Great drinks!!! Home made sweet potato ravioli were TO DIE FOR! Had a light cream sauce with a hint of sweetness. I added some hot pepper flakes which made the sweet/spicy contrast I love!! Good tomato sauce as well!would be a perfect place for a shower or wedding rehearsal!

I have not been to Bart's since the 1990's, but they did not let me down. Took a date there and had a great time. If you find yourself in Matawan, check out Bart's.

What an awesome place! Its a restaurant inside an old church building its really cozy and the food is absolutely amazing. I cant wait to go back. The staff was so attentive and kind.
Bart's is one of those really good old school restaurants where they make everything to order and it is delicious. The place is really cool because they are even in an old church! You should give it a try.
It was Easter Sunday and everything was very good, however the waitress, though very pleasant, did rush us through our meal. At one point all three courses were on the table at the same time. The pace of the meal was too quick. It is one of my favorite places and I will continue to go there, but a little bit slower pace.
We enjoyed our experience at Bart's yet again. We've been going to this gem on and off for 35 years and we've never had a meal we didn't enjoy. Bravo!!
Great food in a unique environment. Very pleasant and efficient staff. However, the best was the Caesar salad. They use a classic recipe complete with anchovies: a very rare find.
Excellent service and food selection. Friendly staff and ambiance was very comfortable.
The French onion soup and sweet potato raviolis were delicious as were 3 out of the 4 entres we ordered. The chicken francais was very bland and really had little taste which was disappointing as it is my favorite meal. Entres are a little pricey. Our waitress was terrific. Very friendly and efficient.
Food is good but the presentation,ambience and portions are 1982 style. The place needs to be brought into the 21st century. It's a shame because it could be very good
We dined on a busy Saturday and the food and service were very good. The bartender had trouble with his greeting and engaging skills as he handled all that was in front of him before ever even looking at us. His drinks were ok but there was great lag time. Maybe he would improve if he had a runner. All that aside, we had a very relaxing evening and the food was great.
Loved Alex English, the very talented singer who entertained that night. We would come more often if we knew there was entertainment!
Wish we came here sooner. Lived in the area many years and never stopped in. Extremely friendly and receptive staff, from bartender to waitress. As you can tell this is standing operating procedure as the owner Carolyn went above and beyond to make sure our dining experience was nothing less than perfection. And by the way, she is a doll.
As you are aware, this is a family owned and operated restaurant, you can immediately tell. It also was a former Church which takes the dining experience to a different level. If you are looking for trendy, this is not the place. Decor fits the environment you are in, which immediately puts you at ease.
Started with their signature appetizer, sweet potato ravioli as well as a special stuffed mushrooms one as well. As soon as we inhaled both of them in record timing, we knew the main courses would follow suit.
I had the Bart’s special, my Wife had chicken francaise. Both were phenomenal, however we could not finish them due to the appetizers. Food was tasty, large and plated to perfection.
Followed with dessert and coffee.
Reasonable priced, crowded and they had live music when we dined.
Cannot wait to return as we need to make up for a lot of lost time.
First time here, was for a family member’s birthday dinner, hostess Carolyn was very friendly and accommodating, asked for outdoor seating, was very pretty on patio with lots of greenery and white lights strung throughout. Nice menu and food was very good. Server was very pleasant. Brought our own birthday cake for the celebration and they were happy to serve it without an extra charge! Look forward to going back!
Entree’s awful. Over cooked pasta. Chicken that was rubbery. Anyone who claims this place has good Italian food doesn’t know what good food is.

