Mexican
Barrio Café Gran Reserva opened its door in June, 2016 and while reservations are recommended, walk-ins are always welcome at this 27 seat restaurant. Located in the historic Bragg's Pie Factory, BCGR offers iconic dishes from the original Barrio Café and a chef’s tasting menu. Still affordable, this elegant-casual venue adds to the flavor of Grand Ave, throws down some rarely served ingredients from Mexico and shines. We ask that our guests show respects to the guests before. We are a small intimate restaurant with very limited seating. We do our best to make sure your seats are available to you at the time desired. There maybe a small wait while seating becomes available from another reservation. There is a $20 per person charge for same day cancellations and no shows. Guests more than 15 minutes late for reservations will be cancelled, unless confirmed by phone prior to reserved times.

This is our favorite restaurant in the Valley. It is small, festive, with beautiful Mexican (high end) food flavors that you cannot find elsewhere.

Chef Silvana has done an amazing job with this restaurant. Had been previously and had dishes off of the a la carte menu which were fantastic, but this time decided to do the tasting menu. FABULOUS! Incredible flavors and all prepared in interesting ways. So much fun tasting each dish that came out. Miranda was our waitress and she was knowledgeable and fun. She made the whole experience even better. Thank you all for a great evening!

Service was outstanding and the vegan options were out of this world! Stuffed poblano peppers were delicious and we tried a number of different mole sauces and all were very tasty. The potato enchiladas melt in your mouth! Tableside guacamole was decadent and the Mezcal cocktails and margaritas were the perfect compliment. A definite do not miss spot!

I requested a dessert to be brought to the table for my boyfriend’s birthday however that didn’t happen. I was also unable to get the waiters attention to secretly remind him

We loved the restaurant - the tasting menu for $52.00 was a bargain. Many of the ingredients included were ones we had never tasted. Our waiter was excellent and loved the feel of the place. Our only complaint is the nose level created by the guitarist/ singer who was right next to us. It was WAY too loud; I feel as if the customers who were enjoying the restaurant were there for the cuisine, not to be entertained.

We were a party of three and we ordered the five course tasting menu. Every course was a symphony of flavors, where sometimes, even a single bite yielded different flavor profiles with successive bites. Our server, Miranda, was most delightful and thoroughly knowledgeable about the cuisine, which added to this wonderful dining experience. Very small, cozy room with fantastic murals painted on the walls. Do not miss the art work in the lavatory. Excellent experience all around.

Bario Cafe Gran Reserva is an artist dining experience. Highly recommend the fix priced dinner with the complimentary wine pairings. We are going back next week.

UNQUESTIONABLY, THE BEST FOOD IN PHOENIX ! The authentic, diverse true-Mexican cuisine is creatively conceived, wonderfully served. Try either of the tasting menus- one of which is vegetarian; the other has a wonderful mix of seafood, veal chops, salads--- along with the finest selection of tequilas !

As a courtesy we arrived early and checked in for our reservation. We were given a time to come back which was near our reservation time. We arrived back at the designated time and waited another 45 minutes to be seated.
We were offered a complimentary appetizer which was nice. We were then given to another server.
We ordered the tasting and wine pairing. The first course came out and the wine pairing was 10 minutes later. We intermittently received the wine the remainder of the evening. There were no real explanations of the food. This was a shame because the presentation, taste and content were very good

The poor execution of the dining room detracted from the meal. We understand the wait it happens but the experience went down hill after the wait . The server appeared more interested in feeding his friends after we left.

The establishment comes highly regarded as do most JB nominees. Food is very good execution was way off on this occasion.

Everything was outstanding - serious (but not stiff) about the food and service, tongue in cheek and playful about the decoration. The trees outside are festooned with knitted sleeves around the trunks and dozens of sometimes untraditional pinatas. The interior walls are painted with what look like traditional themes until you look more closely.
Our waiter was equally outstanding.
We planned to come back the next night to try more of the menu. Unfortunately, our plans changed. The only criticism was that there was no way to contact them to cancel our plans. The phone wasn't answered and the voice mailbox was full. The email address was rejected and there was no Contact Us mechanism on the web site.

Unexpected excellence! We had the 5-course tasting menu. What a treat that they offer an entire vegan/vegetarian option for the whole dinner—I had “regular” and my wife had vegetarian. The waitress was outstanding—professional, courteous, knowledgeable, attentive. Dishes came promptly but without rush. The construction of the dishes was incentive and novel, with new flavors and combinations that really made the whole dining experience exciting. Would highly recommend to anyone interested in exploring flavors and foods.

When I meet people unfamiliar with the food scene in Phoenix but interested in having incredible eats, barrio gran reserva is high on my list of recommendations. Let’s say top 2. Chef Silvana is inspired and execution is always perfect along with the best service you can find. Will continue to be a top choice for me.

This tiny restaurant (make a reservation) in the Phoenix arts area is a wonderful find. We ordered the tasting menu and were not disappointed. The food is an imaginative take on Mexican food elevated in taste and presentation. We plan to return when next in Phoenix.

I was not as impressed with this restaurant especially my wonderful experiences at Barrio Cafe. I did not like the dish I had..the pork was very tough..the noise level was loud but there was a large party of women which could have contributed to higher noise level. I think I will stick with barrio cafe.

We loved the restaurant, the flavors of the food were original and creative. Our guests and we both agreed we would return despite the fact that it would take us almost an hour to drive there. Lucas, the server was wonderful, helping us wrap up the meal as we were headed to the theater.

Had the good fortune to dine at Barrio Café Gran Reserva. Miranda was a gracious server and she was very knowledgeable about the menu and the history of the restaurant. The 5 course tasting menu was awesome. I would not expect traditional Mexican food with rice and beans. The chef is very creative and her dishes are carefully arranged. Worth a try!

Food was very interesting and a refreshing take on flavors from Mexico and its regions. Did the non vegetarian tasting menu and many of the courses were good. It was a bit heavy on Mole. Service was so-so but didn't necessarily detract from the experience. Overall would recommend.
