Great food , fun atmosphere , nice service. Very pricey.
Exactly what we needed start our trip to Boston. Lobster, family and classic Boston harbor ambience
My wife and I had the Mixed Crab Bowl and it was fantastic.
Though reservations were made and occasion stated; no special mention was made___ waitress was indifferent and we had to beg for the heater to be turned on....overall; it was a highly underwhelming experience for a Boston fare.
Great location. Food was delicious. A little too noisy
Why would anyone go there when they confirm reservation on Open Table and you grab cab to restaurant only to find they have entire place closed that evening for private party. 10/9/17
If they can not update open table then why would one go there and waste a cab fare and have to grab another cab to much better restaurant!
The hostess there could not have cared less. An indication, in my opinion, most likely of the type of service if this is their best foot forward.
We love this restaurant. Roasted lobster is the best! We have never seen this on any other menu and we travel all over the world. We always visit this restaurant each time we are in Boston. It is on the water; friendly and vibrant. Casual yet great food!
Perfect lively place for a special celebration or girls night out.
Great place to meet up with visiting friends and family, if they are looking for a typical Boston seafood locale.
Read reviews so did not book at busy times, ate lunch time on Tuesday, so not overly super busy. Food, Cocktails, Beer, Staff, Food were excellent. Have ate here before 5 years ago as we live in England but worth the booking and would eat here a lot more if "Only Closer" !! Hopefully see you again in the near future.
We went, based on a recommendation, celebrating our anniversary expecting a nice dinner. All the seating is picnic tables and we were placed in the center of the restaurant. A reservation was really not necessary at 5:00 on a Wednesday. The waiter came to take our drink orders, a local beer and a bloody mary and then came back to let us know they were out of the house made bloody mary mix. Ordered a dark & stormy instead and the waiter came back to let us know they were out of dark rum. Seriously, no bloody mary mix or dark rum at a bar on a Wednesday at 5:00pm?? Had them make the drink with light rum instead. Waiter then took our food orders, both lobster dishes at market price (not sure what market they were buying at, other area restaurants were much less expensive at market price). Another loud, drinking group was seated at part of our table. Did not see waiter again until after well after food was delivered, he never even came by to check on our drinks. Overall, not the best experience, poor service and high prices.
The food was amazing!! We made a reservation for water side dining but that did NOT happen. we had to sit by the road/walkway. Service was SLOW and disinterested but the food was GREAT..
We went to the Barking Crab specifically for the 10 lb lobster, as we always do when we have company who like seafood. It's fun to watch the expressions on the faces when the lobster is brought out, and it's fun to eat the it. Ames for great conversation. The lobster I meat is sweet , and tender, and we have never been disappointed. The service this last visit was not the best. The waiter forgot our fries, and did not seem too interested in keeping our drinks refilled, unfortunately it cost him a larger tip.
This is the place in Boston for lobster or crab legs. You order by the pound and get the freshest available seafood. Nothing fancy and the prices are reasonable. Always packed, so a reservation is a must. Don't go to Boston without trying this place!
Dry, expensive lobster roll and very poor service.
Awesome crab!!!! Great Cioppino too. Parking is horrible though and the lots around the area are way over priced.
Great place. Good food. Cute, happy, and friendly servers.
I suggested we go to the Barking Crab with some friends, as I was a bit of a regular five years ago, when I was based in Boston, but was rather disappointed: the music was so loud, carrying a conversation proved a complete challenge. There was no indoor seating as it was a weekday, and no alternative to keep us warm, regardless of how unexpectedly cold an evening it happened to be. The receptionist was outright condescending and showed no sympathy whatsoever. Luckily the food was as good as ever and our server a really hard worker. All in all it catered for a different experience to what it once did.
