About Bascom's Chop House
When the original Bascom came to Florida at the turn of the last century to help Henry Flagler build the Key West Railroad, he brought with him his love for thick cut chops and juicy steaks. During his travels he also discovered the bounties of fresh native Florida seafood.
We have brought all of his favorites together in a true American Chop House that pays tribute to Bascom's hearty appetite and a passion for great steaks, chops and fresh seafood.
In his honor, we have made Bascom's Chop House a comfortable, yet elegant, American restaurant. We are proud to offer a superbly crafted wine list and American Mid-Western beef, aged to our own exacting specifications to ensure the most tender and flavorful steaks served anywhere at any price. And, true to our Bascom's Chop House name, we also offer hand-cut veal, pork and lamb chops all prepared to perfection, as well as a great selection of native seafood delivered fresh daily.

Bascom's Chop House Ratings and Reviews
Great food! This was great to take my husband to for his birthday dinner. We had a party of 10 and they were very accommodating. Patrice the server was wonderful. The manager even came over to check on us at our table. Everyone looked like they're having a great time.
We came for a birthday celebration with a large party of 12. The service was impeccable. The food was delicious. The steaks were flavorful and cut like butter they were so tender! Overall, it was a wonderful experience. We will definitely be back for special occasions and date night.
Last year (2016) we had a party at the Beach and Bascom's catered it. Did a wonderful job. My 86 year old parents like to go there for dinner either on there way from or to the airport when they're down for a visit. They were heading back to St. Louis on this occassion. I don't remember our waiter's name but he had glasses and said he was Cherokee Indian. The food was amazing and wonderful. Unfortunately, our server was the opposite. He was condescending, difficult, rude and unpleasant. I'm just glad this wasn't our first Bascom's experience. Since we've been there several times before both for private meals and for attending seminars, we knew that the service is usually much, much better.
Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing (especially at the high expense point), mainly because of the service. Our server seemed nice and friendly, but must have been overwhelmed by the Saturday night crowd (though that's no excuse!):
-- the food was cooked correctly, but came out without any steak-house sizzle or heat, basically just tepid.
-- we had to ask for bread; he said he'd bring it right out; we never got any.
-- we asked for dressing on the side for the salads; the dressing was ON the salads. And, the one salad where we wanted a good shot of dressing ON the salad (the wedge), there was hardly anything there.
-- never any re-fills of water.
-- we asked for one big cheesecake to split for four; why only two forks?
Just a bunch of little things that didn't add up. Expecting the "Best of Tampa Bay," we were very disappointed.
I somehow feel like it's not just the server to blame, but the whole management and team attitude. I imagine that sometime in the past everyone really worked hard to make this a special dining experience, but sadly, it's just not that any more.
I have dined at Bascom's many times, and always had good experiences. This last visit however was not very good. The hostess and waiter were excellent, however the quality of the food has deteriorated. We ordered wedge salads prior to dinner. The lettuce in both salads was very watery, and the iceberg lettuce itself was not crisp and cold. For dinner, my pork chop was ordered medium, yet when served it was very raw in the center. I sent it back, and it was still raw when it came back the second time...and I mean RAW! The manager came over to apologize. The third try yielded success...a properly cooked entree. Also, we ordered the grilled lobster tail as an entree vice as an appetizer. It arrived at room temperature. My guess is they prepared it as an appetizer, and let it sit until the entrees were complete. There were 4 people in our party. Two had good meals, two did not. 50% satisfaction rate is not good at a restaurant of this caliber and price point. We likely will not return. There are too many other great dining establishments in the Tampa Bay area that provide consistently great food and service in a more intimate and quiet ambience.
Food was good and a great value. Our waiter was nice but seemed to struggle managing 3 tables - perhaps improperly trained.
My suggestion - if you want quiet and a game isn’t on...just eat at the bar.
I would go back, but with the expectation that I have to ask for everything and manage service to get what I need.
Service was top notch... they take good care of you and our server visited our table often to make sure everything was good and our drinks stay topped off. Food was excellent as well. Definitely earn the rank of being one of the top rated restaurants in Tampa Bay!
