Made reservation a month and half ago, started seeing that it was closed on another site. Called and voice box was full, then on face book it said it was closed for summer. There sure is a disconnect on this sight and I'm not sure I will use it again.
The cafe accepted our reservation, we confirmed as requested but on arrival the place was dark with a
sign on the door saying it was closed for the summer. It turns out friends had exactly the same treatment a month ago.
Showed up for a dinner reservation with friends and the restaurant was closed for the summer, with a hand written note on the door. Drove from New River to get there!!
Just like the previous reviewer 2 weeks ago, we got no notification from either Open Table or the restaurant....but they took our Credit Card number!!!!
How many customers were impacted over the last 2 weeks!
Open Table or Barrio should do something for customers like us.
We made reservation, showed up and the place was closed for summer! Ridiculous that we weren’t told and could make reservation in Open Table. Ruined our evening as we could not get into another nice restaurant!
BEWARE! My husband and I made a reservation through Open Table for my birthday last night (Saturday). When we arrived, the restaurant was closed and deserted and several other customers with reservations were also at the front door wondering what in the world was going on. Their summer hours were clearly displayed on a sign on the door but they were obviously not honoring that schedule. The landlord happened to be walking her dog outside and told us that it was not the first time the restaurant had closed unexpectedly for an entire night without giving any kind of notice or explanation to customers with reservations.
Wonderful! Great food and service from a kitchen of real pros. Already made a reservation for next time.
One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time.
Opted for the tasting menu and I was absolutely blown away by by each course. It’s in my top 3 meals of all time and I can’t wait to go back. Side note if you have an iPhone and save the reservation to your calendar Apple maps will take you to the wrong location (1301 W Grove st) which is about 15 minutes away so make sure to use Waze or Google maps
My wife & I were greeted immediately upon arrival with a smile. This is a great start! The restaurant has basically 2 seating areas, we chose the front glassed area which is tastefully decorated and is also where the guitarist was playing. Not sure if he plays ever night, however this was a Saturday night. He certainly added to the evening and he was absolutely perfect in his song selection and level of noise. Between restaurant decor & ambiance Gran Reserva was on a roll... Now on to the food & presentation. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and also did a table side guacamole presentation after we ordered. In review, the food, presentation, & value was exceptional! The only suggestion would be improve the time it takes to get a drink. Will we return, absolutely! Will we recommend... absolutely!!!
Funky little place with about 20 covers. Interesting menu created by Mexican foodie who knows his stuff. Choice between tasting menu and al la carts which caters for vegetarians & vegans. Super drinks, guacamole and choices on both menus. Personally chose from a la carte - enchiladas with prawn & crab - a bit too cheesy for me but maybe I should have known better. My wife selected and enjoyed chicharon. Would highly recommend place which is situated in a vibrant little business block on Grand Ave.
My favorite restaurant in the valley - Barrio Gran Reserva always delivers.
It was a wonderful dining experience and the waiter could not have been nicer in explaining the dishes. Outstanding!
What an awesome place! Food is very creative and the service was awesome. Loved the cocktails as well. you cant go wrong here.
Food and kitchen was amazing. We sat at the bar and my wife was able to ask the kitchen people questions. Very helpful. The bar needs a little help. I think they had some turnover and the new bartender was not trained although he tried hard.
Food was fabulous! Service was excellent!
You accepted my reservation and credit card info for a time you weren't open
*Quick shout-out to El Charro Hipster Bar & Cafe and Breadfruit for turning a potentially disastrous evening into memorable and amazing anniversary.
I will gladly update/delete this review once I actually get a chance to dine at Barrio Gran Reserva. I am pretty bummed right now though.
My partner and I were celebrating our anniversary last night and were very excited to dine here. After having to leave a credit card on OpenTable at the time of booking and then having to confirm via text message the next day, when we showed up at 6pm for our reservation, the restaurant was locked and no one was inside. There were multiple other confused and disappointed diners standing outside with us.
We called the phone number repeatedly and the mailbox was full. I finally called the Barrio location and was told that the manager would call the owner. We never heard anything back. As of the next day, I still have not received a message or phone call of any sort to let us know what happened.
I have worked in the restaurant industry for 15 years and am very understanding about things that might come up. I would really appreciate if this was acknowledged and made right though. We still would love to dine here, but I feel a little burned after our anniversary plans fell through so badly.
We ended up rallying and having a great night, because at the end of the day, it’s just food. Stuff happens and I will give this place another chance....just maybe not on a weeknight again.
