Barbuto has been a West Village staple for a long time. Hit it for the pasta, the roast chicken, and the scene of single people hanging at the bar.
Great lunch! Service was outstanding and food very good. I’m sorry to hear that Barbuto will be closing at the end of the month. This restaurant has been on my list to try for a while and I’m glad that I was able to get there.
It's sad that Barbuto is in its final month of existence - at least at this location. And the crowds lined up outside the door before it opens are a testament to the its success over the years. This was another wonderful evening - delicious food, ample portions, and weather that cooperated so that the "garage doors" could be open to the street, which has always been a part of the experience at Barbuto. Delicious salads to start, and swordfish and pasta to follow. Tiramisu and affogato for dessert. Barbuto, please come back soon!!!

Barbuto has been identified as " The perfect restaurant" an opinion with which I totally agree. As it is closing on May 31st, we went for our last meal before said closing and as has always been the case it was a perfect meal. Chef Waxman's simple earthy food has always been perfectly executed. Of the many times we have been here, we cannot identify a dish that fell below excellent. A special nod to the deserts which were sublime. What made the day even better was the wonderful weather allowing the doors to be open and the special open-air ambiance to envelope this wonderful place. We hope Chef Waxman locates a replacement site.

The best - don't close! Staple to the community, the best italian food in NYC. It is a shame that the new building owners are kicking them out.
Loved our food! Atmosphere was great, and the restaurant was very accommodating with changing our reservation.

Great spot for lunch before the Whitney Museum, about 4 min walk. As always the signature JW chicken was juicy with crispy skin. The squash ravioli was also a star. Definite return visit!

We haven't been here in almost a year. Stupid us!!! Simply wonderful in every level (except maybe for the noise...but that's always been the case here). Superb food, great service and a Tomm that buzzes with energy. Delicious bruschetta and a Brussels sprout salad to start, followed by steak and fish with sides of carrots and the most wonderful roasted/fried potatoes. Not to be missed.
Delicious! Everything we ordered was fantastic. Thought the restaurant would be a little less crowded at 2:30 but it was full and popping. The sounds really bounce off the walls in the space, wouldn't recommend taking a person who is hard of hearing.
I love Barbuto. I’ve been going there almost monthly for years. Food is outstanding! Unfortunately the last few times we have had rude waitresses. Last nights first waitress was awesome, but a shift change must have happened and we literally were stuck with a woman named Sasha and she was HORRIBLY rude. She ruined our bday celebration. I think the establishment needs to spend more time and money finding better wait staff.

The food is delicious, it's a great spot...but I'm really disappointed at how crappy our service was. TL;DR: waiter had worked a double that day and was trying to flip our table ASAP by telling us we had to order everything at once, and would tap his hands on the table waiting for us to make up our mind. NYC is already fast past enough as it is, let us enjoy enjoy an Italian meal with the way the Italians intend: AT OUR OWN PACE.
My second visit and equally amazing as the first! Love the informal setting and ambiance. The food is amazing. As an entree there is no need to look any further than the chicken, which I would not normally choose as a discerning diner but here its is quiet simply stunning as are the potatoes.

I was actually disappointed. Been looking forward for a while and the service was less than mediocre and a flat glass of prosecco served to us certainly does not warrant the cost of the glass not the reputation of the owner. Server hardly smiles, the host and bartender looked bored. And the owner JW was sitting in the corner. He also was not warm. The staff is a reflection of their environment. Scallops were fantastic but have certainly had way better experiences. A true bummer
The location was perfect for us since we were coming from the Whitney Museum. Also strategically located near high line entrance. We went for lunch, 4 ladies. The menu was so limited we struggled with it. The salad with hanger steak seemed like the only choice we could find agreeable. The kale salad was great but it didnt have an option for shrimp or steak so it was not filling enough. There shouldve been more options.
Not cheap. lunch for 4 with 6 glasses of wine ran about $200.... Service was very good, friendly and accommodating. Place was very cool and I think in spring with open glass garage door panels and out door seating is probably fabulouse. Easy access to parking garage and entrance on west side highway.
The JW chicken was awesome (big portion too!). Everyone enjoyed their food, and the service was very nice. This was a business lunch, and it was a good choice. I would recommend and will go back.

We were told to try the chicken, I would say you have to try the chicken...amazing. And how often do you say that about chicken. Pasta's rocked, appetizers where all stellar and the wine list was an inexpensive joy! When the food is this good you rarely see a wine list that has a decent bottle under $100. Barbut's list hovers at about $60 with some great choices, albeit not a ton thereof. Go, you will not be disappointed.
Always phenomenal! The food is to die for, the ambience is top-notch and you may get lucky and have a celebrity sighting. Bobby Flay was seated a few tables away from us.
It's a West Village experience with plenty of energy. The food quality is unpredictable in terms of flavor but always expensive. Still, we always enjoy our gatherings here which must be due to the light and ambiance. Also, we live across the street so convenience probably factors into our appraisal of the restaurant.
Way too loud but totally delicious
The food is excellent, everything was tasty and it will definitely go into my recommendation list. Points of improvement: the service was a bit rude; a little bit of training would improve. Also they should include a 2nd door at the entrance to avoid cold air coming into the restaurant.

Barbuto is a great place to dine with friends, family or even go on a date. The food is delicious and the ambiance is lively and fun. I recommend Barbuto to everyone I know who visits town.

Chef Jonathan Waxman's expression of rustic Italian left an impression one that I will not forget. From the complex and delicious brussel sprouts salad to the perfectly cooked chicken, my mind was blown by the attention to detail and flavors from this delicious meal. Thank you for making our NYC trip even more special!

Desserts: Heavenly tiramisu, blood orange sorbet
The restaurant is not good for gluten free patrons. There are very few options. The menu was very limited in general. We waited more than an hour for our entrée. We were told it was because they wanted to clean the grill so there was not gluten on it. This didn't make sense to us. When we finally got our food it was very good.
