Bartolotta's Lake Park Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Bartalotta's Lake Park Bistro completely missed the mark during our visit for our anniversary. We began by ordering a bottle of Côtes du Jura, Domaine de L'Aigle, En Griffez. A while later, our wine arrived, and I questioned the bottle, as it was a white Bordeaux. The waitress insisted it was "420." I took a look at the wine list again, and we were indeed given a 2016 Chateau Ducasse, which also was labeled "420." It took about 1/2 hour for the wait staff to attend to us again, and I pointed out the issue with the wine (we did not drink any during this time). The waitress immediately apologized and went to get the correct bottle. Some time went by, and she returned and said that they were out of the Côtes du Jura, but that they would comp the Chateau Ducasse. We said that would be satisfactory, but did point out that the wine list showed the Chateau Ducasse as a 2015 (not 2016), so their wine list must not be updated regularly. This was disappointing, as they are a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence winner.
As a starter, we ordered a cheese plate, followed by the Oeuf Mollet avec Champignons. Surprisingly the Oeuf Mollet came out first. It was a brilliant dish. Approximately 1/2 hour went by and our cheese plate finally arrived. It was a good variety with fruit/nut bread, grapes, honey, etc. Before we could finish this course, we were told that our entrees were ready, so we were asked to put the cheese plate aside.
My wife had the French onion soup, and I had the Lentils du Puy. Both had excellent flavor, however both were barely warm. After waiting so long for the wine issue to be resolved, and for waiting so long for our first course, we didn't mention anything about this to the staff, and just chalked it up to a bad experience. The entire meal took nearly three hours for a salad, cheese plate, and two entrees. With all the positive reviews, we were surprised at the issues we had with the wine, the service timing, and the lack of hot food.
The food was excellent—perfectly cooked and seasoned. Our waitress/waiter was very friendly and helpful in choosing food and wine. My only complaint was that the food came out fairly slowly—We appreciated not being rushed, but it seemed to take longer than it needed to. Also, my espresso took a very long time—I had already finished my desert by the time it came and it was lukewarm when it arrived. Otherwise is was a great dining experience.
Our luncheon was very good. The fixed meal would have been great for me but the only fish was mussels, which I love, but would have preferred a fish entrée but couldn't because the day fell on Ash Wednesday! As a diabetic, french fries with the mussels would have been too much. I was disappointed on that issue. This is still my favorite restaurant in Milwaukee!
Me and my girlfriend wanted to have a nice dinner for a pre-Valentine’s day date because both of us were busy on Valentine’s Day. We got more than we bargained for! The food was absolutely amazing and we had wonderful service! Usually at any restaurant whenever you need a waiter it takes forever for them to get to you but here they were always readily available for anything we needed. We had a beautiful view of Lake Michigan and everything was just wonderful. Me and my girlfriend thoroughly enjoyed the food, and the dessert was absolutely delightful! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to have date night.
Our family gathers annually at the Lake Park Bistro for a special evening out. We have kept this tradition alive for about a decade and we look forward to our visit every year. The service has always been excellent and the food outstanding. From the appetizers to the soups to the entrees and ALWAYS dessert we find this Bartolotta restaurant to be outstanding.
We were at the restaurant for lunch to celebrate my birthday. The waiter was very attentive when we first arrived but the restaurant soon filled and he was very busy serving other tables. Our French Onion Soup was delicious, however, the entrée was not as enjoyable. The French fries had no taste and quickly became cold and the Bistro Burger was rare, not medium to medium-rare as I had ordered. The waiter never checked back to ask how our food was. We did get to share a small chocolate cake for dessert which was very good. Overall, though, it was not a very enjoyable experience.
We celebrated my husband's birthday and I'd let them know through Open Table. They seated us at very intimate window table and had a lovely card ready for him there. The staff each wished him a happy birthday. It was all tastefully done.
I have a gluten allergy and the staff was meticulous about making sure that my food was prepared properly and that I had an option for the bread course they served. The mushroom soup special was amazingly flavorful. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner.
