Barbuzzo Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
While looking up good restaurants in Philly, Barbuzzo came up multiple times, which necessitated a trip there. As it happens to be Restaurant Week, my sister and I decided to try Barbuzzo’s Restaurant Week menu, which certainly did not disappoint. The restaurant had a great vibe to it, and service staff were great. The Salted Caramel Budino was exceptional!
Great experience at Barbuzzo! We jumped at the chance to try it during Restautant Week. Three course for $20 was an amazing bargain. Three of us had three different meals and they were all fabulous. Good vegetarian selection. Desserts were especially good! Service was outstanding. Our daughter works at another high end Philly restaurant and she was impressed! It's hard to get a table here (we had tried 3 times for dinner before now) but we will be back if we can!
Recently celebrated my birthday with dinner at Barbuzzo and absolutely loved it! We were in town for the night and managed to get a reservation for a Saturday evening. We had the pan seared brussel sprouts, maiale pizza, meatballs, and the budino. Everything was absolutely delicious. We were stuffed but I would have loved to have ordered more! The restaurant is in a great location in City Center and convenient to lots of nearby bars. I would 10/10 recommend.
After trying unsuccessfully to get a reservation multiple times, we were really looking forward to our dinner. Sadly, it failed to meet expectations. First, it hit on three pet peeves: sitting on your winter coat, needing to use a phone to read the menu because it's so dark, and the tables so close together your server can't get between them. It was similar to being jammed in an airplane. I was relieved we had the seats against the wall and not on the aisle. The cheese board comes with a written description, which is a waste because it can't be seen.
The service was perfectly pleasant and attentive.
The food was disappointing in that nothing was especially memorable. The ricotta and grilled bread appetizer was the highlight. A side of Brussels sprouts was good. We found our two pastas underwhelming. The flavors of the soppresini didn't meld. The primary flavor was pancetta, which was delicious, but the dish as described should have had more sage and squash. Both pastas were a little too al dente for our taste, and neither was particularly hot, despite coming out of the kitchen at separate times.
Pro: Great Aesthetic
Con: FOOD WAS BLAND and portions were SMALL, SERVICE AUCKED - server clearly did not care that we were not satisfied with our food and did nothing to try to make us happy. Cheese board WAS EXTREMELY small and the collection of FOUR TINY pieces of cheese was unimpressive. Salad was too salty. Pizza was barely crisp and bland. Squash pasta had uncooked squash and barely any sauce. Once again a bland dish. Pork Ragu pasta - bland. Have lived in the city for years and this is the first time I’ve had a bad restaurant experience since i always do my research and look at the menu and ratings first. Disappointed especially since it had great reviews. Avoid and walk next door - 30 better restaurants within a block
Very disappointed. Service very poor with mistakes in flow, timing, overall quality. Ingredients seemed to be missing from dishes and when this was brought up corrections were not easily made. Food generally good, however. From start to finish well below standard.
I have been wanting to try Barbuzzo for a very long time and finally got a chance to go this past weekend. The first order, meatballs, came out cold. It was difficult to determine if they were good based on the temperature, but we did not complain. The second order, a pasta special, also came out cold. Additionally, the pasta was completely overcooked to the point that it was hard and rubbery, completely inedible. At this point, we had to inform the waiter. The waiter was extremely accommodating and understanding. Thanks to the waiter our experience was elevated. The remainder of the meat we ordered was average. The only good thing we had was the Branzino fish. I cannot believe I was waiting so long to try this restaurant. One of the worst meals I have had in Philly and it is a completely overrated restaurant.
I would like to give Barbuzzo a negative review, so that I could dissuade others from using up all of the Saturday night reservations (and Fridays, and Sundays, etc.), but I can't. The restaurant was really nice. The food was excellent. The service was very pleasant. I met the chef on the way to the restroom and he was very welcoming and nice. I look forward to returning to Barbuzzo as soon as we can get a reservation!
This restaurant comes up as #1 if you search "best restaurants in Philly" and now I know why!! The food is incredible and definitely the best pizza I have ever had. I already want to go back again. Service is quick. The restaurant is slightly small so plan to make a reservation.
Food was excellent, but the service was just adequate. The setting was disappointing. Other reviews are on spot, the tables are packed in to the point of constantly being bumped and knocked by servers and guests and the noise level at some points was so high we couldn’t hear each other speak. I like a lovey restaurant as opposed to quiet, but it certainly felt like this place is overcrowded. I got the sense from the tepid and rushed service and tight seating that this restaurant is prioritizing tables and turnover over experience of the diner.
2nd time we ate at Barbuzzo. 2nd time we were enthralled with the food and ambiance. sat upstairs right at the window. was decorated with hanging lights that made everything look amazing. Food was delicious, had the price fix NYE menu. Everything was perfect.
We are actually thinking of having our wedding reception in the 2nd floor area.
Definitely a place to go for date or great food experience.
The food was actually very good. We had dinner here prior to a show at the Merriam theater. The only downside was how cold it was in the restaurant. We all had to wear our coats during dinner. They have a curtain to help keep it warm but they really need a new idea.
Barbuzzo is my favorite restaurant. It is the place I recommend the most. From the minute you walk in, the staff takes care of you. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. The food is delicious and the portions are just right. Prices are reasonable. I can’t wait to get back. Be sure to make a reservation. It is always crowded.
Christmas lunch for my staff Food was amazing Their vegetable sandwich was the best I’ve ever had and Mediterranean plate worked as one of our appetizers. My staff loved!
One area to improve- hostess She could hustle more Seemed to only be able to acknowledge/work with one group at a time. We were left waiting at the door for some time before anyone even said hello
