Basho Japanese Brasserie
Basho is a contemporary Izakaya brasserie where dishes are prepared in two separate areas: the principal kitchen and the sushi bar. Rather than offering individual starters and main courses, Basho serves dishes that are designed for sharing and are brought to the table steadily and continuously throughout the meal.
Your server will be happy to assist you in choosing dishes, such as our Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice Appetizer, which is highly popular or our specially crafted 1338 Signature Roll. We are also conveniently located within the heart of Fenway. If you're ever in the area for a Red Sox's game, stop by! We are only a 2 minute walk from Fenway Park!

It was yummy!
My son and I enjoyed a delicious meal before going to Fenway for a concert.
Dim sum options were really good! Also, be sure to try the highball cocktails
We were a party of 8. We sat for forty minutes without even being served the drinks we ordered. No even took our orders for food.
Restaurant was excellent. Attentive service; interesting menu and sushi dishes that were excellent. Only downer during dinner was not from restaurant, but from Open Table. Open Table sent email before I finished dinner indicating I failed to keep reservation - ruined all the fun.
The food was delicious and just spicy enough (especially the soft shell crab), and the service attentive without being intrusive. A nice, calm spot for dinner with a friend.
Good for a large group including kids
What a great find in the Fenway area. Sushi, excellent Dim Sum and an amazing Katsu Donburi. We'll be back. The service was excellent as well. Really great before a show or a game in the Fenway area.
The food and cocktails were great and our waitress could not do more to help us. Would definitely come here again.
Only issue for us were the people at the front desk who were really unhelpful and miserable.
Must try the tuna tartar. Fantastic! Summer roll was very good too.
Took my dad here for his birthday! The rolls were very good and the spicy edamame was tasty. I personally loved the crazy roll, which consisted of shrimp tempura, avocado, cucumber, and spicy mayo. Portion sizes were great as well! Casual and cozy place to fulfill a craving for Japanese food.
We went after a Red Sox game. The food was tasty and service good. It is a funny/odd space but pretty quiet which was nice.
The food was delicious and service was efficient.
Outstanding food and service! Our server Joy is awesome as is the sushi!
Great food and good service! I like that I can easily go and get a table but sometimes wish it was a bit more lively
Had a great meal at Basho, excellent service - would absolutely go back
The pork belly steam buns are awesome. They should have a dozen offering. 1338 roll and seaweed salad also very fresh and tasty.
I had much higher expectations after seeing generally positive reviews on here and on other sites. The food was extremely disappointing. After seeing that the restaurant was empty I decided to go for "safe" options instead of ordering things I normally would, which turned out to be a good idea. My salmon sashimi was OK. Like absolutely just passable. My spicy tuna roll was extremely dry and had, inexplicably, and without being described on the menu, stale, crushed up panko crumbs mixed in with the tuna inside the roll. It was really not good. The edamame the waitress recommended with the 'spicy sauce' came covered in a sugary, vaguely spicy sauce that was really unpleasant. The pork bun was OK, again, barely passable. For a cool looking spot with a good-sounding menu, it was really a bummer. Definitely not worth going out of your way for,
Best sushi AND service in Boston!!! The “boat” was absolutely delicious AND beautiful! Best fried rice around!!!
Outstanding ! Can’t wait to return!
Birthday dinner, family night out. Great atmosphere and fantastic service. Best items: Noochi Roll, Top 10 bites of all time, oh my! Great sushi. Didn’t love Agedashi Tofu (bland), and Summer Roll (average). Hot Pot (didn’t love the cheese added inside), but the rest was good.
really not good food was overcooked. Service was bad. and decor was poor. Will not be back
Our waitress Joy was amazing and very helpful and so was the other waitress with short hair and the rest of the staff. The food was amazing! We had the soft crab, calamari special and the tofu and we ordered a few of the special rolls (all amazing!) a little more expensive than other sushi places but totally worth it. Alcoholic drinks weren’t so great but maybe just our taste..
very ordinary , nothing special about the food, flavor , seasoning, preparation of the non sushi items. sushi eaters said there's was good
From the moment you step into this restaurant, i was struck by the ambiance and the friendly
host an hostess that greeted us. Our waitress was professional, knew the menu and was friendly and quite sweet during our whole dining experience. This is a definite repeat restaurant to eat in. The food presentation, tastes, quality and quantity was beyond exceptional.
Original well prepared tasty sushi, attentive waitstaff
Food and service outstanding!!! Our server Jessie was knowledgeable and extremely attentive! Excellent evening! Can’t wait to return!
One of the few places open for Christmas. Accommodated our group of 8, including a toddler. Good food and good service.
I would have rated it 5 stars except for the for the $50 sticker shock for the unfiltered sake we had that night. The waiter could have pointed out the selection in the bar menu but she just nodded and slapped us with the most expensive unfiltered sake. Bad move! Last year we had the unfiltered sake variety that came in a blue bottle for $35 but alas we will never know if that one was available, will we.
Fantastic! Our waiter was very helpful friendly and attentive. Food was delicious! Highly recommend
If you're looking for a tasty, fresh, and fun place for sushi, this is it. Get started with the spicy edamame and go from there. You won't be disappointed.
The server needs a lesson in hospitality. She was intrusive, rude and unfriendly. Felt rushed the entire meal, even though restaurant was not busy. Our waters were cleared before we were done....
They tried to seat us in the big dining room but it was fairly empty and dark so we opted to sit in the bar area. We ate on the early side so I'm sure the place filled up after we left. There was a small but very good wine list with a great American wine , which most Japanese restaurants don't offer. We go to Nobu in NYC and London quite often and I would say the food is on the same par.
Service was great. Food was really delicious. Great variety.
they were able to accommodate our vegetarian requests with substitutions. my daughter thought the teriyaki dish and miso soup were extremely flavorful, while my husband and i enjoyed the fried rice and rice bowl. It was so good that we were in pain from overeating. the service was pleasant and attentive
Chinese style sushi, not Japanese. Okonomyaki really disappointing for $12, with a muddled, overly salty sauce. Chinese dishes were better, but hardly nuanced or authentic. Not strong values at these price points. Service was friendly and attentive.
Food and drinks were great. The server was a bit confused and kept forgetting, changing the orders around.
I go to Basho often, before Red Sox games. The food at Basho is fresh and a great alternative to the relatively heart-unhealthy food at Fenway. The service is nice and the food is consistently excellent.
Eaten here many times but not since they changed management. The FOOD was great. Service was the problem. We had no idea who our Waiter was. One person led us to a table. Another took the Order. Another brought the Order (but not exactly what we has ordered). We had to ask someone else who was passing for what was missing. Another cleared our table. We had to ask a Busboy for more Tea which he brought us. We then asked the guy who seemed to be in charge that we needed more Ginger and Wasabe which is what we had placed with the original order. It took 10 minutes for someone else to bring those items. We asked the "Manager" for the check. Someone gave us the check........we completed it and had to wave the Manger to take it which he did. After what seemed like 15 minutes the Manager was seen handing the credit card bill to our original waiter whom we hadn't seen since placing the Order. Someone else brought back the receipt. Seems like they have diversified the whole experience of dining there instead of developing somewhat of a relationship with you Waiter.
For me it was a turnoff and I wont eat there for a while. Maybe good for transients who don't know better. But if this persists....stick to the 15% tip....or no tip.
Excellent choices, great quality, impeccable service. Overall very good experience, worth repeating.
