What Insiders Are Saying
Barbuto has been a West Village staple for a long time. Hit it for the pasta, the roast chicken, and the scene of single people hanging at the bar.
It was a lovely evening.
Truly a bucket list dining experience.
Chef Jonathan Waxman's expression of rustic Italian left an impression one that I will not forget. From the complex and delicious brussel sprouts salad to the perfectly cooked chicken, my mind was blown by the attention to detail and flavors from this delicious meal. Thank you for making our NYC trip even more special!
Celebrated parents bdays!
Lunch Food: Fabulous Chichen, duck confit, carbonara.
Desserts: Heavenly tiramisu, blood orange sorbet
The restaurant is not good for gluten free patrons. There are very few options. The menu was very limited in general. We waited more than an hour for our entrée. We were told it was because they wanted to clean the grill so there was not gluten on it. This didn't make sense to us. When we finally got our food it was very good.
Excellent Italian food.
waiters not the friendliest but food keeps me coming back.
Always a hit! Great simple food, lovely staff, perfect ambiance.
cool space, friendly vibe, attentive staff, nice range of menu items, and really good coffee!
Waxman’s famous chicken—overdone, nothing special
Steak—good but laughably small portion
ambiance—it’s a great room in a great neighborhood with a creative, well to do crowd. buzzy and fun.
service—a deal breaker. long wait for initial contact, didn’t seem that they knew who had our table. even then, inattentive, distracted, disinterested even. waiter nowhere to be found for long periods of time in a restaurant where you can see to all four corners.
A great dining experience! We tried the JW Family Dinner, the chefs selection of exceptional choices from the menu, including the rightfully popular Kale salad and roast chicken. Both were exceptionally delicious. No one left hungry, everyone can’t wait to visit again!
Our experience was very positive. We came to Barbuto with high expectations and were not disappointed. On arrival we felt welcome. The service from start to finish was professional and efficient. We ordered the swordfish with pumpkin squash and smoked cabbage, the roast chicken, and finished with cranberry and lemon sorbet. The roast chicken, a very large half chicken was succulent, smothered in salsa verde, which gave the meat a lovely moistness. You could smell the smokiness of the cabbage when the swordfish came to the table. It was perfectly cooked. The sorbet was definitely a palate pleaser. The cranberry was creamery and the lemon was perfectly tart. A great combo. We’ll be back when we’re next in town. Thank you, Barbuto!
Awesome dinner, lovely atmosphere, great service, very fun spot.
We had a healthy and delicious New Year’s Day lunch. Lots of choices, excellent service, and we feel we are off to a great start in the New Year. The chicken was superb!
We've been to Barbuto over 20 times. Consistently the best Italian restaurant in the West Village - buzzy without being pretentious, great service without being fussy. Especially nice in the spring and fall with the walls flung open. The food is always fantastic. Thanks for being our neighborhood favorite, Chef Waxman!
We spent New Year’s Eve with our teenage daughters at Barbuto. Kale salad was the best we’ve ever had, pasta bolognese fantastic (teens liked it too) and gnocchi and steak very good. Highly recommend Barbuto.
NYE at the chefs table
Overstated. We liked the interior design, ex garage transformed to an open kitchen restaurant. Food: kale salad and pizza tartuffo were nice, but famous chicken and carbonara were indifferent. The duck sandwich was bad - too much bread, too little duck
Great lunch spot near the Whitney Museum. The ambiance is very bright and modern. The restaurant used to be an old garage so the windows are huge. The service was very friendly and attentive. Our group shared several appetizers, entrees and desserts. Our favorites were the roasted chicken (a house specialty), gnocchi, pizza and steak salad. The best dessert was the chocolate pudding - it's a creamy chocolate mousse topped with a large dollop of whipped cream - yummy!
I would definitely recommend Barbuto and return again.
Great place to catch up with friends
ALWAYS TOP TIER AND EXCELLENT IN EVERY WAY!!!!!
Lovely family dinner, everything was just right, from the friendly staff, to the delicious wine and marvelous food. Can’t wait to go back!
Another incredible meal at Barbuto. We were 6 people and lucky enough to score the private area! What a treat. We decided to do the $95 pp tasting menu. It was really more of a family style meal. So much food!! We had an antipasto plate, calamari salad, kale salad, 2 pastas (gnocchi and papardelle), the House special chicken, steak with sprouts, a fish dish, veggies and the marvelous potatoes, and tiramisu for dessert. Everything was perfectly cooked and delicious. I LOVE Barbuto!!
Amazingly well prepared food
Barbuto was everything I hoped it would be—a wonderful, warm vibe, and the best carbonara I have ever had (perfectly cooked pasta, very peppery, with perfectly cooked pancetta). The kale salad (and the Brussels sprouts salad my friend got) we're both incredible, as well as the pear crostata. I will absolutely be back.
It didn’t meet our expectations. Good, but not great.
Hands down, the best restaurant in NYC - everything on the menu is prepared with the best ingredients, seasonally changing - be sure to have the Kale Salad, the Roast Chicken, the Gnocchi, the crispy potatoes, the budino. Service is excellent and the namesake owner, Jonathan, is actually still in the restaurant after all these years!
Excellent from start to finish. Food was outstanding, as was service.
We had the famous Waxman roasted chicken and it was absolutely the best roast chicken!! So succulent and flavorful, there was nothing plain about it! Not being a fan of kale, I was reluctant to try the Kale salad but our waiter gave it his personal thumbs up so we tried it and it was really delicious -- salty, sweet, lemony and tiny little crunchies -- so good!! The Carbonara buccatini was sublime as well as the pan-toasted butternut squash gnocchi. We really had a wonderful meal and a great time here. Wholeheartedly recommend and will definitely back it back here soon!
Love that chicken!!!
Great, creative food and wonderful, warm and friendly service. Highly recommend!
Perfect! Great lunch!
Delicious food and very good service in a cool setting. Thoroughly enjoyable meal, third time to visit and will be back again.
Paid $95pp for the Thanksgiving menu, the worst meal of my life. Everything was just badly seasoned, poor taste, overcooked or overly fried. The pasta was unsalty and basic and desert tasted like it was made out of apple syrup. Ohhh the Turkey, like it was spoiled, awful. Just a waste of money and a huge disappointment.
A gem of a restaurant! Shared kale salad and bruschetta to start. Then the gnocchi, hangar steak and bugatini carbonara. Everything was delicious!
Great, maybe New York's best, roast chicken. A simple but delightful menu, more than adequate wines by the glass. A great lunch after a hellish morning of meetings. Go out of you way and you won't be disappointed.
We had a wonderful lingering lunch at Barbuto. Our server could not have been friendlier and accommodating as a friend and I who had not seen each other in ages lingered long after the typical lunch hour with a cheese plate and one more glass of wine. Our lunch was outstanding.
