Barrel & Boar - Newark
Beth was a great waitress. Helped make the night fun.
1st Visit to this place, food was excellent, portions were big! Prices are more than fair for the quality of food and the portions served.
Our Mothers Day visit was a hit. Even with a full house we got excellent service and very tasty food. We will be back!
Food was delicious! Great BBQ, drinks and service. One our most-favorite spots in the Newark/Granville area.
The food was great, the service was poor. We were there for Mothers Day Brunch. You could either order from the menu or go to the buffet. Everyone in my group ordered from the menu except my son. The food ordered from the menu came out perfectly, except they ran out of bacon. The waitress told me to just go to the buffet and get some bacon. The buffet was constantly running out of plates and out of food. I never was able to get the side of bacon I wanted because it was never restocked. My son had to wait about 20 minutes for them to bring out French toast to the buffet and when they did it was undercooked. We've been to this place a few times and it is always good, I just don't think they prepped very well for the Mothers Day crowd.
Food was great and the atmosphere was wonderful. The service on the other hand was not great and the buffet was never stocked with food. We had to wait 20 minutes for French toast
The food was delicious as always. Have eaten here before concert at Midland theater many times because of location and food. However, on this visit we were not happy with the time it took to get our food. They were very busy, but we arrived at 6:15 and got our food at 7:35! Salad and 3 sandwiches are not labor intensive. With the concert at 8:00, we had to eat very quickly which was not what we planned. That's why reservation was made at 6:15! There was a pub crawl going on, but those people were standing at bar drinking, not eating.
Noisy but very crowded with special events happening in the area. Love the restaurant and the food! Had excellent service.
Food was excellent, requested a secluded seat and was sit by large family gatherings was the only downside. Service was great as always. Highly recommended place to eat.
The service was top notch. The food was everything the other reviews said it was. The ribs are low in fat as ribs go and the house BBQ original sauce is very good. It was nice to have grits offered as a side that were creamy and not spicy, The only thing that keeps from giving 5 stars is the limited beer selection. They offered no porters or stouts the night we were there. In my opinion, a good beer selection is as important as a good wine selection; especially in a place that specializes in BBQ.
In town for a conference and stopped by night before for a drink. Great bartender, music and drinks so came back next evening for dinner. Again great service at the bar; good food, music, and atmosphere. A very pleasant surprise. Will be back when we’re next in Newark.
Easter with family. Had great service, great food.
Enjoyed our dinner. Food was great; except for the Brussel sprouts. We all tried them and thought the recipe needs tweaked or something. I had the crab cake and sausage, cheese and grits. Very good! Enjoyed the band also!
The music on Friday nights is amazing The food and service is always excellent.
Always great service!
Great food. Pre-concert crowd. Extremely busy. Slow service but worth it!
Brisket was dry and lacking in quantity for $18. Spicy mac and cheese was over flavored by jalapeno peppers which is not my kind of spicy. Waitress was nice and efficient since it was busy. I would not go here again.
We had dinner here before a concert at the Midland. Service was excellent as was the food.
We have been there before several Midland concerts and can always count on a great experience. The food is excellent- well prepared and imaginative. The server was attentive and made the dinner enjoyable.
Sides were awesome. Especially the greens and coleslaw. Definitely order the hush puppies! Pulled pork and smoked wings were great but disappointed in the brisket- it was dry. Good selection of beers on tap!
We were greeted very quickly and helpfully, got a great table for our group. The wait service was very good, no lack of attention and everything flowed just like we would want. We also had a few cocktails, which likely heightened our mood, but the cocktails were also excellent.
We would definitely recommend this restaurant for a friendly night out with the family, or dinner for a group before a night out. I was particularly appreciative of the gluten free options.
I've wanted to take my daughter here for several months and we finally got our plans to match! She loved the atmosphere and her dinner, fire burger! My dinner pulled chicken was beyond fabulous!
I can't remember our server's name but she was so sweet. We were there on Sunday, March 10 at 6:15. Hope we have her the next time we come in!
Place is awesome! Great atmosphere along with great music.
I love this place! I only visit Newark once or twice a year but always make a reservation for this place. The food is excellent always. We got to meet the owner, Alex, and he was nice enough to give us champagne for our anniversary!!! Can't wait to visit next year.
Pre-concert date at Midland theatre. The food was great. Service a little slow but was a very busy evening.
Will definitely eat there again.
We got last minute reservations for Saturday before a concert. That was awesome. Food was good and service was great.
My mother is a professional chef at high end restaurants in places like Vegas and NYC and absolutely loved that i brought her here!
We truly did not get to experience the restaurant. I had made reservations for for of us at 6pm. We arrived at 545 and were told that they were holding tables for a party of 55 at 630 (1/2 hr after our reserved time). We would have to wait till some other tables opened to be seated. 2 tables did open while we were waiting but we were told those also were for the party of 55. They told us that they were waiting for a certain table for us. And that table had checked out but just hadn't left yet. We didn't understand why we couldn't be seated in one of the earlier openings and the table we were waiting for be used for the party of 55. By 620 we had yet to be seated. As the bus w/ the 55 found its way to the square we knew that the kitchen would be slammed and since we were still not seated we chose to leave as we had a commitment that we did not want to be late for. Unfortunately this was all of our first impression of the restaurant. Not so great
Food was good and the price was not bad. I had the catfish and it was cooked well and tasted delicious. I decided to have the side dish special rather than fries, a roasted tomato veggie superfood mix (?). It was not very good. Our waitress seemed to not have a lot of patience for questions when I asked her if she could describe it to me. I would recommend that you make a reservation to make sure you get a table. The craft beers were excellent. It is a noisy environment, though. It doesn't have TVs or music, but it can still be very noisy. We were in a booth and had to speak loudly to hear each other.
We were visiting from the East Coast and found this place on Open Table. Superlative BBQ in a comfortable setting with upscale decor. Brisket, beans and sandwiches were excellent. Would highly recommend.
Loved the service and the food!! Our waitress was so sweet!
Excellent food, as always, good service and staff made sure our visit was pleasant and well tended to without being intrusive
Service was great, food was very good. We had ribs, burgers, appetizers, cuban sandwich - all were good. Ribs were outstanding.
We really enjoyed the music and atmosphere. Our dinners were excellent. Service was very attentive/ even with a near full house.
Pleasantly surprised with our experience. Food, vibe and live music made for a great night prior to the play.
We picked Barrel and Boar for New Year's Eve so we could take in a movie afterwards. The food was excellent and the service was quick, efficient, and attentive without being overbearing. I like being able to
choose a salad and vegetable for sides. The vegetable side was a little boring, but I added the remoulade with my crab cakes to it and it was great! My husband had the pulled pork and was very satisfied. I had the crab cakes which are very good, but could use more crab and less filler. We were able to go to the movies
in plenty of time. I definitely recommend Barrel and Boar in Newark, Ohio.
I’m a fan of the Sunday brunch. The gravy has a slight spicy flavor that you won’t get anywhere else. Pour it generously over the buscuits, eggs and crispy potatoes. The Canadian ham/bacon is gone as fast as it’s brought out. Service is as expected- attentive.
We have been several times and have never been disappointed. Big meals for reasonable prices. Live music on weekend are perfect for a nice dinner.
The food was excellent. Vegetable of the day was asparagus which was thicker than I’m used to but tender throughout. There were 8 of us and we all wanted to come back. Pork and beans was full of brisket which both guys loved. They were not busy but steady, service was great. The place is small but the tables had adequate room around them for comfort and service.