The food was hardly edible. The chicken was horrible, salad just blunt. There were only four tables taken but we were seated next to a large group which was extremely noisy. Service was good but very slow. We were looking for a special experience and trusted the reviews but this was not even close.
Bart's Restaurant is charming!! It's located in a converted church which adds to its ambiance. The food is very good and the service is attentive. I've also eaten here for Happy Hour which is a great deal as long as you don't mind eating at the bar, which we didn't. Lots of interesting appetizer options to choose from on the Happy Hour menu. I usually eat here during the week so I don't know what it's like on the weekend, but during the week at least, you don't need a reservation. On this particular visit, we ate in the dining room and ordered entrees. I had the Chicken Parisienne, which was very good. My only complaint is that is came over linguine, which wasn't stated in the menu, otherwise I would have asked for a substitute. My friend ordered the Penne with broccoli rabe. We were both pleased with our meals and would definitely return.
My wife and I hadn't been here in a couple years and decided to come here for our weekly dinner out. It was not a very enjoyable dinner. We were greeted immediately but the hostess who showed us to our table. Then our waitress came over and took our drink order. My wife asked for a glass of moscato. Waitress comes back and says they don't have it. Okay, a riesling then. My wife said it tasted like a chardonnay and I agreed after tasting it. I ordered the warm spinach salad only to have the waitress come back and ask if the chef could add in some romaine because they were out of spinach. It was 6:15 and they were out of spinach? I ordered the salmon medallions and shrimp with vegetables over noodles. I received no vegetables and it was over linguini which I really don't consider noodles. We skipped dessert. We won't be going back any time soon.
Food was very good but a bit on the pricey side. If you like really good authentic Italian food, this is the place for you. The building itself was a church so the ambiance is also a bit interesting.
Bart and his wife were wonderful.... killer sweet potatoe raviolis and chicken and shrimp
franchise, crab cakes.... and calamari.... we will be back!!!! Try their version of a Negroni cocktail.
Quaint restaurant housed in old church. Friendly staff, and superior server who was knowledgeable about menu and extremely attentive. Food was exceptional. Well prepared and seasoned. Standout dish was sweet potato ravioli which is a don’t miss. Also really enjoyed spinach salad and cocktails. Definitely recommend.
We were a group of 8 adults and a 17 month old. We sat in a private area off the bar which was perfect for our group. We could hear the live music from the bar area and were able to talk to each other without feeling we were disturbing other diners. Our waitress, Kelly, was excellent and very attentive to our needs. Everyone enjoyed their entrees. Good value for the money.
We have dined at Bart’s many times and the experience is always outstanding in every way.
The restaurant is very nice and it being inside an old church makes it very unique. The food was very good despite the service not being great the night we were there. The waitress said their sous chef called out which is understandable and happens at any restaurant but I’m sure that had nothing to do with our bread and drinks taking a long time to come to us as well. Restaurants have mediocre nights sometimes, so I won’t hold it against them since our meals were both very good and the waitress was very nice. Definitely check the place out at least once, and hopefully the sous chef will be there for your visit.

My wife and I went to Bart’s for Valentine’s Day. As usual, everyone was friendly and our waitress was excellent. My wife and I shared a Burrata salad which was delicious. For the main course I had the sweet potato ravioli which was excellent as usual and she had the Salmon Brettone which she thoroughly enjoyed. We were too full for dessert . Excellent meal and great service made for a very nice evening.
I decided to give this restaurant a try for a pre-Valentine's day date night. It's a nice looking place inside and out, but the decor is probably going to be considered a bit outdated by anyone under forty. In fact most of the patrons in the bar area appeared to be seniors, and regular customers. From the moment we entered, the staff was very courteous and service was quick. We had arrived about 15 minutes early for our reservation, and they offered to let us sit at the bar and listen to the live music if we chose, but instead had no problem seating us promptly. My girlfriend had the french onion soup, and the zuppe di pesce for dinner. She enjoyed them both. I also had the french onion soup, and the sweet potato ravioli. While the flavor of the ravioli was perfect, the centers were cold. I'm guessing that they probably had been frozen, and when cooked to al dente, it wasn't enough to completely thaw out the center. Overall we enjoyed the night, and will probably be back to try them again sometime in the future.

Food was only adequate, nothing special.
First time at this restaurant. Kitchen was shorthanded so Bart's wife who serves as hostess as well told us that even though we had a reservation we'd have to wait which was not an issue for us. Following a short wait she seated us and proceeded to buy us a cocktail for our "trouble", which was very generous.
Service was a bit slow but nothing terrible. Waiter was very responsive as well.
Food was terrific. We had the sweet potato ravioli and Caesar salad as appetizers both of which we highly recommend. Overall, our meal was terrific.
We will definitely return and have already recommended it to our friends.
My wife and I hadn't been to Bart's in some time. In fact, the last time had to be 4 years prior (we couldn't remember why) but what a great choice. Kelly was great with very attentive service and recommendations, food was well prepared and presented and delicious. We do not plan to stay away this long next time we go for dinner on a Saturday night.
I was looking for a local Italian restaurant to have a nice dinner with my daughter. When we got there we were treated like family. Hostess was very welcoming, and our waitress was an angel! Made excellent recommendations, and was so attentive! The alfresco area was so cozy and charming we loved it! We will DEF Be Back! Btw food was fabulous!
We have been going to Bart's for over 10 years and we just love it! It is a warm and wonderful place,,,the owners and staff are terrific and always make us feel at home there. We've had many family "celebrations" there and hope to continue for years to come!
Dinner was really good with only 2 exceptions. First of all, the restaurant was a bit chilly. We needed to request that they turn down the AC (twice actually). Not quite sure why they need to keep it that cold. The second thing was that they did not have any clams. We found that out after we had already ordered; so we had to reorder. I would think they should have known that when they gave us the menus. Other than this, the food was very tasty and the service was very good.
We ended up not eating here. The smell of mold hit you as soon as you walked in the door. The place was also very dated. Would not recommend to anyone.
I ordered the Pork chop special, the pork chop was dry and tough. People are friendly enough, food so/so
Food was excellent. Service great. Reminded me of my grandmothers Neapolitan food. Very relaxing evening.
