Awesome staff! Very friendly. Food was very good. Great location
Went early for happy hour and enjoy a nuce day in Oakland. Wasn't disappointed. Very tasty tacos and bruschetta appetizers. And the sangria was very good as well. And got to watch the ncaa final four game as well! Nice.
Good and simple ingredients creating great food. Great place to see the lake and soak in the Oakland vibe.
Had Sunday brunch here. Mohammed was an awesome server. Food was very good.
We sat in a booth by the bar. it was a bit noisy but fun! The mood felt cozy and intimate. We shared some great appetizers during happy hour including the meatballs and the tacos. Everything was great! I had the sangria. It has brandy in it, which was an added delight. The menu is full of choices for all tastes, including gluten free pizza and pasta options! I had the gluten free pesto pizza! It was great! Overall, we had a great time catching up with friends over a delicious meal! The service was appropriate and helpful in navigating happy hour and the menu!
First time here and had the best experience! The ambience, food, energy, service , view, and recommendations were all so satisfying. Thanks so much Barlago!
We had a great time dining at Barlago. Just some friends getting together for a nice evening dinner/drinks. Vince, our waiter, was fantastic. He was very attentive, informative about the menu, and just a great positive energy...which added to the enjoyment of our guests. The food was very tasty, nice portions, and delivered promptly. The only down side was that we were looking forward to sampling their deviled eggs, but they were out that day. However, overall, a great experience. We will be returning soon for Happy Hour.
Good was fantastic, service quick and attentive and it was kid-friendly!
Amazing food and drinks, able to accommodate a large party last minute. Love this place!
Barlago never disappoints...and it shows - they are pretty much always busy. GREAT service, AWESOME food and drinks - the atmosphere is perfect for a date night or just hanging with friends. Definitely a neighborhood gem.
We brought out-of-town friends to dinner at Barlago and had a wonderful experience. The cocktails were excellent as was the food. I had the raviolis and they were delicious. Our server Allie was friendly, courteous and prompt with our drinks and dinner.
Food was good. Service was a little disorganized. We were a large group and the annoying part that the wait staff kept dropping the dirty dishes into a bucket that was placed right behind our table. It made a huge clattering noise every 10min and was way to loud. They need to look for a better location.
Also our waitress was really nice but she seemed overloaded with work and kept running off, leaving us yelling after her for a plate or other extras.
Food was lacking a bit of flavor.
Salmon was bland. My carbonara had soft mushy noodles.
Most irritating part was that the waitress knew that I had made a reservation and she placed another couple on the other side of the glass (outside) where we were sitting inside and it was uncomfortable due to the couple “making out “ in front of us within a foot away.
Parking was very difficult and we had to drive around the block a couple of times. Once seated we waited a long time before anyone waited on us....easily 20 minutes. However, once we commented that we needed to be out of the restaurant by a certain time, the servers saw to it that we were. Two in our party had burgers and they thought they were pretty good. Two of us had pasta and we wouldn't order again. It's a beautiful location right across from the lake.
Great food. Waitstaff very helpful.
We enjoyed our first visit at Barlago. We met two friends who were newbies also.
We all enjoyed our entrees. All dishes were well prepared, fresh ingredients and enjoyed by all.
Food was OK and a good value for the area. The web site suggests there is a patio and dogs are allowed. The patio is actually the sidewalk. They should clarify that it's not a patio. It's a few odd tables and a rail with bar stools. Fine for 1 or 2 people, but not good for more than that.
Large party for a birthday
We were expecting to eat lunch here and try the prix fix menu during Oakland Restaurant Week. Unfortunately, Barlago was not participating for lunch so after careful consideration, we stayed and ordered something frome their regular brunch menu. I had a bloody mary and the veggie skillet. Unfortunately, I didn't know that the bloody mary would include a piece of chicken sausage in the garnish. Since I do not eat sausages (because they usually have a pork casing), I requested a newly made drink without the meat. They were very accomodating. My veggie could have been excellent if my broccoli wasn't overcooked. Other than that, it was good.
