? is the turkey itself not very good?). Service was polite and relatively quick, but they never asked how anything was. Overall, it garners 3 stars for this visit, but last time it was 4 or 5.
The food was excellent, and the ambience was fantastic. However it was out shined by the terrible service. It took my boyfriend and I 2 hours to get our food, and the table next to us who ordered an hour after us less than an hour. For 30 minutes dirty plates piled on the table and no one came to take them. My boyfriend asked for a refill and his drink never came back. The service was appalling and I was deeply dissatisfied.
Used to go here often and was very good. Menu has been re-worked and has very few choices for dinner. I had salmon and was really good, tacos were mostly onions. Temperature in the area was too hot but that might not have been restaurants issue as we ate in the balcony area which is nice but subjected to the inside of the mall area. As a lunch spot had a good menu. Service was really good.
Menu was limited due to "rebranding", and service was mediocre at best. We waited over 40 minutes for 2 salads, and it was NOT busy. At one point (about 25-30 minutes in) she stopped back at our table, and asked us what we ordered again..... When I commented on the length of time, the waitress made excuses, but did bring us dessert to make up for it. Which didn't make up for it. I'd never go back.
The atmosphere and service was wonderful. As far as the food goes, I was expect it to be fantastic. I have to admit that the taste of the eggs just threw off the whole meal. I don't know what type of eggs are used or how they are prepared for their omelets, but to me they didn't taste like how a normal egg tastes. They weren't fluffy, instead they tasted like flaky cardboard. Both myself and my dining companion had that same problem. Since that's truly all we ate, I can't comment on any other food. I honestly don't know if I would go back due to the tastes of the food.
If it was for the experience and atmosphere, then yes I would be back in a heartbeat. I loved the outdoor/indoor dining. Plus the staff were extremely friendly and took great care of us.
Maître d’ Doug always treats me and my business guests in a "5 star" welcoming manner. As such, we are able to get our much needed goals accomplished. Thank you Doug and Basil's - David
Always a pleasure to return to Basil's in the IDS. Great view from the balcony, though a bit chilly in the winter. But the food was great. The service spot on. And great to make a reservation only 24 hours in advance. I will be back.
I'm was New Year's Eve. The food was great but the server was very inattentive. She kept asking if she could take our plates, but not if we needed anything. We had to remind her to bring bread. Had to flag her down to bring us more coffee. When she brought the pot it was hot water, not coffee. Someone else finally brought us coffee. I never got a refill on my water. Sad that such a nice place doesn't have better service.
Enjoyed a special New Years Eve dinner with my husband on the terrace. He has a hearing impairment, so the quiet atmosphere was perfect for conversation. Ordered from a lovely pre fix menu and enjoyed a wonderful meal and top notch service. Looking forward to doing it again.
We went here on a Christmas outing and had high expectations. Unfortunately those were not met. We watched someone in front of us without a reservation get the last balcony seat that over looked a beautiful Christmas tree and boys choir. Instead we were stuck inside not even on the window but in the middle at a table the only waiter in the entire restaurant missed us every single time for 15 minutes before I got up and had to ask if we could order. There were tables all around us who were mad or needed their check or boxes for food. The waiter was pleasant but extremely overwhelmed and forgot all the little things. I felt bad for them. I will not be going back here despite it being a favorite past at this restaurant.
The food was terrible. It came out cold and dry. The server was very nice, but didn't stop by to ask how the food was before we had to get going, so there wasn't much time to "make it right". We will not be dining at Basil's again.
I hate to say it but this was one of the worst experiences I've had in awhile! We waited 45 minutes for a bfast sandwich and hash browns and for fruit and an omelet. The omelet was dripping in grease on the plate so I only ate the top half.
It took way too long to get our food. We had 3 cups of coffee!!!
Needless to say, food was less than good and service was beyond awful. Had we not had a hotel stay, we would have left then and there!!!
Basil's is one of my favorite restaurants both for business lunches and for pre-theater dinners. My son and I had a light dinner before going to the Orpheum and everything was delicious. My son had the Reuben Burger and absolutely loved it. It was a lot of food- and in fact, he could not finish it- which is a first! He could not decide between the fries and greens and when his food came, the server had included both.
I had the beets salad. The red beet was infused with a gelatin which reminded me of cranberry out of the can. I did not like that but the other lightly roasted yellow beets were good.
I also had the grilled marlin with braised kale and roasted cauliflower. It lacked a little flavor but it had great potential. I added table salt which helped make it more savory.
Having said that, the bread was very fresh and I almost NEVER use restaurant butter regardless of how gourmet but their pesto butter was to die for.
The servers were very attentive, the food was enjoyable, and the atmosphere was very inviting. Finally, I could not believe I could get a reservation, on very short notice, on a Saturday evening. Loved the place!!!
Selected the restaurant based on its location for both parties. Checking in we were advised that the outdoor (in the atrium) seating would be close to the holiday festivities! A full scale band playing holiday music. We stayed inside and everything was great. Had the house burger which was really good! Service is terrific !!!
It was okay. Not great, not terrible. Food was somewhat overpriced for what they served. One of the chicken entrees arrived was not warm, not hot, and the sauce on the side was barely warm. Three small tacos $14 - not a good value. They were tasty, but appetizer size. The view into Crystal Court was nice, though the cascading fountain turned off shortly after we were seated. It was a nice quite place to talk. Road construction made fining parking in the building difficult and it was not vouchered. So on top of the menu prices, we walked in the cold from a distant parking ramp that we paid for. Nice wine list. The staff were all pleasant, but I had to ask to be sure my Open Table reservation was validated. I would not repeat this experience.
The only minor complaint was that the brisket sandwich bun was very hard and a little dry. Otherwise, everyone enjoyed their food.
We needed a place to eat downtown before a concert and this was perfect!
