Barrel House offers a unique farm to table experience in downtown Sausalito which celebrates local seasonal ingredients and sustainability in a beautiful setting.
Barrel House focuses on letting the ingredients shine. To this end, Barrel House supports local farmers and organic practices due to their amazing quality as well as being harvested at their peak of ripeness.
Barrel House will feature barrel aged and classic cocktails. Its wine menu highlights west coast winemakers. Barrel House will have rotating local micro brews on tap as well as wines on tap. Additionally, we will be hand crafting our own sodas with ingredients that we source at the local farmers markets.
Barrel House features furniture and woodwork that was handcrafted using reclaimed black walnut and curly maple trees. Every seat in the Barrel House has sweeping views of the Bay and an outdoor deck that sits right over the water.

Barrel House Ratings and Reviews
... and the wait staff clearly loves working there, in part because the chef and owner treat them well. The views are great from all the seats although we have favorites. High quality ingredients, imaginative menu -- and, as a Sausalitan author/speaker I often recommend to conference attendees in S.F. that they ferry or drive over to our love village and get a great view looking back at S.F. and over at Angel Island whilst dining
This is a very cute restaurant with good views and a nice concept. The menu is fairly limited and the food was average in quality and taste. All three in our party had difficulty finding something that looked appealing and what we selected, we were not real pleased with. My husband said the clam chowder was the worst he had ever had, it was thin and had a lot of bacon and little clams. The vegetarian flat bread that I got was not good at all but was one of the only vegetarian friendly items on the menu. The waitress was less than average with an indifferent attitude. Needless to say, I would not recommend this restaurant other than maybe for a drink and a view
The Barrel House: Finally, that spot has the best location in Sausalito, now there is finally a restaurant fitting of it! We had the oysters, so amazing. Everything was good from my modified cocktail to the service. We highly recommend this place, just save a spot for us again next time we are in town!
We tood the Ferry from San Francisco to Sausalito and enjoyed a lovely lunch at the Barrel House. The service was excellent. Everyone was quite friendly and helpful. Our server was very knowledgeable and helpful in making our selections. We started off with a selection of fresh oysters and they were perfect. We shared a Charcuterie platter and cheese platter. This was a very good choice with a couple of unusual but delicious components. The water view is lovely. I would definitely recommend the Barrel House for great food and service.
We went to Barrel House for a romantic meal and were not disappointed by either the food or the service.
The view on what was a clear night was spectacular, and the service was friendly and unhurried even though the restaurant was busy.
The menu was excellent, as was the quality of the food, and I will definitely go back to sample some of the other delights.
As the title suggests, reay great view of San Francisco from this restaurant. Our waiter was very friendly and knew both the food and the wine list.
The food was very average, with little imagination in its presentation. Sauces were very heavy, just not up to the cost which was priced high.
As a local, I was skeptical after reading critical reviews, plus most restaurants with views located in locales such as Sausalito aren't going to try very hard to impress one-time tourist diners. But my husband likes a view, so we went for dinner on a Saturday evening. I was thoroughly impressed! Every table has a view, the service was impeccable, and the food was delicious. I was impressed with the creative menu, the generous portion size, and the personable, well-trained wait staff. It's an upscale scene, but well worth the additional cost. I will be recommending the Barrel House to both out of town guests and local friends.
Had early afternoon plans for eating for 4. We had a perfect table by the window with great views of SF. The food was excellent. Both couples were not overly hungry, so that gladly split 2 entrees for each of us in the kitchen. They did an outstanding job, and made it a memorable day.
The view across the Bay to SFO was breathtaking. The service was excellent, the waitress was attentive without being overpowering, the food was excellent.
The ribs were nearly as good as the Slanted Door, but the view was better. It was lunch time and although fairly full the place was not noisy.
A classy spot in Sausalito. Very upscale interior with rich wood paneling.
Great view of the San Francisco skyline. Diverse menu and reasonably priced.
Unique clam chowder and a killer burger. Good reviews led us to try the
restaurant, and we were not disappointed.
An added benefit was a great server, Lindsay.
We will return.
Located in the original ferry terminal, now converted into an impeccably designed restaurant on the second floor with vista views of San Francisco, complete with floating fireplace, and a bar and restuarant that could easily be a gem in New York, The Barrel House is well worth the price tag, which can be a little expensive (We paid $30 / person for a breakfast that included a bloody mary each), but also has $1 biscuits (which are amazing!)
The bloody mary was possibly the best I've had. They let you custom design your drink with many fun options (including bacon and chili salt), and they use the finest local ingredients.
Contrary to the classy ambiance and amazing ingredients, there are many very down-to-earth options on the menu. I already mentioned the biscuits. I also had the "chef's breakfast" which was a sandwich on foccacia with ham, cheese and a perfectly cooked egg. This included a side of fries, which were a delicious surprise. My wife got grilled chicken served over mashed potatoes and gravy. There are many fancier dishes on the menu but they would have broken the bank for us (Our plates were around $15 each, and everything else was easily over $23).
The point is you will enjoy this remarkable food and amazing venue! How much you spend is definitely up to you.