Great food love the lobster mac and cheese and the lobster roll. We sat next to the water on a pretty day it was a fun afternoon
fresh seafood and crab!! Great options and platters for groups. Its messy and hands on, they get you prepared with everything you need. Dig in and eat some great seafood!
we were looking for a waterfront restaurant with fresh crab and a great atmosphere and that is exactly what we got
Disgusting. We were sat at a bench and my dad went to sit next to me and they told him he wasn't allowed. he hd to sit across because it was community seating (which made it even worse). Then we asked if we could atleast switch to a table that was near the water and the host said no and walked away. Our server was only interested in getting us in and out which made us feel rushed and the food tasted like i was cooked that morning, and then put in the microwave to be served. Will not be returning.
A little frustrating-I feel like I might as well not have reserved a table. It was our last day vacationing in Boston, so I booked a table a couple days in advance so we had a set time and didn't have to wait with our 4 kids. We arrived about 15-20 min early and I checked in with the desk. They said they would text us when the table was ready. We walked around a bit and when we didn't hear back, went back to check at our scheduled time. They had completely forgotten about us, and on top of that, seated a party of 10 right in front of us (they had arrived the same time as us, without a reservation, when we checked in the 1st time). We waited another 20 minutes to be seated after that, so all in all 40 min before we were seated. Not to mention it was raining and there wasn't much close to entertain the kids. Super fun. The food was decent, but not 'blow-your-mind'-I'll admit I was a bit jaded after the wait though. This restaurant came highly recommended from family that had taken their kids there before because they have a kids menu.
It was fun, but I miss the rocks that they used to give you to crack the crab in addition to the usual crackers. It was still good food. Very loud early 2000s rock music blasting. Bar was packed. Drinks were strong. Service was adequate. Good place for fun casual, but pricey meal. Not a good place if you want to talk.
Barking crab is a very fun, lively place if you're looking for a hopping bar-restaurant scene. If you're looking for a place to have my type of conversation with dinner-this is not it. Food is expensive but really just mediocre. I had the lump crap roll which was very bland. Clam chowder was ok. Fried shrimp basket was heavily breaded but ok. I guess it's more about the hopping bar scene on the waterfront which was not what we were looking for that night.....
Best seafood. Really good clam chowder. Oysters are very small but good fresh flavor (no crackers) 10lbs. Lobster is amazing.biggest lobster I've ever seen. Burgers and fish and chips are good too. Server was very attentive. Music is a loud but the view is great. Drove from Florida. This is a must stop and try if you never have. Easy to get in with no wait around lunch time.
Barking crab is one of our favorite Boston experiences. We highly recommend it if you're looking for the best seafood in Boston!
Unique setting, quality seafood specialties set this place apart. A must-do when in Boston.
This was a horrible experience. I made a reservation the day before and received a confirmation. When we arrived the host couldn't find a reservation and then asked me all
My information again including my phone number. I found this odd. He then pointed to seats near the end of the bar area..it was jammed and certainly no room for my boyfriend and I. The host walked away and we seated ourselves to a large picnic table. The waitress that came overwas so rude and had a attitude and told us the host had to sit us and if it got crowded my boyfriend would have to move to the other side of the table and she walked off. No asking if we would like something to drink etc. I plan events and entertain clients and this one establishment we will never frequent nor would I ever recommend. I calledto speak to a manager 10 minutes after we walked out and received a voice mail. I left amesssage and no one bothered to return my call. Clearly they don't care about patrons .
The food was very good, however the service was a disappointment. We showed up 15 minutes early to get a waterside seats. Because the person who reserved was not present they said NO. The service attitude was very abrupt and not at all accommodating. We all agreed (six people), that the staff was being influence but the managers business practice, he/she is definitely setting the tone and attitude of their staff.
Get location, good food....it's stops there!!!!
Very disappointed in the Barking Crab. My parents came in to town to celebrate the 4th of July and we went to the Barking Crab on the 3rd hoping to have a fun dinner on the water. Instead, my mother received steak that was not cooked and I received a lobster roll that had shells in it. To make matters worse, the service was terrible. I asked ten times to get water and we never received it. I ended up having to go to the bar to get water. Secondly, our waitress was not apologetic at all and did not offer to remedy the food situation. She was very rude and an awful server. I will never go here again and do not recommend it to anyone.
