Barrel & Crow
It was not up to its usual good standards. The food was not great and was not plated well. One server for the entire room? Poor all the way around
It was our first time. Food is good. Service not doo much.
It was really delicious from cocktails through dessert
Fresh hurrays appetizer was wonderful
Lamb Bolognese and Rockfish entrees were standouts
Strawberry shortcake excellent
Will definitely return
Excellent service too
Exceptional food - real care taken with the preparation and presentation. A place to frequent.
I went for brunch with friends. Great mimosas. I had chicken and waffles for entree. The chicken itself is bland but manageable. I covered it in hot sauce.
Creative menu, delicious food, warm / fun / energetic ambience. Menu is short with many innovative dishes not easily accessible at other establishments.
Was a great meal with excellent service, our server was outstanding with his recommendations. Made a reservation but wasn’t needed really for a 12:30 brunch on Sunday. Only thing that would have been better was towards the end of the meal another server kept getting into our space rearranging tables and asking us to scoot back as we were enjoying the last bit of our meal. No problem being accommodating but it took away a little bit from an otherwise great meal. Maybe reserve a few larger tables for parties outside earlier in the day rather than move tables together and disturb customers who already there? Would still go back
Definitely give this place a try! We had one night in town and chose this place. Great outdoor seating for 4 people and inside is nicely decorated and comfortable. The food is excellent! From appetizers to dessert, we enjoyed it all. Our server was very knowledgeable and did a great job describing the dishes. He made excellent suggestions for those that had a hard time choosing. Overall, great place!
The food was great!!! The hostess and wait staff were very friendly and accommodating. Beautiful surroundings
The food was great, nicely decorated, but the service seemed a little unorganized. The drinks and appetizers were being auctioned off at the wrong tables. Perhaps a staffing shortage caused this? It did not detract too much, but more attention placed on getting the table right would have been nice. We will be back. Definitely!
Overall great dining experience. The food is very well seasoned. The smoked duck breast dish is superb. The pastry chef’s shortcake is also perfectly spiced. The only thing the restaurant can possibly improve in the future would be to include more local selection on its wine list.
From the moment you walk in everyone, from the hostess to your server everyone is really friendly. The cocktails and food are delicious. It is a fun, relaxing place to go for a great dinner. The one thing I am curious about, is the last few times I have been there, the server changes in the middle of the meal with no explanation.
My fourth time here, and there are reasons we keep returning. Dinner for 4 was approximately $70/person. But that included 3 appetizers, 4 entrees, 4 desserts, 9 or 10 or 11 alcoholic drinks, and at least one cappuccino for our group.
Appetizers are delicious, especially the mini tuna tacos and duck tostadas. I typically prefer a lighter filling for squash blossoms than the shrimp-corn-pepper-cream here, but they were delicately, perfectly fried. Our group ordered lamb bolognese, 2 smoked duck entrees, and the Virginia scallops, and we all cleaned our plates. All desserts were lovely. I especially enjoyed my buttermilk panna cotta.
The wait staff and friendly and knowledgeable. Excellent service.
Waiter was attentive and helpful - good service . Plates came at same time . The duck - one slide was practically raw , not medium rare - inedible. Soft shell crabs - too many flavors . Soft shell crabs are a delicacy- you want to taste them ! Also overcooked - way too crunchy - again , destroys the flavor . Pasta dish which we had before and was delicious - pasta was overcooked this time, far from al dente. The panecotta was good - needed a few more blackberries to look like something on the plate. The flourless chocolate cake was just a sweet mess. Somehow lacked flavor .
We loved our first time at barrel and crow and were looking forward to the dinner but were disappointed .
Also mid dinner room got very dark it is dark to begin with , esp with the solid barrier between the street windows and the dining room , plus all the dark paneling - and then someone maybe shut down the lights ? It was a bit wierd.
I liked the atmosphere of the restaurant and the Cajun inspired dishes were delicious. On top of that, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The manager checked on our table several times and was willing to seat us at the table we wanted - always with a smile. I will definitely return.
Great food and very friendly crew. Wonderful spot!
