Barbuzzo Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Barbuzzo never fails to disappoint. It is great for small groups because you can all order different small dishes and everyone can try everything. The food was amazing (it always is). Just book early if you plan to go - it's very hard to get into this place - it's that good!!
There were 5 of us for restaurant week and we chose Barbuzzo's by accident.:) We liked the room and especially liked sitting near where they have the food on the counters which we could see and made us very hungry. Our waiter gave us time to decide maybe a little too much time. The food was great, my chicken a bit dry. LOVED THE KALE SALAD on top of the beets and cheese. I could eat it every day. I don't know if it is on the regular menu but it should be. Everyone loved their desserts! Restaurant was a bit warm and I was't thrilled about the chairs. Overall very good experience and we will go back.
This is my second time at Barbuzzo, and again, they impressed me with their wonderful food. This was restaurant week, and the menu offered was varied and original. We shared each other's meals and all the dishes were well executed and a feast for the tastebuds. The restaurant is small so things are a bit noisy and cozy, but the quality of the meal makes it so worth the visit. It was a culinary experience, and I will be back again! My compliments to the chef and staff...
From the first crostini to the last bite of budino, it was a nuclear fission of flavor. First course: the beet and kale salad was on point and the pork skewer was an other-worldly combination of wood smokieness and peppery heaven. The main course: pan seared gnocchi...textural perfection, pleasantly soft center with a beautifully achieved crispy surface on top and bottom. The swordfish was cooked to perfection and accompanied by an olive and artichoke cous-cous relative, wow was it balanced like a Niagara Falls tightrope walker! Dessert: obviously had the salted caramel budino. Salted. Caramel. Butterscotch. Touch of dark chocolate. Yes. Yes. Thank you.
Everything was delicuous and I would definitley recommend Barbuzzo. They have some unique menu options and everything I have tried in the two times I dined there was amazing. Some standouts were the Sheeps Milk Ricotta, Pan Seared Gnocchi, and of course the Caramel Salted Budino. Only drawback is that the tables are so close togehter you feel like your dining with the people sitting next to you but it's worth it for the amazing meal!
We had the Restaurant week dishes. They were great. The tables are a little cramped but not uncomfortable. Service was great. Nice with the open front of the building. The tennant upstairs had a sma;; kitchen fire so we were treated to a Philadelphia Fire Department light show for a short time. It was good for a chuckle. The fire alarm went off several times and I was amazed. Nobody even blinked even though it was an annoying sound. We will be back and will reccomend it to our friends. The desert of the salted carmel budino was an absolute gem to end the night.
This is our third time at Barbuzzo and the food is really delicious. The restaurant is very small so be prepared to be crowded, but it is part of the ambiance. Our only problem (and same problem at lots of restaurants) is that the restaurant allows people to eat at the "bar" so the diners (like ourselves), with reservations cannot get a cocktail. Barbuzzo actually recommends you to go somewhere else because they don't even have enough room to stand. I don't want to go across the street or around the corner to find another bar, just to wait for my reservation. (that I had to make a month in advance by the way) The entire bar was full with "diners" so no drinks could be gotten. This will probably keep us from going again.
My husband and I went here for our wedding anniversary and we were so glad we did! The Lardo pizza was amazing. He ordered the octopus and it was soooo tender and delicious. I would recommend going the Barbuzzo for any occasion. Our waitress was extremely attentive and knowledgeable. I can't wait to go back.
Overall disappointed after rave reviews. Many dishes have pork although most can be prepared without ...and the menu doesn't really capture a Mediterenean flavor as the restaurant is billed. We sat outside: inside seemed dark and wanting. Pizza was out or this world; no other of 6 dishes that we ordered excited us much.
Very popular place; very good food. We got the cured meat board (salame, soppressata, chorizo, serrano ham with accompaniments) followed by a margherita pizza and casarecce pasta (hen of the woods mushrooms, arugula, lemon-walnut pesto) and that was plenty for two of us. The food was delicious, but the restaurant was so dark that we couldn't really see the menu. Take a flashlight if your eyes are less than perfect! By mid-meal, our eyes had adjusted, but that was too late to help with the menu. The restaurant is also very crowded and very noisy. Great fun, and delicious, but not calm or peaceful.
We enjoyed our tapas style dinner here. The octopus salad was to die for. Hands down my favorite item we ordered. The cheese board was delicious, but the portions could have been bigger and served with more bread. The flank steak was superb and I thought it was awesome that our server took note that I was pregnant and offered some fun non-alcoholic drink options. The basil lemonade was excellent! I cant say i enjoyed the squid ink pasta so much, although the sauce was excellent for dioping bread into. The budino for dessert was a little too sweet and too salty, but very interesting. My husband enjoyed the beer selection and the espresso was delicious!
Great food and so much fun to share small plates with a group of friends. From the simple (pizza) to the sophisticated, lots of
great tastes and textures. All brought out as prepared, so nice and hot. So much more fun than just one entree or appetizer each!
Loved the ricotta appetizer and the arrancini. Decent wine, good, fast service. Uncomfortable seats!
Im thinking they just had an off night. Service, ambiance, scene etc was awesome.. everything was fantastic but someone in the kitchen was heavy handed on the salt... everything was extremelt salty. BUt Im sure this was just a mistake.. because this place ALWAYS is great.. Id recommend it
The food was fantastic!! Our waitress was under par, unfortunately. She walked by us over three times and didn't even notice me trying to get her attention. One of the guys with us had to literally step in her way to get her to stop. It was very noisey and you had to read the menu by candle light, which hurt all of our eyes. I'm not even thirty yet and had a very hard time reading the menu, I felt like my Grandma trying to see. The noise also made it hard to carry on conversations. If you are willing to put up with all the negatives, the food is worth it! I loved the pera pizza. Prices were average for a tapas place.
Went with my wife to Barbuzzo for the first time. The food was simply superb. From the creamy sheeps milk ricotta & tender grilled octopus to the pan seared gnocchi & gnudi everything was perfectly seasoned & prepared. Even though you will be full, do not miss out on their sweet, salty, creamy & crunchy caramel budino desert. It is a must! Our server was equally as fabulous with great timing and knowledge of the food. Even thought the tables are tight & the noise level makes conversation difficult they still rate a 5. We will be going back.
With all the hype, I was expecting Barbuzzo to not live up to my high standards. It met and then exceeded all my expectations. The food here is AMAZING. I love that the plates are tapas style and that they have such a range of foods. We picked the meatballs, pork tenderloing, ricotta pasta, olives and butternut squash dumplings and were not disappointed by any of our dishes. My favorite was the ricotta pasta and my fiances favorite was the pork tenderloin. Meatballs were a close 2nd! The service was attentive, but not bothersome. We got an excellent table inside but right next to the window which was open because of the beautiful day. Drinks were good too! My white sangria was very refreshing.
This was our second time dining at Barbuzzo because after the first dining experience, we knew we needed to come back. We started with the olives as an appetizer which were a great salty beginning to the night. This was followed up with the Roasted Beet Salad with fresh grapefruit, goat cheese and cooked tuscan kale. The dish was presented beautifully as you ate through the perfectly assembled mound of kale to find fresh beets on top of a goat cheese spread. Right before the entree, I was introduced to my favorite item on the menu the pan seared brussel sprouts which were fantastic. Overall, my second dining experience was even better than I first remembered. A must try gem on 13th street.
