'To those of us who work a few blocks away, the opening of Barcode, in the former Fourth Estate Grille space near 17th and L streets NW, qualifies as big, huge, stop-the-presses news (at least as far as our happy hour options are concerned). Gone is the casual bar-and-grill vibe of the old place; in its place comes LED lighting, brushed steel surfaces, dark-wood paneling, lounge seating and communal banquettes. A set of turntables stand by the front door, as if waiting for a passing DJ to set them in motion. It makes sense to see them, because the bar is run by the DC Hospitality Group, which also oversees Lima and UltraBar.' - Washington Post. Come enjoy an after work drink, stay for dinner and enjoy the scene.

Barcode Ratings and Reviews
My friend and I drove from out of town to enjoy a night here. We called 2 hours prior to reserve a table and was told that we could not reserve after 10pm because there was an event going on there but she said that we were still welcomed there. 5 minuets after arriving and paying a cover charge, we both noticed that the place was full of individuals of the same gender. This sparked a concern for us so we asked one of the workers what type of event it was and he replied in a laughing manner “it’s a gay event”. No shade to the LGBTQ community but as two single women, a gay event was the least of our expectations. You would have thought that the young lady on the phone would have considered explaining exactly what type of event it was or even the bouncer could have said “Ladies are you aware of the type of event this is?”.. NOPE, there was no consideration at all. They just took our money and let us be bamboozled. After asking for a refund of our cover charge and our drinks that we were unable to finish, they told us no we could not have a refund. We were so annoyed smh. I am giving this establishment a bad review because there just was no consideration at all and they did not assure us that this would not happen again. All we wanted was to enjoy good food, drinks and music smh.
Nice casual dining experience - food was surprisingly good (steamed mussels in wine particularly delicious)! Beer & wine at reasonable prices! Lobster role was very good - they claim to get fresh seafood daily and it tasted like it! Overall nice experience - not too flashy but good stuff,
Barcode is a nice place to stop after work to enjoy a bite to eat and a few drinks. The room itself is not comfortable, but it is what it is. They have great happy hour specials which is why it is busy from 5 to 7. Although a bit loud, it is a nice place to meet friends and gather.
Me and my wife celebrated our anniversary. We really enjoyed one a nother at Barcode great!!!!! atmosphere the service was fast and professional. We put in a order to go and forgot and left, we got a block away and realize that we left the food. As we turned to head back we seen the waitress coming out with our food looking for us. Wow!!!!!! Awesomeness!!!!!
It is surprising how good the food was for this type of restaurant/bar. It appears to be just bar food but is really much more. We were the oldest people in there by at least 30-40 years. The place seems to be the go to for 20 and 30 somethings. It was extremely loud and just a jumping happy hour scene.
Our server, Mousa, was a delightful guy. He knew the menu very well and was very helpful. Our food arrived quickly and was well prepared. The Avocado salad was excellent and we enjoyed the Spinach Artichoke dip for starters. We ordered the Steak Frites and the Nicoise Salad. Both were delicious and served just as requested. People around us had ordered pizza (1/2 price pizza nite) and they looked like we need to make a trip back to try them. Thanks, Mousa for making our evening even better.
Generally the service was fantastic and happy hour specials are grand! However the food was just okX the calamari appetizer was quite good but I thought there was a little something missing with the chicken and waffles. Maybe the batter on the fry was too heavy? Also French tips pasta tasted like airline food. The sauce was very unremarkable. Great waitress though! Would recommend for happyhour.
The bathrooms need to be cleaned and upgraded.
This place makes a horrible first impression. The entrance is hidden by very worn outdoor furniture and umbrellas and unrecognizable from the welcome entrance pictured on its website. The inside is no better: torn and tattered leather seating, huge chunks of drywall missing in places, and overall drab interior. It clearly shows a lack of interest on the part of ownership and management. As you ponder the menu, it makes you wonder what the kitchen looks like and if the same lack of interest will be present in your dish. The server was also mediocre; barely seen throughout our service. Fortunately, the food is good. I had a seafood pasta that tasted delicious. However I don't know that I'll be back. I'm just too afraid that the same attitude toward the decor and ambiance holds true for the kitchen, food safety and prep.
