Excellent food, excellent service, excellent place. Favorite restaurant in Phoenix, will definitely return!
Delicious meal. Wine choice was very limited but we got the impression that was temporary and margaritas were simply terrific.
There were three of us and two of our dishes were so salty we couldn’t finish them. Plus they were boring. I think of fine Mexican food a complex and nuanced. These were neither. However, this chef has an excellent reputation and we will give her another chance.
One of our new favorite restaurants when we are in the Phoenix area. All the dishes are fantastic and great atmosphere
It has some interesting flavors and dishes; but overpriced and a bit over the top.
One our best dinning experiences. Very creative cooking. Great combinations of flavors. The prime rib w tres mole was cooked to perfection and the combination of flavors made it one of the best steaks I've had. The cheese enchiladas were delicious w light corn tortillas providing a distinct corn flavor too every bite. The Mexican wines were a revelation. The Merlot had a very dark cooked fruit flavor, similar to an Amazon. The Cabernet was packed with spice, pepper, and vanilla flavors
Intimate venue with only about eight tables. The service was attentive knowledgeable. Would recommend.
One of the best restaurants we have ever been to, and we have dined around the world. The prix fixe, five course dinner is full of flavors from different parts of Mexico. There are several moles made from spices, nuts, oil, chiles, fruit (I think), that complement the proteins and vegetables. So much flavor is packed into each dish, in reasonably sized portions that don’t leave you feeling stuffed. One of us had the wine pairings, which were all from Mexico, and compared favorably with California wines. Significant to note is that there are two prix fixe menus, one is vegan and the other is not. Also, in order to get the prix fixe meal, the whole table must order it. There are a la carte selections as well. Lucas, the server, did an excellent job of handling the guest load, explaining the dishes, with a friendly attitude. We were a little apprehensive about the neighborhood when we arrived, but the restaurant is brightly lit with beautiful murals on the walls making us feel safe and welcomed.
Just amazing... 1st experience and it makes me wanting more!!!
Everything was amazing, we will be going back the next time we visit Phoenix.
Intimate, clean, good service and good food. Unique menu.
Everything about this place amazing. The food was to die for, the staff was knowledgeable and very welcoming. The only negative is that it is such a small setting that large parties take over the room. Besides that I would recommend anyone going to Phoenix to try this place out.
Extraordinary! We loved the tasting menu and the pairings with all Mexican wines, which were all delicious and reasonably priced. The Saturday night Low Rider fest outside was an added bonus. Highly recommend!
Food was authentic and, though a little heavy on spice (esp. jalapeno heat), good and the dining room is intimate, unique and interesting. They were out of one of the dishes on their tasting menu and out of one of the wines that was supposed to be paired with it, which was disappointing; the tasting menu at the restaurant was also different than what was on their website. They notified us in advance that they would be substituting one of the courses listed in the printed menu, but served a substituted wine without introduction and without telling us it wasn't what what was on the menu, which was a shame, because it was The One Wine we were really looking forward to. Also, the server used unnecessary, overly-descriptive terms to describe the food, which was somewhat off-putting, and we had to ask him for things more than once.
This little restaurant provides exceptional food for an incredible value -- I am never disappointed! Creative, beautiful cuisine showcasing a "festival of flavors" in every dish. I highly recommend getting off the beaten track to try this little gem!
A must stop place to eat if going through Phoenix :)
One of THE best restaurants in the southwest. Food is absolutely outstanding. Excellent service. Thank you, NIck.
We tried the Vegan tasting menu, and it was more filling than we expected (which was great). All of the dishes had great flavor and were quite unique. There happened to be a car show going on outside which was producing quite a bit of noise, so that was the only negative point of the night. Otherwise, service was fantastic and efficient, and overall we had a great time. Will definitely be back again at some point in the future!
Barrio Cafe Gran Reserva was amazing!
We sat at the counter in the kitchen and had a wonderful, delicious experience!
Menu is lacking in variety. (Mole everything) Like original location and menu better. Thanks
Amazing. We dined with another couple and all had the tasting menu. Two of us had the vegan menu, two the regular. Both were phenomenal. I think I am right in saying that everything on the menu (except one dessert) is gluten free. The chef is amazing and wait staff are friendly and knowledgeable.
Perfect for an intimate, special occasion.
Excellent food and service.
A fantastic evening out celebrating a birthday. Our birthday guest is vegan and the menu was perfectly suited for our mixed crowd of carnivores, vegetarians, and vegan!
Eat local!!!
Although we are staying in North Scottsdale, we decided to take a Lyft to this restaurant because the chef was so highly spoken of. The restaurant doesn’t offer much seating, which makes reservations a must. We opted for the tasting menu so we could sample a few of the specialties. The food definitely has unique ingredients and that was refreshing. The food was tasty and we enjoyed each presentation. We also had the wines offered with each course, and they were wonderful. All in all, this restaurant was an “experience” that will not soon be forgotten, but we were not totally blown away.
Had an early dinner with friends after Sunday afternoon symphony performance. We were the first table of evening and restaurant doors locked until 5:00, but we enjoyed walking the interesting block on Grand Avenue while we waited. Food and drinks were excellent and innovative. They have 2 tasting menus, but the whole table needs to order them. You can still get any of the courses a la carte, but more pricey.
We had the non-vegetarian tasting menu and it was absolutely delicious. The pairings of items on each plate was surprising and wonderful. We were well taken care of and enjoyed our evening so much!
Most amazing and diverse food I’ve ever experienced!! A must go!
We ordered the tasting menu. It was outstanding! We recommend to anyone living in, or traveling to, Phoenix . We will return on our next trip!
Easily the best meal I’ve had in Phoenix in a long time. Chef’s menu is a must, flavors are bold and creative. Love the original restaurant, but they really have something special going on here. The food is elevated yet approachable. I could easily bring my biggest food snob friend or my mom. Will join a very short list of ultimate local foodie favorites!!!
Restaurant was loud with tables too close. We did tasting menu which was disappointing... heavy on salt. The mole was very peppery. Could hardly hear the waiter describing the courses. Overall, it was disappointment for the price. .
Pricey but worth it. The food and service were both outstanding. Salvana did it again! Will definitely go back!
My partner and I did the tasting menu, which was an incredible treat! We hadnt been on a date in a while, and Im so glad we decided to come here.
The mural is beautiful (and photos don't do it justice), every bite of food was superb, and the waitstaff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable.
I hope we will return to pheonix someday so that we can go back!
Simple great food and atmosphere
Absolutely delicious, creative flavors and great service....Yum!
Felt the tasting menu was way overpriced. Meatball was delicious (yes: just one meatball) and portions generally were small. Service was very accommodating but would not go out of my way to eat here.
If it is your first time you should review the menu on line first. If you do not understand it call ahead and pick an entree to order. I would not recommend the tasting menu on your first trip. The service was great and the food we had was excellent. The menu was a specialty menu that was a little pricey! Worth it thought!
Food very good as was service.
Very limited menu however.
Very small but very intimate.
Very cute and quaint place. Food was delicious and I love the ambiance and decor. Very knowledgeable waiter and staff.
We had our Office Holiday Party here and we had a great time. The food was wonderful. service was great. Everyone loved the restaurant. Thank you!
