Barbuto Ratings and Reviews
The chicken is as good as everyone says. I don’t usually like roast chicken, but was told it was a must have so I took my chances and it paid off. Our waiter was attentive without being too much, but the place wasn’t at all full - definitely a great place for lunch for that reason alone!
Fantastic service and outstanding food at this upscale, bustling restaurant in meatpacking district. A great stop after the Whitney or any other time. Waiter was attentive, friendly efficient and very helpful esp with a gluten intolerance issue. Best chicken we have ever had and as a result can not order chicken anywhere else ever again. Only suggestion would be to have more wines by the glass in the $10-15 range as most are $20.
Did not disappoint! I found Barbuto through an Instagram post and had been following them for months dying to go try the food and it was well worth the wait. Thank you for a great lunch, would recommend and would be back in a flash on our next trip to NYC! Great little gem.
I went to Barbuto as the last meal we had in NYC before flying out. I had taken my daughter to celebrate her 21st Birthday and Christmas in the city. We loved the decor, bar, excellent service and most delicious food. I am a true foodie and use Italy(all regions as my guide). Barbuto is a place to put on your must go list in NYC. Sometimes celebrity chef places change and go down-this place was outstanding. I loved ending our wonderful trip on such a high note.
Never a disappointment with Jonathan Waxman's Barbuto. Our waiter, Peter, was so helpful and had an infectious happiness to him as well as the rest of the staff. We try to eat at Barbuto whenever we travel to NYC with the family. We have never been disappointed. Try the Gnocchi and any other homemade pasta on the menu. And the JW chicken is a classic and so very yummy! Oh and the bartender made one of the best French 75 cocktails I ever tasted. Try it if you love Gin and Prosecco.
We had a group of 6 and found the family style tasting menu by accident. It was at the bottom of the menu after the blurb about the chef's latest cookbook. Glad one of the people in our group found it. We all like to share and only 2 of us had been to Baruto before. Amazing amount to food and 3 or four dishes for each course all excellently prepared and delicious. Seemed a little rushed, the kitchen should have given a little more time in between courses. But, in the end we were there for almost 3 hours! Great experience, looking forward to doing it again!
Go for the salads and amazing chicken. Given its amazing reputation, I was surprised how underwelming my shrimp pasta dish was. It seemed to have been sitting out a while and the portion was modest at best. Others had more amazing meals. The broccoli salad was fantastic and the kale salad was supposedly so good my friend didn't offer to share. The fried potatoes were the ultimate comfort food.
The food is always up to par, rarely have a bad meal here although at the price point and simplicity of the dishes it should really be up to snuff every time. The service however is touch and go at best - from the waiters that don’t come back to check on you to the hostesses that make you stand there for a solid 10 while you stare at a room full of empty tables. It’s more often than not the simple things that make a dining experience enjoyable, and memorable for the wrong reasons the other way around. But hey, at least the food is always on point.
Most dishes we had were quite delicious, but I thought the chicken was a bit over-rated. I have had much better roasted chicken. I would definitely go back to this place for the food (pasta dish, pork chop and bruschetta were amazing), but hope to get another server. Our server, Matty had a pretentious attitude with me and my parents after they asked to decant the wine. I understand that he probably viewed it as unnecessary, but we all noticed his attitude with us for the remainder of the dinner, which was not enjoyable.