Farrell house is in the heart of downtown Sausalito. Welcoming atmosphere, great place to eat or just have a drink and enjoy the fire and the amazing views. It's the food that will keep you going back. If you took away the view, Barrel House would still be the place to go. The food is fantastic everything from the appetizers to the desserts. We are lucky enough to live close by so it's on our favorites list. The staff is professional, friendly and good at what they do. Love this place!
I had read a review re Barrell house on trip advisor & as we had decided to spend a day at Saulsalito. I pre booked restaurant through Open table & we took a ferry ride over & cab back. Arriving at 12.45, it was very busy with people waiting. No problem for us with our booking & were seated at a table on the patio. If it's warm enough, I would recommend the patio although only suitable for small groups as narrow. The view is fantastic, our wait staff were friendly & helpful. Menu wasn't extensive but watching as meals for other diners came out, everything looked great. This is such a nice place to relax, some beer & wine, tasty lunch, smiling staff & awesome views of the boats & back to San Fransisco.
We biked from Fisherman's Wharf all the way to Sausalito and needless to say were in need of refreshments upon our arrival at Barrel House. The restaurant did not disappoint! The truffle fries were delicious and devoured as well as the cheese burger. Very, very good. Husband loved the specialty soda and beer selection was very good.
Barrel House offers a panoramic view of San Francisco Bay (overlooking Angel Island and numerous sailboats on the Bay, with the city in the distance). Unlike other restaurants where the view is a trade-off for the food, the food is very good. Not to be missed: tuna tartare and burrata appetizers and the truffle fries. The design of the restaurant is open and welcoming with the feel of being inside a wine barrel (a wine barrel with a view!) #recommend
It was a nice place to visit for lunch. The staff could have been a little more friendly and the restaurant could be a little more child friendly. Good varied menu but no at all extensive. I did expect more seafood, being right on the sea but what there was was delicious.
Loved the views of SF, the barrel shaped restaurant amazed my kids - decor was beautiful! Food was well presented - fish entrees are worth a try. Our favorite was the flatbread and Mary's Chicken. Cocktails are also a must try! Would recommend to friends without hesitation. They do have a cheese pizza option for kids if you need it.
This place is amazing. The bar is fantastic and the food is unbelievable. Also the view of the bay is stunning. I had the clam chowder which was the best I have ever had, however a big portion for an appetiser. The clams and everything in the chowder was fresh and flavourful. Next I had the grass fed burger with truffle Parmesan fries. The burger again was big but fantastic! Tasty meat and flavours harmonies. The truffle fries were beyond belief. The fries were crispy and not completely covered is parmesean. Overall, an amazing resteraunt that is DEFINITLEY worth a visit. 5 stars rightly deserved.
One of the best views in Sausalito from a gorgeous indoor/outdoor space. Soaring 'barreled' ceilings, beautiful wood bar, tables and finishes and enormous windows surround more than 75% of the restaurant. Service was warm and efficient and offered good advice. Menu is interesting and accessible - my beet salad and swordfish were excellent. Must go if in Sausalito.
We had the lamb meatballs which were superbly prepared. No complaints about the Risotto and Mary's Organic Chicken...they were excellent. My apple-tini was awful...they don't know how to make one. Apparently didn't have any apple schnapps. But this was one drink and I think their specialties are ale and beer.
We went to the Barrel House for a 35th anniversary dinner. While the view was great, the environment enjoyable, and the service good, neither of our dinners was memorable but both were expensive. Without significant upgrades in the food quality, we see no reason to go back.
A good place for out-of-towners to get the full impact of S.F. bay and city lights at night. Good bar with generously made drinks. The food is good, though I wouldn't say "gpurmet." In the 3 or 4 times we've been there for dinner, it's been busy. Servers did a reasonably good job, in view of the rush.
The only down side: it tends to be noisy, so while the setting's "romantic," the noise level sort of cancels this out. Also, the nearest parking is in a public lot, which is pricey and several blocks away.
We planned a day out in Sausalito and were very pleased to have booked ahead and secured a table in the Barrell Room as it was clearly the place to be. The view on the deck is amazing but we sat inside and the interior is light, modern and interesting. The food was fresh, locally sourced and great quality we really enjoyed the whole experience and will be back to sit next to the suspended fire place one evening!
Our food was very well prepared and tasty. Our server was friendly and very accommodating. Our only disappointment was that the menu consisted mainly of meat entrees. Considering the restaurant is on the bay we expected more of a selection of fish and other seafood. It was however a good experience and I will go back again.
This is my go-to for guests, because they have lots of food options, GF options and fantastic cocktails with a view. The only thing that I regret is that they close the dining room before I'm ready to leave each time, but then I can take the group over to the bar's cozy fireplace and continue the conversation there.
Dramatic view of the Bay. But after dark, the reflections of the interior lighting off the windows detracted from the view. The interior was attractive, but the "energic" noise level detracted from the ambiance. It was not a relaxing. The food was ample and very good. The service was good to very good. The wines available by the glass were rather limited in number and rather ordinary in interest.
