Barrel & Crow
I really like this restaurant. The people who work here are really nice and the bar is great with a good selection of beer, wine, and bourbon. The food selection is also really good. The only real issue I have is the noise level. The last couple of times we have been here there has been one really noisy person in the bar area and the acoustics in the bar just amplify the sound.
It was great
We had a great Sunday brunch. The server was wonderful - offered good recommendations, was friendly and timely with the service. I recommend reservations and arriving at 11 AM for brunch to avoid waiting for a table. Bloody Marys were tasty although a bit small for the price. Good food though, interesting options and overall a great brunch experience.
All the food was great. Portion sizes are not huge like most American restaurants. For the first time in a long time we didn’t have any leftovers to take home but we all left with satisfied stomachs. On the way out our daughter said it feels like we’re in Europe. I wonder if that was partially due to the fact that we weren’t carrying a doggie bag.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Bethesda and as we all know Bethesda has a plethora of restaurants! I highly recommend this place to anyone who asks. A colleague of mine asked about a nice restaurant to take his new wife to and I recommended Barrel and Crow.
The drinks and appetizers were great, but our entrees were horrible and flavorless. We couldn't even eat them, a waste of $30 for horrible steak and bland shrimp and grits. I would only recommend for drinks and appetizers. Also the fries with truffle mayo were good, but entrees not so much ):
Excellent food and flavors and one of my favorite farm to table restaurants in the area. Definitely recommend the duck tostadas, tuna taquitos, and the duck fat fries. Food is amazing every time I've been.
Went with friends. Actually wet there by accident. We thought we wer reserving at aniother restaurant. Service was superb, staff extremely ell informed, polite, and there when you needed them. Shrimp and grits was very good but not great. Fried chicken and waffles was mixed. Breat half was too dry, leg and thigh perfect. Eaffles really good. Hanga5r steak good. Wines generous.
Our waiter was great and the food was awesome!
Went for brunch. The food and vibe were great. Service was great. It wasn’t quite as “cozy” as we like for brunch, but that’s really my only complaint. They have outdoor dining, so this place might become my go-to for brunch in the spring.
The kitchen at Barrel and Crow is talented and creative. They work hard on developing the flavors and texture of every dish they prepare - we enjoyed the delicious lobster bisque special and crab beignets amongst others. The soup was rich, tasting of smoky crustaceans and spices, topped with a medley of fresh seafood, coated in a light, crispy batter. The sauces that accompanied each dish were multidimensional, balanced and elevated the dishes to another level. The service as well was friendly, informative and on a slow Wednesday night, prompt and alert B&C was a surprisingly, high end dining experience in unassuming, bar-like surrounds, but don’t let that stop you from trying it out.
I picked it for a long weekday lunch with family from out-of-town. It worked well, because the place was almost empty (therefore quiet) and we didn't mind the slow service. The food was excellent, though not quite outstanding, I would guess that the atmosphere is very different in the evenings and on weekends.
Excellent food and service
A casual but nice restaurant with wonderful fish, fabulous vegetables. Service was nearly perfect. Want to take my foodie son soon.
We were here on New Year's Eve. It was busy. The service was attentive, efficient and timely. The food was interesting, tasty and well prepared.
First time was an excellent one. Creative dishes, good service, pleasant ambiance AND good bread makes this restaurant worth returning to very soon. Sorry we didn't discover it much earlier. Bethesda offers quantity in restaurants but not much quality, especially without a lot of noise. For us, it seems the better restaurants are in the older area north of Old Georgetown Rd. Keep up the great cookin'--along with excellent cocktails and desserts--Barrel & Crow.
Best food and experience! We had the best waiter I’ve ever had in my life. Many gluten free options and knowledgeable about gluten-intolerant needs. Nice atmosphere, never felt rushed even though it was NYE evening that we went.
Loved this new find! Service was warm friendly. Food really delicious. Will be back!
Outstanding food and service.
Great meal. Yohansse's recommendations MADE the meal. We had the duck and ahi appetizers (soooo good). Entrees we had Shrimp and Grits and the Lamb bolognese....both were delicious. Great meal. Will definitely return.
The duck Brest was excellent accompanied by squash—fantastic!
Xmas eve... all god except the chartreuse board was not plentiful , but everything else was excellent
Delicious food & the feeling of being well taken care of! A very good time
The style of cooking is American comfort food - including some of Italian provenance - done with attention to presentation and quality. All dishes ordered by our party of three were tasty and enjoyable. Service was prompt and friendly but not overly familiar. A good place and one I will visit again soon.
The food here never disappoints! The staff are are fantastic!
I visited for brunch and the food was delicious. A friend and I shared the chicken and waffles which came with a side of greens (all really good!); the veggie Benedict which was the highlight; and the shakshouka which was also very tasty (and also spicy). I would highly recommend.
Great food and service
Great food. The lamb bolognese was fantastic! Service was efficient and enthusiastic!
The food Was wonderful and our waiter gave us great suggestions.
The food and customer service was great!
Very good southern cooking in a warm, woodsy, trendy space with extensive and interesting beer and wine selections. The owner was friendly and engaging after the rush died down, and she works hard to make her. Establishment successful. We will come back and there aren’t many Bethesda restaurants we can say that about.
I went there with a few friends for dinner at the suggestion of one. I can't say that it was special, but I have little to complain about either. It was comfortable and quiet enough to enjoy talking to my friends. Food was good, but not exceptional - the pear salad, a nice Spanish grenache, and the flourless chocolate cake were perhaps my favorites of the evening (the apple "crisp", could add a bit of crisp and a bit less sugar.) Staff was friendly and the waiter made good suggestions...but just had the standard need waiters seem to have these days to interrupt our conversation to ask unnecessary questions. (pet peeve)
Dined with Husband and his colleagues. Calamari appetizer was excellent. the Lamb Bolognaise was outstanding, as were the ahi tuna taquetos. Our waiter also was excellent.
Hadn’t been at Barrel & Crow in a while and was happy to find the food as good, or maybe better than it used to be. I had the scallops, which were perfect. Shared fish tacos as an appetizer. They were also delicious but a very small portion. Service was relatively absent. Understaffed that night?
Got quite loud. Food was good. Burrata is excellent, fries are yum.
From beginning to end , outstanding meal and service! My husband was looking for a wine bar in Bethesda and this place came up . Not to be disappointed- rustic decor , exceptional food without being expensive . Friendly engaging service . Will defiantly be back!
THOSE BEIGNETS ARE CRAZY GOOD! Wonderful service , Mini Tuna tacos , warm apple crisp , feels like fall. You must get the veggie Benedict- flavors are so fresh! What a treat!
The food was outstanding
I love dark lighting especially on a cozy fall evening, this was the perfect spot for our work dinner! The food was delicious, also great for cold evening.
