Basil Canteen @ 11th Street
They seemed short of staff the night we dined which resulted in slow service although the owner/ manager stepped in. The food we had was outstanding and there are a lot of dishes still to try, so we will be back.
FANTASTIC FOOD! great atmosphere. Our server had a strange attitude and seemed annoyed to have to take our order, and had zero personality, but did take the time to take a decent picture, so I appreciated that!
Food was so good- we had a party of 8 and everyone loved their food- and my friend was so glad they had gluten free items and a GF separate menu!
It has always been good and I return repeatedly with friends and sometimes by myself. Convenient to South of Market performance venues like Oasis for before or after the show meals and cocktails.
Food came out before drinks arrived.
Really good Thai food. The fresh spring rolls and the various noodle dishes were a hit for our group.
The dishes are reasonably priced and very tasty. And the drinks menu is interesting and has something for everyone. Service was prompt and courteous; they helped us get out fast so we could make a show nearby. I'm not a big fan of community tables. I'd put up with it to eat there again however.
Food and service, as usual, did not disappoint. Basil Canteen is in our regular rotation for a reason.
I really enjoyed the food but the service was pretty bad. I had a reservation but we weren't seated until 20 minutes after the reservation. After being seated, there was one server in our area it it took her forever to get to our table. Also the mixed drinks weren't very good either. Avoid the Full Moon drink.
Excellent food. Happy hour specials were nicely priced with variety.
Great spicy Thai food in a cool ambiance. Friendly service.
Don’t think I saw their “Boat Noodle” on the menu the last time I was there, but I tried it this time and it was really good..
Good food, not the best Thai I have had though. Enjoyed it though.
Great location. Service was also great. Food was underwhelming and the drinks were WAY watered-down. Like, we had to laugh at how watered down they were. Overpriced for the experience.
Delicious food, great service and creative drinks!
Excellent service, good food...would definitely go back!
Absolutely fantastic Thai food. I have had Thai throughout the US & in Thailand and this is as god as it gets. Delicious, tasty & any adjective you like, definitely a place for great Thai food. Happy hour until 7:00 PM, so all wines are $5.00 per glass, such a bargain.
Food was good, reasonable prices. The wok-fried brussels sprouts were very disappointing. They were undercooked and steamed, not much flavor.
The green curry, squid dishes were terrific.
The food was excellent!! They even have a Saturday happy hour which was a great deal!!
Amazing papaya salad!!! Very nice place. Any time!
Food is amazing but don't expect for a fast service.
Great service, great food, great cocktails. What more could a girl want? Highly recommended!
Food was delish. The owner was there making sure everything came out perfectly. Prices were reasonable. The egg rolls were amazing.
Fantastic place, especially for large parties (we had 12). They have great long tables and a pretty diverse selection of food; everyone enjoyed what they got
Chicken Satay reminded me of thailand... in fact all the dishes did.
Great experience! They messed up and accidentally brought us the wrong appetizer but it was super yummy and they offered to come it and bring out our original order. Great service overall. Drinks were good too!
Yum yum yum!
Good food and very good customer service. I will return to have lunch here.
Extremely undercooked chicken, waiter said it wasn’t possible and that I just wasn’t used to it.
This menu does not include information about peanuts included in some of their dishes. This is a big problem for people with peanut allergy. Not a lot of options for anyone not hardcore Thai foodies. Won't be returning.
Excellent Thai food. As one who knows Thailand very well, this could be the best Thai food in SF. Don't order the "American stuff" like Brussel sprouts. Stick to the Thai dishes and you will be very pleased. Nice staff. 110% recommended.
Each dish had different profiles while still sharing many common ingredients. Pork, chicken, prawns, beef variations in 10 different dishes seemed original even though some like Pad Se Ew are standards. Gai Tod Pad Pik Khing are must have. Pleasant staff. Unique cocktails Siamese-Kaze was standout. Quiet evening because of moderate amount of guest, atmosphere is open, casual and generally relaxing. Could talk in normal voice.
This place always has consistently solid food. I would recommend all of the noodle dishes & stir fries!
Best Thai in town
Always so accommodating of my large group at a late seating.
Decent setting, food was mediocre.
Wonderful innovative food, not just mainstream Thai. Fantastic service, cool building, easy street parking!
We love this place so much that we would have dinner every time we plan our trip to San Francisco! I highly recommend this place for lunch and dinner!
Was looking forward to dining at a well rated Thai restaurant in SF. While the service was very good as well as the ambiance the food was simply average. On a good note the curries that came with the duck and shrimp dishes was nicely crafted. Debatable however if we - there were 6 of us , would return. Thats unfortunate as we did want to like this restaurant.
Consistently good food, served quickly and with medium Thai spice (American scale)
Great Thai food, delicious cocktails, and good service at this SOMA Thai restaurant. Also love the two level space, and the upstairs dining area is perfect for a small gathering. Definitely one of my favorite Thai restaurants in SF!
