For reservations for the Flamenco show on Friday and Saturday evenings, please contact the restaurant directly.
This restaurant has a storied reputation from years ago, but based on this experience is a shell of what it might have been at one time.
We were seated in a near empty room and after a long wait had to find the person who seated us to get a server. Perhaps we caught them at a shift change, but then why take the reservation?
Once we got the service, it was indifferent. The food was mediocre but any standard, and especially for a somewhat premium-priced place.
Wine can only be bought by the type (merlot, pinot noir, chardonnay, etc).
During our visit to San Juan, we were told this was a must visit, and it absolutely was. The paella was incredible and the drinks were awesome. Best pina colada we have ever had. Next visit we’ll be sure to go there
The food here is rated as 4 star but we found it to be a little disappointing. The lobster tail was rather dry and had little flavor. The Can Can Pork chop was more flavorful though.
We ate at the bar and found the service very slow.
I guess from the looks of it, this is the place to go if you drink Pina' Colada. Everyone (except us) seemed to be drinking them. As a result the bar was all sticky.
A must for the pina colada! Where they originated. Paella good but not memorable.
We enjoyed yet another dinner at Barrachino but this time with the entire family. Everyone had a great time and our server Radman was amazing. Great service. We will return for sure.
Great atmosphere! Great Pina Coladas! We went here post cruise, they will store your cruise luggage for free, so you can eat there and then walk around Old San Juan. Would definitely recommend this place, it is a lot of fun.
Everything looked good, we picked the paella Mariners for two, the one dish they overcooked... all the seafood was DRY, so much that they gave us a discount after we said it was dry. The snapper (separate dish) was very tasty
Does not honor reservations
Will never go there again. Took 1 1/2 hours to get food.
Terrible place all around
Food took an HOUR to get to our table. Other than that, it was great.
We had an excellent time for our Christmas Eve dinner.
The piña coladas are really amazing.
Food is well prepared and savoury. We enjoyed the paëlla with my wife and my daughters tried the pollo relleno with manchego and prosciutto and the can can.
Everything was over the top.
Our waiter was nice and efficient despite the crowd, and he took the time to intriduce the menu and chat with us.
Christmas Eve, incredibly busy. Despite the hype, pina coladas and mofongo were mediocre at best.
We had looked forward to our dinner at Barrachina for quite some time, and unfortunately we were very disappointed. The restaurant seemed to be extremely overbooked, which meant that we had to wait well past our reservation time to be seated and then what felt like an eternity to get our food. Also, after waiting in the bar for a long stretch, we were seated pretty much in the opening to the restaurant, on full display for all the people waiting in line at the hostess station. I wish we could have a do-over for that evening. We were in San Juan for a fairly brief time as part of a cruise, and there were much better ways we could have spent 2.5 hours.
Don’t waste your time and money. They cater to the tourist pure and simple. Given they are the “birthplace “ of the pina colada, they were marginal.
Food was just okay. There are fabulous restaurants in San Juan and old San Juan, this was not one of them.
We were a party of 5 and not one of us was impressed
We dined here for Christmas Eve before walking two blocks to the San Juan Cathedral for a service. Our reservation table was ready within a few minutes and the atmosphere was ideal! Our server was very attentive albeit busy and the food was very enjoyable. Nothing inexpensive in Old San Juan but expected that. Try this place...its a winner!
All of us ordered a mofongo. It was extremely filling but also very good. A couple of us wish we had shared a plate. Bring your appetite. Pina coladas are worth trying here
A must for an authentic San Juan experience. Absolutely awesome.
First time dine while we were in OSJ on a cruise late night port. The original piña coladas were extra rummy! We ordered a couple appetizers - garlic shrimp and grouper fritters - which were good but probably didn’t need since we decided to order the paella for two. The paella was so very good! Delicious meal that capped a lovely night in San Juan.
Whole snapper was over cooked dried out bland. The Pork chop can can was over cooked hard. Not worth eating. Raices restaurant is much better
Great food and awesome service. The drinks were incredible.
everything was great! The food, drinks, service, menu selection, ambiance, and price. We will definitely return
Food was mediocre. Service was slow. Prices were expensive for what you got.
Overrated. All of the food was extremely salty. Maybe we caught them on a bad night. Pina Coladas were good, but not the best we’ve ever had.
This was my second visit there. I went to celebrate my birthday with dinner and the flamingo show. Great food, show and service.
The Pina Coladas are good and not as expensive as I thought they would be. Skip the Paella, it’s mostly rice and meat with bones. Not authentic at all. It was supposed to come with chorizo and when we asked our waiter he brought out a small plate of polish sausage. Overall it was ok for lunch.
Barrachina is very deserving of all of it's high rating. The service was great and the food was delicious. We saved this restaurant for the last night of our Honeymoon and it was wonderful! We tried their famous Pina Coladas (which we don't normally drink), and they were delicious. We sat indoors where it was a tad bit cold as opposed to the cute court yard which was a little humid.
Welcoming, wonderful, delicious... perfect for a big family outing!
Delicious food, outstanding service, &, of course, the pina coladas!
The food was delicious! The pina colada’s were amazing!
Great time again at Barrachina. Milica was fantastic as was the rest of the friendly staff. The food was delicious, hot, and wonderful!
I heard about your famous pina colada and it was my birthday!
A great spot to try out local fare, and the courtyard is wonderful. It’s a bit basic but they do plantains well and it’s a historic spot. Try fried grouper appetizer. It was the best dish we had!
I was very disappointed, we had booked the reservation for my mother’s birthday. And when we got there they told us most of their desserts were out. Our waiter Hector said no to any request we asked even simple ones like splitting the check. Definitely would not recommend to anyone for a special occasion especially coming on a vacation
Went for the Flamenco show which that don't have anymore. Location was 2 blocks away from where we stayed so we just walked down the street. Server was attentive at first but then seemed to disappear as the place got busier. We had the Seafood Paella which I recommend, I had a few glasses of Merlot and my wife had the Pina Colados. Great atmosphere with the Puerto Rican vibe. Don't miss this place when visting Old San Juan.
We visited Barrachina while on vacation in San Juan! We had an excellent time, the service was prompt & friendly, and the mofongo was delicious!
My second visit to Puerto Rico and Barrachina did not disappoint! Can’t wait to return!
Glad we spent our last night in PR here. Was in town for oue anniversary from New Orleans. Delicious food, great ambiance . Felt right at home. Snapper, shrimp, pina coladas were yum
We had a reservation and had 2 hours before having to go back to ship. They could not give us a meal only appetizers during that time. They stated it was not enough time. 2 hours!! Will not recommend. It was apparent they were not prepared to service at full capacity. We had to leave.
Delicious and authentic cuisine from Puerto Rico, famous for originating the Pina Colada. It lived up to its reputation.