I'd heard it was one of the great Tampa/Clearwater steak houses so we tried it. Does NOT even begin to compare to MANCY's in Toledo, Ohio. The waiter was no where in sight when our food was put onto a delivery tray - and it literally sat there for 3-4 minutes. It was as if he didn't take our dining experience seriously - for granted due to their name. The prime rib was FATTY and lacked any kind of special flavor and I can make a way more interesting mashed potato than what we were served. 3rd RANK - do not bother - very disappointed for $150 for 2 meals and 2 drinks each! NOT worth it what so ever.
We were there for NYE.Last year on NYE was our first visit and it was one tremendous from the service to the food. This year was not as good. The service was excellent but the Lobster tail was over cooked and hard to cut or chew.Besides that It was a good experience and would go back but propbably not for NYE when they are so slammed.
Had to ask waiter for bread 3 times.
Very small amount of salad
Very small. Amount of onion straws on our plates where people around us had large amounts on their plates.
My coffee was ok where my husbands was very bitter and not drinkable. The waiter really didn’t want to bring him another one. He
questioned what my husband was saying. We had to insist he bring another cup of coffee.
We go to Bascom’s often. The service and food was not their usual service.
We have dined at Bascom's many times and have always had very good meals, this time, it seemed the food was not as good as usual. It may have been because they had a limited menu and it was New Year's Eve. We both had Prime Rib and while it was good, it was not as good as previous visits.
We will continue to eat at Bascom's in the future.
Bascom's is one of my favorite steak houses in the Tampa Bay area! I love the quality of the steaks as well as the other items that I have ordered from the menu. We usually sit at the bar and the bartender is phenomenal. We were in on New Years eve and they did a great job keeping up with our food order which was a special Prix Fix menu and all of the drinks. It is dark and romantic just the way I like to dine. This is my go-to favorite place to eat in our area!
I am a long time patron and always love Bascoms. We dined on New Year's Eve and there were six total in our party. We were sat 45 minutes after our reservation. It was a very busy night, but the hosts did not offer any kind of apology. We were pleased to see Philip as our waiter. He does an excellent job and even remembered us. He was attentive and our glass was always full. We did try some of the newer menu items (new calamari and truffle Mac) We were dissapointed in those compared with the old calamari and jalepeno Mac. Steak was a bit on the rare side. I ordered medium. But, still good flavor. I did see Pad Thai on the new menu, and not sure if that fits with an American steak house.
We enjoyed the New Year's Eve special fixed price menu! The menu was outstanding paired with great wine selections. Our server was very knowledgeable and attentive even though the restaurant was extremely crowded with people enjoying the evening! We have dined here often and always have a great meal and great service. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys "fine dinning"!
New Year's Eve. When we made the reservation, we thought we would have the choice of regular menu or fixed price. It was fixed price only.
Server was not a regular server. She was OK. She could not comprehend the need we had for gluten and dairy free food. She DID accommodate us after we asked her several times.
The meal was good but NOT the usual quality of food we have had at Bascom's not was the service the fantastic service we normally receive.
New Years Eve dinner was amazing. We initially got lost going to the restaurant. I called and told them we would be late, 5 minutes turned to 20. We got there, the staff was understanding and we were being seated in a matter of minutes. The salmon and caviar w/champagne were what was so needed. Thank you again for a great meal, great service and love the salts in the restroom. We will definitely be back.
Our first time there was a little disapointing. We were there early and the doors were closed. The bar was not available for waiting till 4 pm, the time of our reservation.
We were the 3 rd couple in and were given a table for 2, where I was facing a corner with my back to the rest of the room. The table was poorly set as my chair got caught on the tablecloth which had not been centered properly.
A second server wanted to remove my salad plate because our diner plate had arrived, I told him that I had not finished. The main server later reached across the table to remove finished plates instead of going around our small circular table. The problems are mainly staffing and management issues.
The roast beef was excellent and the cheese cake (large portion) was superb..
We go to Bascoms every year the night before New years eve to beat the crowd. This year it was not as good as in years past. Service was very spotty. Took forever to get a drink, and was given prime rib when I ordered filet. Also, I ordered four scallops for my spouse and I to share with our entree. They were cold and raw in the middle and on the bill they were $24. For you who may struggle with math that is six dollars a scallop?
We will still go back next year but I hope there are some changes by then.
Great place for a family dinner. Took our three granddaughters - ages 10, 8 and 6 - for a holiday dinner. The children's menu was sophisticated, not your usual chicken fingers and pasta. Our server was very patient with the girls ordering their own food. We will return.
