Welcome to Barnsteiner's...at the corner of 1 Balmoral and Yonge st. Michelle and Herbert Barnsteiner have finally landed, and they so look forward to embracing all of you again !
With a newly renovated space, Michelle and Herbert have created a warm, chic and rustic spot for everyone to relax in and enjoy themselves, and, of course, a comfortable atmosphere to wine and dine...and yet, quite the bustling and thriving night..with our music swirling. Whether its a cocktail, a bowl of soup, lunch, dinner, office event, or a big celebration, we are here for you! See you soon...Michelle and Herbert and the entire staff @ Barnsteiner's
We came here to celebrate father’s day and were so pleased with our experience, the shared charcuterie board and roasted cauliflower dish were delicious, and each of our mains were divine (daily special risotto and pasta, wiener schnitzel and blackened haddock. We couldn’t resist the temptation to indulge in desert and that was fantastic too. We will certainly be back. Thank you for a great evening out.
The only disappointment was that the waiter did not tell us, when we each ordered a glass of wine, that the "standard serving" at dinner is eight ounces. We thought we were ordering five-ounce glasses and were never given the option so that we could be clear about our preference. Consequently, the cost of the wine was one-third higher than we expected. The phrase "standard serving" suggests this is restaurant policy. If so, it needs to be rescinded. Patrons ordering by the glass should always be offered the option of specifying the size they want. This was the only flaw in an otherwise excellent evening, though the waiter did keep asking if we were ready to order when, if he been observant, he would have noticed that we were engrossed in our conversation and had not looked at the menu.
Great food. Great atmosphere! Highly recommended.
We have been here before for both lunch and dinner. Always a positive experience. The food never has disappointed. The ingredients always fresh. Will come again.
A second birthday celebration was a positive experience at Barnsteiner’s except that it was very noisy and the wine per glass pricy. Service was excellent and very considerate, helping us as well to move tables for medical reasons. The atmosphere was high energy. Especially enjoyed the rosemary flatbread and the scallops. Quantities were generous. The drinks and appetizers came quickly and the mains not too long after. Highly recommend the brownie with pistachio ice cream. Perhaps some curtains or some other means to absorb a bit of the noise would improve on the experience.
We rated Barnsteiner's "quiet" because we were not in the main dining area. Not sure what the sound level would have been elsewhere.
Maybe a little noisy but manageable. Sitting in one of the two side rooms definitely helps.
Always good quality and good service. Menu and specials offer a good variety.
Everything good. Service a tad slow. Noise level could be a little better. But most important, food good and wine selection varied
Love this place! Have been here twice and the food was excellent both times. Hope to return
We had a wonderful time on Saturday! The food was perfect and the staff were amazing. We will be back!!
The Mac and cheese is fabulous! Definitely would have it again!
Excellent food with a wide menu selection. Excellent service.
Our dinners were outstanding. We were served by Omar and have had the pleasure to have him a few times. He is very friendly, informative, efficient and has a great sense of humour. We especially enjoyed the amazing Seafood Linguini and the roasted chicken.
I have been going here for a long time on a regular basis, it is on my list of favorite restaurants for a very good reason, that is, it is always a satisfying experience. the food, wine , service is great, and the noise level is satisfactory, and i always see the place full of happy customers. what more can one ask for.
i can truthfully say one would not be disappointed if going there for the evening, there is a reason the place is always busy.
Wonderful, charming. Amazing staff. Neighbourhood feel. Food is well portioned and delicious.
It’s always wonderful! Great food ! Very pleasant service! We love it!
It's always a pleasure dining at Barnsteiner's - one of our neighbourhood favourites! The food is consistently good, the staff always welcoming, and the atmosphere is always buzzing without being "too" noisy. Thanks Barnsteiner's for another great experience!
It was great
I have eaten at the restaurant several times but was disappointed by the food on a recent visit. lacklustre Soup arrived in bowls that were dangerously hot and when my main course arrived it was tepid at best. I still appreciate the atmosphere and the attentive service but I found the food lacking
We ate there last Sunday and had a wonderful dinner. I had their special of perch on a bed of lentils and peas, and my friend had their scallops. Both were delicious. We started with their mixed quinoa and kale salad which was superb. Our server was friendly and attentive. And the Host was her usual delightful self.
Service was slow to start but improved as restaurant emptied after 9. The space can get loud and it’s not easy to hear partner even over a small table. We ordered halibut and steak frites entrees. Both were very good and rather large portions. Excellent selection of beer and wine.
We enjoyed appetizers and a glass of wine both of which were excellent choices. Looking forward to taking more time to enjoy a full dinner and the ambiance.
This place is a neighbourhood gem, a reliable go-to.
As always, terriffic menu choices and delicious food. Squash soup special with candied cranberries was perfect. Service was just right.
Pretty noisy night. It was hard to hear other people at our table. I would have preferred to be in the south room but it appeared to not be available.
We’ll go back.
The food and service were amazing. However the manager was unprofessional, unaccommodating, snarky, and sarcastic. She didn’t introduce herself when she came to our table and instead made a dig at our ages. Dressed very unprofessionally and had a crappy attitude that put a sour taste in our mouths since the first interaction. We had an issue with the dessert as we booked the reso for a bday and weren’t told the dessert wasn’t complimentary although it took him 54 minutes to get our bills (that we asked to be evenly split in 4) and so was the food. But to be treated like crap from the person who runs the place — not worth it.
The food was excellent and fast friendly service too. I really like the diversity of the menu and the ambiance is lovely. I have never been disappointed here. The servings are generous!
The ambeance is open space and pleasant. As an appetizer my son had tuna tartar which was very good and I had lobster bisque which was nothing more than a brown watery liquid with the only redeeming quality was that it was hot. As an entree I had a Cornish Hen which was over cooked and very dry but the vegetables were fine. My son had a weiner schnitzel which he said was good. We split a triple toffee pudding which was excellent. The service was fine.
Donovan is exceptional. The food is always spot on. I love this place!!
Reliable, friendly, comfortable. Delicious.
Our favorite local haunt.
My friends and I choose Barnsteiners first.
Really good food and appreciate that modifications can be nade.
Outstanding food, lots of choices - haven’t found anything on the menu that is not a delight. Absolutely recommend!
We used to patronize the Corner House and finally stumbled on the Barnsteiner’s new venture. The food is still fabulous with generous portion sizes and the venue is much more open and modern. We stuck with the menu but the specials sounded intriguing. Will definitely be back.
A great place for special occasion or casual dining. Menu offers seared scallops to burger and fries. All delicious.
Will be going back for sure.
One of Toronto's true gems. Lovely warm atmosphere during this cold winter. All the staff lovely and owners the best of the best. Tony L
I picked this restaurant for a catch up dinner with friends. The reviews didn’t disappoint - great food - service and ambiance. Plus attention to the fact I’m Celiac was a bonus. Thank you! A neighbourhood fav for good reason.
Always good and always pricey. Outstanding food, bar , and service.
This is our goto! Love this place and the food is always amazing, and staff is best in the city
