French Master Chef David Baruthio was born in Colmar, raised and trained in Strasbourg, France. He studied under Michelin starred master chef Hubert Meatz. He has consulted, opened and managed restaurants and hotels in a number of different countries including the UK, Switzerland, Belgium, Nepal, Beverly Hills, and most recently Mongolia before arriving in Windsor Heights, IA. He has enjoyed the opportunity to cook for a wide range of people including royalty, celebrities, and world leaders as well as good friends and family. He has been acknowledged with several awards for his work all over the world including a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide in Belgium, James Beard Foundation Semi-Finalist Best New Restaurant USA 2011, and Best Chef Midwest Semi-Finalist 2013.

Baruthio’s passion for fresh and exciting ingredients leads him into their source: nature. He is drawn to mountains, open landscapes and the artisanal family farm where fresh cheeses and wines are made.

    Baru 66 is a great hidden gem. The cook makes many appearances throughout the evening and you know you are well taken care of. The space is beautiful and you feel as though you are in Europe.

    Ordered the $55 steak frites, first of all $55 for a steak in Des Moines??!! I ordered it med rare with the au poivre sauce. Steak came out raw, slightly browned only. Sauce had 2 peppercorns. Neither was seasoned. Sent steak back, came back 10 mins later we’ll done. Couldn’t eat it. Also asked for bearnaise for the frites, didn’t have any. How does a French restaurant not have bearnaise?? Left hungry and won’t be back

    The food was absolutely amazing! The chef didn't let down from the simple, fresh, decadent dinner rolls to the complex yet home-cooked feel of dessert. I will definitely be returning to Baru 66!

    Love Baru for meeting a friend for what is always truly great food. I am always puzzled as to why they seat diners so close together when there is an opportunity to put them elsewhere.

    Very nice atmosphere. The food and service were excellent. We enjoyed the 4 course meal with wine and would reccomend this choice.