Was really expecting more. My Gran Avenida cocktail wasn’t very cold and over powered by ginger. They couldn’t make three other drinks on an already small beverage menu as they were out of things at 7:00pm on. Friday night. The table side guacamole was good but the chips were literally dripping with grease and very hard. I did the shrimp and crab enchiladas which were pretty good but not great.
What a fantastic place to dine. Chef Silvana is an artiste. Her mole sauce, divine.
love the ambience and decor. weird that we can’t get a wine list , but nice that they brought tastings of whatever type of wine we inquired about. Best dish was guacamole by far. Chef asked us if we had questions before we got a menu. Of our party of 6, was mediocre - one ribeye ordered medium rare was mooing upon arrival and sent back by my husband who NEVER sends food back - until he did. The mole was very very thick. Seafood enchiladas good . Generally it was okay but not great for the price. Meh.
We had the tasting menu accompanied by the wine selection and highly recommend this choice. Everything was delicious--inventive and well executed. We will definitely return to enjoy this wonderful restaurant.
People wishing to dine here should read the menu first--this is not typical Mexican food. Two of us had a 5:00 pm reservation, the restaurant had just opened for dinner. We were seated in the very small dining room and ordered drinks and the guacamole, prepared table side. The guac was prepared right away, but the drinks took a while. We did not have the tasting menu, and the entrees came out before we had even a few bites of the starter. The waiter apologized. I had the ribeye and my wife had the pork belly, which she couldn't eat. Neither of us had had it before, and the waiter could have done a better job explaining what it was. Ribeye, sauces and vegetables were all very good, as was the dessert, an orange moose, covered with a chocolate shell with orange sauce and a candied orange slice. Cocktails were unique, and very good. We will go again, but we will be a bit more careful about what we order.
The tasting menu paired with wine is $84 per person. This tasting menu was more like 5 small sample bites so you could decide what you wanted to order ( think Costco samples). The menu lists the ala carte and per glass price of each item so it appears that the tasting menu is a great value but you do not receive anything near a serving size. The amuse bouche and tuna first “course” were good, the lamb lollipop was okay, but the fish “course” of corvina was overcooked and very dry. Dessert was average, small tastes of chocolate mousse and what they called creme brulee, however, it had a crust and was filled with something more like a caramel than a custard. The best thing we had was the espresso cocktail served with dessert.
My wife and I have eaten there a few times in the past. It is always excellent. Great service and food presentation. One of our favorite restaurants in Phoenix.
Visit this restaurant at least once if you live in the Valley.
Wonderful dining experience. We’ll be back!
The server we had needed to provide a little more detail as it was our first time. Food itself was stunning...Really, really good. Drinks are so.ething special as well.
Barrio Gran Reserva is hands down my favorite restaurant. My wife and I just celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary. We were fortunate enough to have our ceremony here. The staff shouldn't be called that. They are welcoming us into the home like guests and it's as if they have been waiting for you to arrive. The menu is creative without feeling pretentious and explores flavors that will leave you speechless. A modern spin on the classics including the best Mole I've ever had. (Try the Tehauna Margarita) You wont regret this choice. On Saturdays a gentleman plays guitar which creates an elegant atmosphere. Also if you love art this is a gem in the heart of Roosevelt District with multiple different murals. Ask about the meaning behind the mural in the main dining room. It's actually quite interesting.
This is one of the best dining experiences one can imagine! The tasting menu is awesome and just the right amount of food. Great people , imagination and such fun
In Phoenix on vacation. So good we went back the next day!
Very disappointing experience. The food was great but the wine was below average and the wine glasses , not acceptable. You are a 4 to 5 star restaurant-please get with the program on the same quality wine and stemware.
While some of the food here is inventive and noteworthy, I remain a bit baffled by the celebrity of both this and its main outpost. The service was eccentric at best, with uncleared tables and odd, erratic arrivals of food/drink and seeming challenge to the staff of handling a relatively small number of tables.
Barrio Cafe Gran Reserva never disappoints - food is always fabulous!
Wonderful flavors and inventive combinations of ingredients. Terrific service, too. Destination dining!
Exquisite ambiance and excellent vegan dishes. We’ll definitely be back to try vegan mole.
This is our favorite restaurant in the Valley. It is small, festive, with beautiful Mexican (high end) food flavors that you cannot find elsewhere.
Great food, drinks and service. Philip, Miranda, Brianna and AJ were awesome. Do yourself a favor and come here.
Food was great, wait staff was friendly and helpful.
Fabulous Waitress, Miranda, Truly made the evening special.