We sat in a room off of the bar and main dining area. It was bizarre. It was 2018 Oakland Restaurant Week Prix Fixe Menu for $30. For Appetizer, I had the Shrimp Basil Bruschetta - the bread was soggy, not crisp, shrimp tasted old. For Salad I had the Mixed Green - this was excellent. Entree - Salmon with asparagus and white beans - it was just okay. The first plate was not even luke warm and not edible. I sent it back and the second plate was hot. It was not memorable. Service was great. Good place to go on a date.
Barlago is one of our local favorites. We eat there at least once a month. The food is always tasty, the staff always friendly and accommodating. Our six-year-old goes everywhere with us and we always have a good experience with her at Barlago while enjoying grown-up fare and drinks. The cocktail menu is creative without being precious. Our daughter is leery of public restrooms but likes the one at Barlago because it is quiet and has a purple light. Everybody wins.
By far the best value for Oakland Restaurant Week. Delicious food and lots of choices. Always a fun place.
We came for restaurant week and the food was so great for the price! I don’t mind coming back and paying full price for the dishes we ordered. It was my second time here and everyone else’s first time and no one had any complaints.
I wish I remembered our waiter’s name but we was absolutely pleasant. He even recommended a great beer to go with the food. Thank you thank you! He called everyone by “Sweetie” if that helps pinpoint who is he.
Went to Barlago as part of Oakland Restaurant Week and it did not disappoint. Had two pieces of Bruschetta, a generous Caesar Salad and Short Rib for $30. My dining companions opted for the Pasta option for $20. Great drink menu and relaxing vibe across the street from Lake Merritt.
When I arrived I realized the modification to my reservation did not go through. The hostess was very sweet and accommodated my additional person without any fuss. The food was fabulous as well as the service!
Great food, service. Nice location near Lake Merritt. Loved the French toast.
We had a reservation for 8 at 7 pm for a family group. Over the course of the day our plan fell apart and we showed up with 6 people at 5 pm. They were so gracious about it, they got us in right away and the service and food were excellent. We had a blast.
Barlago was absolutely amazing. Food was delicious. Ambiance was excellent and our server was the best. Highly recommend it. Perfect for group dining.
Great italian food, cocktails, with a view of Lake Merritt. Wished we had gotten there in time to sit on the front patio under the heaters, but there was plenty of room inside.
Servers were overwhelmed. We couldn’t get refills. Server forgot to bring the salad. Everyone got served except for one person so we were eating while one person had to wait for his food. I suggest you get more servers to help. Don’t be cheap. Hire more wait staff.
Because the staff was overwhelmed. 20 minutes to get our drinks. Appetizers and main dish came out of the same time.
This was my second visit, service was great, but they messed up our order. Bad timing...by time the mix up was fixed...we were full on other items, couldn't eat all main meal..but they made it right...our wait person messed up..
The service was good--friendly staff and pretty efficient. The food, though, was only OK. As Italian food goes, I'd rate it as pretty mediocre. The Brussels sprouts were boring and the seafood pasta was bland. But, I guess that's why they still had room for a party of 6 on an hour's notice on a Friday though. The really good Italian restaurants in Oakland were full.
this is a perfect restaurant for families. Lots of room to move around. The staff went all out to accommodate our needs of switching tables; there was a mix-up on the happy hour offer but our waitress was so kind and available.
Restaurant people choose a great table. Wait staff personable and readily available. They did not rush our meal. It was clean and well-lit. Will return and try some other dishes. Job well done.
The food overall was pretty good -- we loved the mussels, and my chicken Piccata was tasty, though the portion was small, especially considering the $21 price. We also shared a Caesar salad which was average. The dressing was overly creamy and quite ordinary. My husband had the seafood pasta which he said was good.
The service was good. I realize now, after reading some of the other reviews, why our server was very concerned about the order that food was brought out. She really wanted to make sure she was bringing out our items in the right order and that the timing was ok.
Overall, it was good-very good but with so many delicious restaurants to choose from, hard to say we will be back unless we were looking for an outdoor dining experience with lake views.
We had an excellent time and the food was delicious. Our server (Cynthia) gave us outstanding service, she was kind and very attentive to our every need. She even answer some questions in Spanish to some of my family members that didn't speak English. Great Service!!
Service this time was less than attentive; I had to ask for drink refills. The food, however, was good, as always. It's average but still good. I had the meatballs as an appetizer and ravioli as an entree.
