The waiter added two items to our bill which we did not order nor receive. It was dark and I signed bill not realizing it happened. Next day I went to owner to tell him what had happened. Promised to investigate and get back to me. Never did!!
Food was mediocre. Pizza was more cheese than Margarita.
There are much better restaurants in Carmel. Do not recommend.
Great meal and service at a nicely tucked away place in Carmel
This place is fantastic! The food is excellent, service is attentive and friendly, and the ambiance is unbeatable. It’s a charming restaurant tucked away among art galleries. The wines by the glass selection could improve, but the food is top-notch. Highly recommend.
Great restaurant! The wine list is amazing!
Carlos and Heidi were outstanding. Food out of this world. Loved it.
Delicious food, but we felt rushed and the server forgot about us midway through the meal.
Everything was delicious and the service and ambiance were equally wonderful!
Consistently excellent. Our first time for lunch after several dinners. Delicious! Equally varied menu with something to please a variety of tastes. We highly recommend Basil for service and food.
Great all the way around
The restaurant was almost completely empty and yet still we had wait 15 minutes to even have our order taken while the wait staff literally stood around doing nothing together. The food was OK. Nothing spectacular and not particularly good for what we ordered. Overall, this is a beautiful location with tons of potential that probably needs a new owner and a new chef.
New Zealand salmon was above any expectations. Braised calamari were tender and not overcooked. And even polenta was top notch.
We really like the food, the cocktails and the ambience at this restaurant. My only disappointment is the service. The server rushed us a couple of times to order the entree when we were enjoying the appetizers. Further, we asked that she look into whether the receptionist had checked us in on opentable . Instead of simply asking for my name, her response was "but I don't know you!" This was a hilarious way of responding to my request!
Food was very over rated and over priced for how it tasted. The food looked way better online and in real life than what it actually tasted like. I ordered the black spaghetti and the sauce needed seasoning and the shrimp and most of the calamari were over cooked and rubbery. Definitely not worth the price. Most of the waitstaff were pretty friendly but one of the waitresses seemed like she was always in a rush/ didn’t have the time of day for us and wasn’t friendly.
Consistently great food. Excellent service. Very dog friendly. We had salad followed by the chicken and salmon. Cobbler is not to be missed wonderful.
Great service, but we felt very rushed.
It was very busy & crowded, but still a positive experience for our anniversary weekend.
Friendly service. Good food that came out fast. Very enjoyable and reliable dinner while visiting the area. Would recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
Ate outside on patio because of pet. Very pet friendly. Noise was moderate because of sidewalk traffic. Great sandwiches & pasta plus they offer more extensive entrees & salads. Our waitress was great, friendly & professional, which is more difficult while serving outside due to Covid restrictions.
The BEST food! And such nice service folks. Beautiful outside area.
Tables were too close together during Covid pandemic.
Great staff, chef is excellent, food is amazing!, manager/ owner attentive.
Very bad waitress experience, screwed up order and forgot parts of our order. When brought up to her attention she replied rudely. Owner was extremely nice and food that was delivered was tasty. The portions were small and expensive.
Food was average at best, insanely overpriced and the portions were tiny. Really poor value all in all, and I have no desire to come back.
Absolutely outstanding. Don’t miss this hidden gem in Carmel.
Lovely dinner and atmosphere!
A bit disappointing. Dinner size salad was the size of a side salad!! It was not worth $15. They asked if we wanted still water or sparking. We said still and we were charged almost $9 when tap water would have been fine ( not offered). My husband asked for added mushrooms on the pizza and a about a dozen tiny slivers were added for $5!!!
I enjoyed my veggie burger very much. It was delicious.
The pizza was just ok. Service was just ok. Not a lot of effort to please us.
Great food and lovely service in a very nice setting
We loved the name “Basil” we made reservations prior to arrival. Walked over from our hotel. The atmosphere was great. We were pleased and looked forward to our dinner plans. I had the BUTTERNUT SQUASH RAVIOLI VEG
spinach pasta, organic brown butter sage, Parmesan cheese, arugula. It was delicious. My daughters loved their dishes as well. It’s a nice choice🍷
Everyone is very shorthanded these days so good service is hard to deliver. The small staff did their best and the food was pretty good. We’ll be back.
The service was excellent, given that they were very short on wait staff. The food and portions were underwhelming for the cost. My husband had homemade pasta but mine clearly came out of a box. The bread pudding was all bread, dry, and no pudding. With all of the amazing Italian choices in Carmel, we would not choose this place again.
Not a bad spot in the heart of downtown Carmel! We were here for Monterey car week. After a long day of driving and events, was excited for a big and satisfying meal. The ambience of this place is great, tucked away in a little corner with decorations resembling a modern farmhouse. Our server was very friendly and enthusiastic! We went with the lamb meatballs and spaghetti, pizza, and ended with the chocolate cake. Although portions were smaller than I had hoped, it was perfectly cooked with amazing flavor. Finishing off, The chocolate cake, melts in your mouth. The combination of hot chocolate and cold ice cream is perfected here! They also make a GREAT cappuccino, best one I’ve had in Carmel so far! Overall I wish the menus had more options, as it was a bit hard for 3 of us to find variously different options for each other, but it was ok for the day. Overall, I will be back, just hoping they add more items to the menu!
Food was wonderful but the service was terrible, we had a table that was totally unstable and rocked back and forth.
Great selection of food. Everything was prepared perfectly; some of the combination were outstanding. Service was impeccable.
Delicious food, excellent service!
We had a wonderful dinner here. They had great vegan choices too. And, our server, Heidi, was a delight. Thank you, Heidi, for an overall great dining experience.
The owner, our waitress (Dulce) and all of the staff were as incredible as the amazing, fresh, healthy food!!
All staff members we encountered were friendly, helpful and professional. There were four people in our party, and each of us were extremely pleased with our meals. I had the half chicken with potatoes and veggies, and it was wonderful. This is a must stop for us when we are in Carmel.
Had a very enjoyable experience. The outdoor dining are was very nice. Tables were much too close for us to be comfortable. Even though the COVID precautions have been down graded, Basil would be well served to spread things out a bit.
Love this restaurant, the owner is amazing and we visit often due to lovely staff and consistently great food. Love the outside patio ambience with heaters.
Great pasta and great desserts. Service on point as well as the ambience on the patio. Nothing was off.
