The meal and service was great. Our only disappointment was that we had to ask for someone to serve us after we had been seated over 20 minutes. The server that took over was great.
Mediocre food and service. Way overpriced for the quantity and quality of food we received. Our service was delayed and we ended up canceling food because it was taking so long .
New to Austin - made a reservation and thankful we did. We had an amazing time. Great food, great atmosphere and environment!
Service a bit slow but loved the food except for the paella which was overcooked and dry.
Disappointing compared to other visits at brunch. The Hortelana paella was relatively meager, not well seasoned (salt), and altogether lacked the flavor we've come to expect and enjoy from our other visits. This, combined with changes to the menu, particularly the further reduced brunch menu, even made us question of the restaurant had a new chef or owner? It's a shame because we were introducing a couple of friends to Barlata today as one of our favorite brunch places in town!
My wife and I were greeted warmly and provided an excellent booth. We love tapas and Barlata did not disappoint. The octopus & potato - lata de pulpu, croquetas, Gambas al ajilio (sautéed shrimp) and finally paella barlata was authentic down to the way the rice is slightly burned to the pan. Desert was Spanish cheesecake and crema catalana were very good. Service was exceptional and we were never rushed.
Since my wife if from Jerez de la Frontera, Spain we took our family for tapas and sherry during International Sherry Week. So glad to see Barlata was one of several restaurants in USA to celebrate sherry. My wife and I have been to many, many Spanish restaurants in USA, but this is by far the most authentic. Must try tapas include: gambas al ajillo; croquetas; patatas bravas (my favorite) and of course jamon Iberico. There are many more items to choose from and a great wine list. Also excellent desserts and a good selection of sherry. The owners are from Barcelona and Madrid so you know everything is authentic. My family eats here several times per year. Highly recommend for excellent Spanish food.
Variety of the food was great! Our server was very attentive and made some good recommendations
We were greeted and shown to our table soon after we arrived. After a few questions, our drink order was taken, and arrived soon after. The food was delicious, and was delivered as each dish was completed, which meant a almost continual arrival of great dishes. Roasted cod and pork tenderloin were excellent, and some really delicious patatas bravas as well as other dishes.
Service was very good and delivered by pleasant people. The noise was solid, but not annoying or detrimental to hearing conversation. If the place was jammed, it might be a consideration. Food was varied, delicious, and nicely presented. Overall, very pleased with the experience and recommend.
Always a great place with great flavors. I felt the paella portions changed as the large size seemed smaller. Sangria always refreshing and delicious. Will always recommend and will always treat ourselves to a nice dinner.
Rachel was awesome. She made great suggestions. She was extremely personable. A really great choice. The food was all excellent. Just a great dining experience
Great tapas delivered hot and in timely sequence. We especially enjoyed the pan con tomate with Serrano ham, and croquettes.
We had a great time during happy hour trying out many of their dishes! We were happy with everything we ordered. Hubs thought it needed a little more seasoning, but I loved it! Service was outstanding, everyone helps each other out!
Food was outstanding. I went to Cataluna in September 2019. I ate authentic Catalan food there at some in the best and highly rated Michelin star restaurants. Do not underestimate the quality, authenticity, atmosphere and staff that makes this an Austin treasure. Best date night restaurant in Austin.
A little tricky for celiacs but so good I risk it
I had made reservations for my son and his wife, who were flying in from California, to go straight to Barlata as soon as I picked them up from the airport. When we were told the flight was 2 hours late, I immediately called the restaurant. They could not have been nicer and said to come on even if it was after 9 pm.
The food was delicious and the service was wonderful! We tried 5 or 6 different things, sharing all, and had a delightful evening.
We visited Barlata with couple from Venezuela who were craving tapas from Spain. And they were not dissapointed! We started with Gambas, patatas bravas, Calamari and the Tartar. Everything was excellent. We order the Arroz Negre (for me the best dish at Barlata) and the Paella Barceloneta and finish the night with a crema catalana, the membrillo with cheese and a Lustao palo cortado with an espresso. The cooking is always very consistent and service is very good. Lauren was very helpful and always attentive.
My wife and I had our wedding anniversary dinner here and everything was phenomenal. Our waiter was knowledgeable, friendly and funny and the recommendations he made were all delicious. We were given a complimentary glass of champagne which was an unexpected but appreciated touch.
My son and I are frequent guests at one of our favorite spots in town, Barlata. It has become our neighborhood tradition for special occasions and happy celebrations. Great food, great service and great team all around.
Excellent food and service. Great wine list. Loved the Godello. Gambas are a must! One of our favorite places to dine in Austin.
We have been too this restaurant at least five times before and the food was great. On our last visit the food was overcooked and poorly seasoned. There must be a new chef or something has changed in the kitchen for worst. Change is needed.
Great dinner, gracious server. Alex was our server and his personality made our experience memorable. My fiancé and I enjoyed the food + service
Great food!!! Restaurant was a little warm though, but not too bothersome.
My favorite restaurant in Austin
The squid ink risotto is out of this world
Bummed that they no longer have the rolled tapas w bechamel
Great food. Friendly, fast service. I’ll return!
We are from Dallas and we were dropping our son at UT this weekend. Food the restaurant on google maps. The food was amazing, the flavors were very interesting and appetizing. I feel this is what dinning out experience should be like. Flavors that light up your brain with wonder. Service was perfect and ambiance was nice. I could not ask for more when eating out.
It was incredibly hot and the AC was broken
Please bring back the spanish tortilla on dinner menu and add bacon wrapped dates
We love this place! Our new favorite in Austin. Highly recommend.
Food was fantastic!!! I would recommend this to everyone.
I reserved table for a special occasion (anniversary) but never they give us an special attention, not even they said happy anniversary.
Excellent and authentic Spanish and Catalan dishes with a bit of Texas flair!
Celebrated my birthday here with family. We love coming here, not only because my wife is Spanish, but because it is the most authentic Spanish restaurant we have found. The tapas are first rate, especially the gambas al ajillo, the patatas bravas, the jamon cruquetes, and the shishito peppers. They also have a selection of pintxos from the Basque region of Spain which are delicious. Excellent wine list and cold Estrella Damm beer. Our server, Brandy C was fantastic and we enjoyed talking with the owner, Daniel about Spain. Life is good at Barlata. If you like authentic Spanish tapas, or if you have been wanting to try authentic Spanish food, go to Barlata.
The food was very, very good. We could have eaten twice as much but would have needed to sleep there for the night.
First time and we loved the vibe. Food was delicious.
No iced tea? What?
I have been here a few times and wasn't exactly enthusiastic about the place- I thought it had some good items and some meh items-I have to say the food has definitely gotten better. The shrimp & octopus ceviche, oxtail, lamb kabobs, and brussel sprouts were some of the highlights and their frozen Watermelon cocktail was off the hook!! Service was very good too! I will definitely be coming back.
Double birthday dinner for our daughter and one of our sons. This is a great place for authentic Spanish food and we come here a few times per year since my wife is from Spain. The tapas are very authentic and well prepared. Some of our favorites are gambas al ajillo, shishito peppers, patatas bravas, croquetas de jamon, and, of course, jamon Iberico. They also serve several types of Pintxos (tapas for all the non-Basques). Their paellas are also very good, as are the desserts. Great specialty drinks and a nice wine list. Only down side of this visit was that they were out of Estrella Damm beer. Our server, Rachael, was fantastic. Very attentive, personable and a great sense of humor. This is a great place for anyone interested it trying authentic Spanish tapas.
