Baru Bistro & Tapas
One of our favorite restaurants in New Orleans. The chef is innovative and skilled, with a changing series of excellent tapas and larger plates unlike anything we have found elsewhere in this city. The cuisine is a rich fusion of Latin American and Caribbean dishes reflecting the chef's Colombian origins and influence. Prices are reasonable and it is always a pleasant experience for visitors we've taken there.
It was great!
Amazing experience ! I’ve been there many times and always the same great attention and food!
Last night my friends and I were blown away by the suggestions on the menu and the customer service. We were even singing(wrapping tastefully) to the latin music they had on.
I assure the world, we will be back!
Celebrating my sister and brother’s birthday. The staff was awesome!
Great little plates and happy hour sangria specials.
Food excellent, service, meh. We got there at 7:50 PM and a male host/waiter asked if we had any reservations which we didn't. We were told, "sorry we are fully booked tonight." We walked out, opened Open Table app, and saw there was a table for two open 8:00 PM... huh? So we went back, a hostess welcomed us and she sat us down right away, she was very nice and apologetic, and so did the initial male host when he met us again. We chose to sit outside upstairs in the balcony, which was awesome. Our waitress however, was also working the bar inside and was not as attentive as we would have liked. Both times that our food and desserts were brought to us (kitchen personnel delivered the food not waiter), no utensils. For the main entree another waiter noticed and brought them to us. For the dessert, I had to go walk in and ask for the utensils to our waitress. I will only recommend it because the food was excellent. I think the service is hit or miss depending on the person and competence of the staff that interacts or is assigned to you.
Too many people crammed into a small place leading to too much noise. The food is fabulous!
I found it a little dark inside therefore I could not read the menu thoroughly and I really did not get to order what I would have had I seen the menu before hand. Could not bring the menu up online before going. Took a menu with me for next time. And did not realize there was a brighter room upstairs or I would have taken it. Should have talked to friends that have been there before going. Will go back again and definitely ask for the upstairs. The empanatas are unbelievable and will definitely have them again. The margaritas were wonderful. Think I will stick with tapas and drinks next time cause saw several on the tapas menu that I think I would like. I had the whole fish witch was very good but a little dry for my liking. It was still very good.
Don’t eat upstairs, no ac and they won’t warn you. Food was overpriced for the quality.
Amazing food, good prices! I loved it! Excellent service!
Overall it was a good experience food was great service excellent and a very nice place I'll defenetly going back to eat there again
Good food and nice atmosphere.
Baru is a gem. The food is outstanding in presentation and complex flavors. The menu has a good selection for different tastes and the portions are just right. The drink menu compliments the food and is as imaginative as the dishes. The downstairs is comfortable and great for a group but the upstairs bar and seating is my preference. A bit more quiet and has a more intimate vibe.
We had a reservation but the hostess wanted to seat us upstairs even though there were plenty of tables on the first floor. They put us at s table away from the main dining area that was in a dark area even though there were tables available in the main dining area. The food was ok but I would not go back
Food was delicious. The service was atrocious. Not sure if it was just our waitress having a bad night, but it ruined the experience.
I have been to Baru many times. It’s always delicious, very fresh and healthy. They have the best drinks too.
Always excited to enjoy a meal here as it never disappoints!
The food is so good, everything we had we enjoyed so much. We shared our plates and enjoyed each plate very much. The drinks were also very good, love that this restaurant is only a block away.
I think the food is really unique and interesting. Service is always good and I think their fried oysters are about the best in the city
However the place seems “dirty”..... needs cleaning and painting. When the stair railing feels greasy it is time for Mr Kleen to get busy. Otherwise I love to come here for very good food.
What a find - every bite was delicious especially the guacabello and steak strips. We ate outside though like the inside vibe as well. Service is attentive, yet relaxed and friendly. I liked it so much I went back the next day for lunch.
Jazzfest dinner with a large group
The food was excellent as well as the service, I was impressed with the uniqueness of the shrimp plantain dish, the presentation, quality and taste. Our server truly cared about our experience and was very gracious.
Food was terrible
Pork skins could have been fried better. Oysters were awesome and the steak was very good.
I have eaten there several times and always can't wait to go back!
Table was right by the entrance which is noisy and busy. The food was cold.
This was a disappointing trip to Baru compared to the past. It was a Saturday night and the kitchen was overwhelmed so our main course came out very late and was overcooked. They did not charge us for our main course. The appetizers and small plates were fine. I think the staff was trying to do its best, but the restaurant does not seem to have the capacity to deal with peak crowds.
First time having brunch. The huevous rancheros and Baru's steak and eggs dish with potatoes and brussel sprouts were fantastic!
Excellent food and service...can’t wait to go back!
Excellent food and stellar service!
Great cocktails! Great food!
The mazorca app was fantastic as was the cuban sandwich!
Will def be back!
Baru is one of our most favorite places to eat when we are in town. The tapas are delicious. This past time, they seemed very understaffed. We noticed other patrons looking around expectantly for a server when there were none to be found. The wine the server recommended was not good and she offered to replace it with something else and then never did (it was not on the bill thankfully). This is the first time we have ever had anything negative to say and will continue to go again and hope it was just a fluke.
We love Baru every time we go n
We come from Massachusetts and love going out for dinner in New Orleans. This is our second visit to Baru, which says it all. New Orleans has so many wonderful restaurants, and yet we return to Baru because the food is wonderful and the service is great. This visit we shared: Guacabello (grilled portobello, avocado, scallions, Spanish olive oil, spinach tortilla totopos); Lechón Cubano (Cuban style pork, rice, black beans, sweet plantains, pickled onions); and Fried Brussels Sprouts. For dessert, we shared Cuatro Leches Cake. All super delicious. And, since we don't care for cilantro, our server substituted Coconut Rice for the Cilantro Rice usually included in the Lechón Cubano. We give Baru the highest recommendation!
This appears to be a tourist trap.
Read poor reviews after booking and noticed the $25 per person cancellation fee. So we went (party of 7)
Bread was awful -took one bite and stopped.
Salad was decent.
Oysters were decent
Entrees were fair to poor
Waitress was mechanical.
Bill was $499 for a meal that should have closer to $250
The food was amazing, everything was top notch
Unbelievable food and service... ended up being a little more expensive than anticipated but well worth it for a splurge meal :)
Delicious! The food and service were fabulous and the cocktails are creative.
always good, love the food and drinks and J Mack !
