About BARcelona Tapas Restaurant
COME SAVOUR THE BOUNTIES OF SPAIN! In the heart of Clayton, this Spanish translation of "a neighborhood bar", an Authentic Spanish Tapas Bar is always busy with people at the bustling Bar, the church pew lined dining room, outside on the back deck or on the Central Avenue Sidewalk. The walls are bright saffron and crimson with teal accents and just like in Spain, the whole original Serrano Hams, dried salt fish and strings of red peppers frame the busy open kitchen. Bring your friends in for a glass of Sangria to share the gossip of the day. As the Sangria gets the juices flowing, you will want to enjoy some of the many small plates (Tapas) Here you get the true Spanish Fried Artichokes with Romesco sauce, baked Goat cheese melted in tomato sauce, grilled Beef tenderloin Pinchos with Cabrales cheese, peppered Tuna in a red wine and balsamic reduction or plate of Serrano Ham, Mahon Cheese and Spanish Olives. This intimate Tapas Bar can be quite rambunctious on crowded weekend night

BARcelona Tapas Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
mediocre food, same service. I made reservations based on tripadvisor but was disappointed. the lights in the restaurant flickered all the time, the light was dim, the restaurant seemed grimy and not well-maintained. we sat next to the bathroom and the door to the basement - once the waitress opened the door to the basement I got a glimpse of the dirty wall. ugh..
the shrimps were undercooked, the beef was tough, the churros overly sweet. the olives were good. white sangria ($5) did not have almost any alcohol but the whole glass was full of ice.
overall, it was a big disappointment and will be more careful next time when selecting recommendations from tripadvisor.
Barcelona is our go to Tapas restaurant in St Louis. We love the bar / restaurant for its trendy ambiance and good food and drinks. On this visit stand out dishes were Bacallao, salmon and mushrooms. They were spot on. We didn't care for the Spanish sausages, croquettes - which seem to be missing ham, and the mojito which tasted of tonic water. Shouldn't a mojito be muddled sugar, lime, and mint with rum? Perhaps it was a different take on the classic mojito because they remade the drink and it came back tasting the same.
Even though we were disappointed with some offerings there were others that were good. Overall the full experience was a slight disappointment as we've always been happy in the past and expected the same .
First time here...and I will be back!
Thoroughly enjoyed the variety of small plates we ordered at this friendly casual spot. Excellent assortment of Spanish style tapas. Also had the paella, which may have been short on seafood but still had an excellent taste.
Definitely worth a try.
I was part of a group of 6. One couple (there were 4 of us singles) generally prefers to order for themselves; the rest of us were open to sharing. Our waitress helped greatly with determining how much to order for ourselves and for the table. All our food was very good with the exception of the beef tenderloin. Only mine was cooked as ordered: rare. The medium and medium-well orders were under-done. One was sent back. Although mine was cooked as ordered, it was tough. Tenderloin should never be tough if not overdone. We all look forward to returning.
Two friends got their food and finished it before we had to ask for l where my food was. They did have a large party come in but it was a little strange that I sat there hungry while others were able to eat and completely finish their meals. We did get dessert comped and it really wasn't the server's fault. It was just a rather frustrating experience for a first time there.
Disappointing experience. Brought friends from out of town and was a bit embarrassed. Service was terrible. Waitress repeatedly asked which tapas we had ordered. Drink orders had to be made three times with different people before the (watered down) drink arrived. One of our plates came out much later than the rest. Tuna was not fresh. Waitress spilled water on the table and my son's leg. Used his napkin to wipe it up and then asked if he wanted a new napkin rather than just bring one. We had two large 20 year olds with us and they stuck us in a table against the wall rather than a table with open sides (which was available). Unlikely to return.
I've been here several times in the past. We had an early reservation. The food was very good as expected. Atmosphere is always fun and lively. For whatever reason, the servers were not very interested in serving--like when they act as if it's an inconvenience to be pleasant and courteous. Maybe it was an "off" night.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in St. Louis. I will never hesitate to go here for a bite to eat or a drink with friends. It works great for meat-eaters and vegetarians. So many tapas options that you can always try something new, and so far, everything I have tried has tasted great. They're all a decent size as well! Honestly, it's a fantastic restaurant with a great vibe, and it feels so authentic and fun! Definitely check this place out.
Hadn't been in a couple of years and it wasn't as good as it was the last time I went. The food came out quick but the fried foods were cold in the middle and looked as though the grease was dirty. We didn't like the last plate and the waitress was nice enough to take it off the bill. We appreciated that but the food wasn't worth the money.
My friends and I went to BARcelona for the Clayton restaurant week promotion and it was fairly lackluster. Service was good and the place was energetic, but the food was not anything to get excited about. The appetizers (salad and bean soup) were pleasant, but the beef tenderloin was chewy and didn't taste fresh and the paella was a bit watery and mushy. The churros that we ordered for dessert were also slightly undercooked in the center. All in all, this place is ok, but not particularly impressive.
We were huge fans of the now defunct Modesto and have always considered giving Barcelona a try for tapas. They did not disappoint. The restaurant is vibrant, the food was excellent - probably one of the best mushroom dishes ever - the wait staff was wonderful. It is very loud so maybe not the place for an 'intimate' dinner, but fantastic none the less. We will be returning.
We had a wonderful time! We went for my birthday. I had asked for a quiet spot, but there was live music. We ended up outside, but it was perfect. It wasn't too loud and the weather was nice that night. Our waitress, Julie, was helpful and polite. We tried the watermelon salad ( special) and loved it. We loved the unique options on the menu. Everything was delicious. It was exactly what I was looking for on my birthday. Finally, a restaurant where I could sit and enjoy. No rushing. The food didn't come to fast or too slow. It was perfect.
We made a reservation, and went to BARcelona! We were greeted nicely and seated. We began to peruse the menu, and a server approached our table. She apologized profusely, while explaining the kitchen closed right as we were seated. We were quite famished, so we were forced to leave and try another restaurant. I'd go back, but I'd recommend going early if you wish to eat.
I was pretty disappointed. The menu looked great, but the food and drink execution was subpar. We had the seared tuna, salmon, empanadas, meatballs, cauliflower and warm queso de cabra. The tuna was good, but the sauce was overly sweet- it really didn't need much to make it a good dish, the sauce made the dish worse. The salmon was a decent cut, but not good enough to stand on its own, it had no real flavor. The empanadas were solid standard street empanadas, with less grease to them- so pretty good! My dining partner had the meatballs and enjoyed those. The cauliflower really had no flavor- and the pine nuts carried the dish. The queso de cabra alone was good, but the sauce that it was served with was uninspired.