DELICIOUS brunch. They had one of the garage type doors open so there was plenty of fresh air and it helped with the noise level. Wonderful service and ambiance. Will be going back. :)
A friend and I met for dinner here and both enjoyed our meals (house smoked duck breast for me, trout for her). We shared a beet salad, which was not that special, and a delicious dessert--lemon poppy seed cake with fantastic house-made blueberry sorbet. I'd eaten at Barrel & Crow once before and been a bit disappointed, but this meal changed my mind. The restaurant was quite noisy on a Thursday night but we were still able to converse without shouting. Our server was lovely. All in all, an excellent experience.
Second time for lunch....another positive experience all around: friendly, helpful service, tasty food and cold draft beer! Give it a try!
The food was amazing and beautiful.
Really good food. Wish the entrees had been hotter. Drinks well mixed. Blackened salmon just wasn’t blackened.
Really enjoyed this restaurant; spent a nice quiet evening with our young adult kids before sending them off to college.
We were there on the last day of Bethesda Restaurant week, unknown to us at the time, but glad to find out! Enjoyed at our table were the Shrimp and Grits, April Chop, and Blackened Salmon entrees. For starters we had the steamed mussels, soup of the day (gazpacho) and the watermelon/feta salad. For dessert, three of us chose the chocolate torte and one the panna cotta; both were divine, and were the entree’s and the starters.
We highly recommend Barrel and Crow; wish we weren’t moving and had found this place much sooner! The staff was wonderful and very professional. Our complements to the chef!
The beignets were a lovely surprise. Everyone loved their food. We were there for brunch and there were lots of good choices for everyone.
We ate outside, as it was a nice day. Delightful. Our server, Ibraham, was excellent, albeit he did seem to have too many tables inside and outside to cover.
A return visit a must, food and service was excellent
My husband and I came here for my birthday. Our server was good and gave us great recommendations. The food came out promptly and was delicious. We will definitely be back.
Loved the rockfish and lamb bolognese! Great service. Pleasant.
Had written this place off initially, but the menu is now more varied. Plenty of fish and two (!) veg entrees. Food is very nicely prepared and presented. Loved the ahi taquitos and tender gnocchi. Interesting and delicious cocktails. And not too noisy! B&C will now be in our regular rotation.
Mussels were not fresh and many mussels were near empty when served. Rest of Food was on par with Silver Diner-but at caviar prices!
Sidewalk seating is nothing special - no real design or ambiance to the cafe environ.
Waiter was helpful with price adjustment, but seafood is something that fine dining cannot get wrong. Was unimpressed.
We loved our dinner. I thought our waiter was excellent EXCEPT that after I ordered the wine, ordered the appetizers and generally directed the waiter - he presented the check to my brother-in-law (the only man at the table) instead of me - I was really surprised that it wasn’t obvious that I was hosting. Might be something to discuss with the staff.
Loved the ambiance and the service was great. The food was fine but overpriced in my opinion.
Sat outdoors, great service, food was truly outstanding.
The Crab Beignets were amazing and the Shrimp and Grits - one of the best I've ever had!
Very good over all experience. Will definitely go back
Excellent food well prepared and flavorful.
Atmosphere was very quiet and relaxed. The food (sauces) were impeccable. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this place.
It was a rare July day with low humidity so we sat outside. The service was good but I don't think the restaurant was very crowded. Weekday lunch around 1:00 so not sure what it's like at other times. The food was excellent. I had the Lamb Bolognese with homemade fettuccine. It was so good. I also had the truffle fries with were nice. There were definitely more things on the menu that I want to go back and try. Overall I would recommend this restaurant with the stipulation that I'm not sure if the experience would be the same at night or when it's crowded.
The food was mediocre and could’ve used some more seasoning. I asked for turkey bacon and received pork bacon that was burnt. It was kinda of loud in there too so that kinda sucked!
Great food. Good drink selection. Love the ambiance. A little loud
A mix of urban contemporary and low country cuisine this is a dynamic pace. Great food the service is ah-mazing -- I love the gumbo and the chicken & waffles -- you cannot miss with Barrel & Crow
