Consistently fantastic! The menu offerings and food is always amazing. Love that there are seasonal changes and variations to the standbys like the hanger steak and gnocchi. Great wine list and drink menu. Atmosphere is upbeat and located within a cozy west village neighborhood location.

Great food and wonderful ambiance. This is not only a Top Chef Restaurant but it is a genuine West Village Restaurant and that is rare these days. If you have a special event the chefs table is fantastic. Done that for several birthdays and it’s always delicious!
Food was indeed good, but environment/atmosphere was more causal and louder than expected. It was definitely a great Italian restaurant, but it’s not necessarily one that I am dying to return to.
The was quite a bit of a lag between appetizers and dinner. The staff was nice and gave us two desserts for 5 people. This was all good since reps from the James beard foundation were with us
We went for lunch , looking for something relaxed with a bit of a step up in quality. It's perfect for that. Weather permitting, which it was when we went, the entire restaurant is opened up and becomes a large, partially covered piazza of dining. Very pleasant! The drinks and food are quite good too (Negronis and wine) (roast chicken, sauteed greens and gnocchi) . The only reason I don't give it all five stars is because there is nothing that makes you gasp and go "Oh, man!" That is fine by me- sometimes you just want a really good meal in a pleasant setting. Barbuto provides that. It's also really close to the Whitney and the High Line for all you tourists out there!
I finally made it to Barbuto after eight years in NYC and was a little underwhelmed. They have some standout dishes (burrata, bucatini) while others were okay to good. Service was friendly and food came out at a good pace but water and beverage service was slow and inattentive. I'd like to retry for weekend lunch/brunch where Barbuto is noted to excel. For the "trendy Italian" meal, I would opt for other spots in the neighborhood for dinner service.

Hands down the best meal that we had in NYC and we ate fine dining every night. We loved the casual atmosphere coupled with the excellent food. Service was above average with one oops - we had to ask for the bread that we saw everyone else enjoying. Johnathan Waxman was casually in house. A nice bonus for this Top Chef geek.
it was a special occasion and we wanted to go to a Michelin star restaurant to celebrate. the food was bad the service was mediocre and ambiance, i felt i was eating in someone's garage. terrible. Never eat here!!!
Overall, this is a great place. The pasta was cooked perfectly; however, my sauce was way too salty - pancetta was in it. Highly recommend the kale salade. Despite the salt, it was a very fun evening. Try it.

I’ve been coming here for probably 10 years. It’s starting to show its age - the decor is the same, the garage doors are very 2005, and the menu isn’t particularly inventive or even unique. Like an apartment you’ve lived in for a decade, Barbuto needs a facelift and makeover. Food was quite delicious - except the veal main, which was basically veal pork belly. 80% fat. The three of us were splitting all courses (3 apps and 3 mains) and didn’t finish more then 20% of the veal. I was surprised the server didn’t notice and ask why.
It was great to be recognised from our last visit a year ago. Complimentary desserts went a long way to sweetening us up too. Looking forward to dining in the evening tonight. Will keep coming back each year for sure....

Barbuto never disappoints. The chicken and the kale salad are to die for. Truly yummy. Love the space but pretty noisy especially when not fully open due to weather.

Fantastic place! You must try the heirloom tomato salad and the hanger steak. The service was PHENOMENAL. Well worth the trip down the the West Village.

We had a wonderful time....our server Matthew was outstanding and Chef Waxman went out of his way to make us comfortable-total gentleman. Enjoyed talking to him. Pasta dishes fantastic and a very fun place!!
waiter was brusque and just wanted to rush us out as quickly as possible. as i dine throughout the world i find that waitstaff who don't want to be working can't really hide it well. Such was the case here Food was fair, atmosphere good, overall impression: a big disappointment.

We had a delicious meal! Chicken was so flavorful and the side potatoes, crispy and tasty! Gilbert, our server, recommended the kale salad, and it did not disappoint! The dressing is yummy. Scallops very good and Gnocchi was delicious! Desserts were great too - pistachio cake, chocolate budino, and rhubarb crisp. The overall experience was delightful from start to finish! Gilbert is a fantastic server. Knows the menu very well and is so friendly!
One complaint is the chairs were very uncomfortable. Small round wicker seats and back. I guess they don’t want you to get too comfortable and stay all night!
Fabulous time and food! Even a Jonathan Waxman was in the House! Great to see this great chef talking it up with the patrons!
4 of us visited this restaurant for our last evening in NYC - we had been to several other celebrity chef restaurants the prior 5 nights we had been there. Our waiter was very inattentive - we had to ask for bread, and a dessert menu and he never once stopped by our table on his many trips by to ask us how we were doing and if we needed anything.. When we questioned the menu itself, he did not explain the portions very well. I ordered the half chicken (4 big pieces) with a side of potatoes (as he indicated the chicken would not be enough) and there was enough food to feed 2 - 3 people. I ended up giving my leftovers to a homeless person on the street. The food itself was very good but the service brought the mood down. The garage door walls were open, it was a cool, windy evening, so we had to leave our coats/sweaters on. The manager came around later and apologized and advised that we should have said something.... Very disappointed considering we watch all the shows with Chef Waxman. We would not go back.

I have eaten here 6+ times in the past and this by far was my worst experience. It was my first time for lunch so maybe that was the reason everything was so off. The roasted chicken , which I have really enjoyed in the past, was bland and a little under cooked. My daughter's gnocchi was doughy and not very flavorful. I had a mussel dish and it was lacking in any real flavor. Our server was disinterested in helping us and we did not see him for 20 minutes after our food was served and he did not stop by to see how we liked our food- which a majority of us did not. I will not be coming back any time soon. VERY disappointing.
