Service was very poor. We waited 30 minutes before our cocktails were delivered. Waiter disappeared for an extended period of time after we ordered an appetizer before taking an order for the main course. From our upstairs seating we heard, several times, someone in the kitchen yelling at staff.
The food was over the top great. They seem to manage to get the nuance of home-cooked foods from Italy and beyond--very rare; I don't know how they do that. The portions are enormous, so be prepared. The salmon tartare is superb. Staff was wonderful. Inexpensive for the quality and experience. But order carefully because the portions are 3X what we could eat!
This was our first time at Savona. The food and service really were excellent. The main drawback was the atmosphere. The interior was cold, modern, and boring which did not compliment the historically significant structure. Given that it was so expensive, I would not go back because the atmosphere did not live up to expectations. For that price, the atmosphere should be warm and cozy. It should be darker with candles and more ambience. Also, hardly any of the original historic charm was maintained ed on the interior.
Service was bad.
Restaurant was not busy and I still had to look around for a waiter, I needed to then ask the water server to take our drink order, then finally when the waiter came out drinks had not.
Had to ask the waiter for bread.
7:15 reservation and the restaurant was out of the specials already.
Lovely restaurant but lacking service
One of my favorite restaurants seems to have gone backward a bit. Still elite in pricing, the wait staff was uneven in attention and service (ranging from very good to inept)....food was good, but not up to Savona standards. Strong and varied wine list. New décor seems to want to draw an unnecessary hip flavor to the venue. Will go back but hope for better.
After reading the recent Inquirer review, I was hesitant to try this place again. It had been a few years since our last visit, but recent positive customer reviews online made me give it another try. All in our group of three enjoyed our meals. The food was fresh, and we loved our selections. Appetizers of Scottish Salmon tartare, accompanied by wafer-thin sweet potato chips was a delicious start to the meal, as was the Five Second Tuna with crispy leeks. The American Red Snapper entree was excellently prepared and served with knee-high farm wilted greens, olive tapenade, peperonata, tomato compostas. It was delicious, excellently prepared, and one of the best pieces of fish I've had in recent memory. Our server was polite, efficient and knowledgeable about the menu. The only complaint of the evening was our table location. We weren't thrilled with our upstairs table as we were located near a doorway used by staff. The flow of staff traffic, as well as the occasional bump into our chair, was annoying. The room was dreary and very grey, but the meal was outstanding.
Submitted a reservation thru open table to sit in the bar @ 615... walked in and 2 high tops were empty. Preferred a high top, but was told;
“No reservation for high tops”
Upon arrival I requested to sit at one of them and informed, “the investors are coming in and we are reserve them for investors only”......
Both high tops were empty until 15 min before I left... when a couple came in and took a high top.... middle one was empty the whole time I was there.
They seem to be raising the bar. Service and food were so much better than anything we have found locally. Very high end food (who still offers beautifully prepared complementary Amuse Bouche courses?) with extremely friendly and attentive service. It's not the cheapest, but in line with other restaurants. Will definitely return.
Never disappoints. We usually eat at the bar, which we love, but were celebrating a birthday with a larger group so ate in the main dining room -- love the new, updated decor. The only problem is having to select what to order as everything is wonderful!
Food was wonderful as it has always been in the past. Service was decent as well. My biggest complaint is that it was our anniversary (which I had told them). The hostess told us she accidentally gave away our table because she got us confused with another party and then we ended up in a corner table surround by three large very loud parties which really took away from the evening
The food was out of this world. The servers were very attentive & very professional- they could not of been any nicer. Two minor complaints: 1) The waiters kept giving the wrong food to the wrong people all evening 2) In the main dining room, they should've put tablecloth's over the butcher block tables. It felt like we were eating at a diner. We really missed the elegance of the old Savona.
Savona was recommended to me by a friend as a good spot for my wife and I to celebrate our anniversary. We will be back for sure and I won’t be waiting a year. The food was fantastic. The ambience is great, very unique. It felt like we were at a party at someone’s house rather than a restaurant. The staff was very attentive and knowledgeable as well as super friendly. I highly recommend trying Savona if you’ve never been.
Been going to Savona for 8-9 years. We go there for 2-3 special occasion every year and always loved it. Not sure who decided to change a perfect thing but I don't even recognize it anymore. Everything about this visit was a disappointment. Now Savano is just a memory for me. Won't go again unless they go back to what they once were.
