What Insiders Are Saying
Barbuto has been a West Village staple for a long time. Hit it for the pasta, the roast chicken, and the scene of single people hanging at the bar.
Incredibly small portions for the money. Good flavor, but left still hungry...
We had a wonderful time....our server Matthew was outstanding and Chef Waxman went out of his way to make us comfortable-total gentleman. Enjoyed talking to him. Pasta dishes fantastic and a very fun place!!
waiter was brusque and just wanted to rush us out as quickly as possible. as i dine throughout the world i find that waitstaff who don't want to be working can't really hide it well. Such was the case here Food was fair, atmosphere good, overall impression: a big disappointment.
Excelente servicio y la comida riquísima ! , nos quedamos con deseo del volver !
We had a delicious meal! Chicken was so flavorful and the side potatoes, crispy and tasty! Gilbert, our server, recommended the kale salad, and it did not disappoint! The dressing is yummy. Scallops very good and Gnocchi was delicious! Desserts were great too - pistachio cake, chocolate budino, and rhubarb crisp. The overall experience was delightful from start to finish! Gilbert is a fantastic server. Knows the menu very well and is so friendly!
One complaint is the chairs were very uncomfortable. Small round wicker seats and back. I guess they don’t want you to get too comfortable and stay all night!
Fabulous time and food! Even a Jonathan Waxman was in the House! Great to see this great chef talking it up with the patrons!
Lunch was fantastic as always. Definitely one of our go-to restaurants!
They never disappoint!
Food was meh except a fabulous calamari salad;soft shell crab was heavily breaded, chicken was moist but not a lot of taste; server was wonderful
Barbuto never disappoints. The servers are incredibly helpful with navigating the menu and the food / wine is delicious. Always a good experience!
I have eaten here 6+ times in the past and this by far was my worst experience. It was my first time for lunch so maybe that was the reason everything was so off. The roasted chicken , which I have really enjoyed in the past, was bland and a little under cooked. My daughter's gnocchi was doughy and not very flavorful. I had a mussel dish and it was lacking in any real flavor. Our server was disinterested in helping us and we did not see him for 20 minutes after our food was served and he did not stop by to see how we liked our food- which a majority of us did not. I will not be coming back any time soon. VERY disappointing.
Food was good -- it nearly always is; however, we had a terrible service experience.
Best roast chicken ever!
We were in from out of town, a group of 4 including my mom, aunt and husband. A friend joined later and it was no problem for him to pull up a chair and join the group. The food was delicious and portions are very generous-- we all said we should have shared. We started with the Kale salad and the calamari salad. The kale salad is one of the best I've ever had! Calamari salad was really different, but we really enjoyed it. We each had a pasta entree, and absolutely should have shared. We had the gnocci, the lamb bolognese and the squid ink pasta--all very good! Our only gripe is the service. She may have been having a bad night, which I happens and I understand, but she seemed annoyed that we were there and just wasn't real friendly. Regardless of the lack luster service, this is a place I'd go back to on my next visit to NYC.
Great waiter, kale salad and the roast chicken- what could be better!
Had an incredible meal and great experience at the chef's table. The waiter was very attentive and the restaurant catered specifically to a person in the party with food allergy concerns. Would definitely recommend eating at this restaurant.
Great Chicken! Everyone enjoyed their meal. Good generous pour on the wine.
Best chicken ever.
Food was expensive for what it was, staff was nice but immediately told us that there is another party coming after us. Mediocre fare for such a nice location and space.
I would for further down to the village for better and more affordable dining with equally nice albeit different atmosphere
I love this restaurant so much. The food was amazing, the wine was spectacular, the service was IMPECCABLE. I highly recommend it!
Our experience at Barbuto was absolutely amazing. From the time we checked in to the time we received the bill, it met or exceeded all expectations previously conceived. Go with a decent sized party (between 4-6) so you don't feel guilty ordering a bunch of different items off the menu and sharing. I highly reccomend making the squid ink pasta one of your choices followed up by any of the desserts. They also had some great cocktails as well.
Food was good chicken skim delicious chicken itself was good. Lamb pappardelle was also very good.
Must order the side of the potatoes
Noise was loud but expected.
The chairs are so very uncomfortable
The server was not correct in a dish description. Food felt small and appetizer size. The apérol spritz was clear and the whole experience felt cheaply delivered. For the cost the execution was poor. Probably not coming back.
And....I notated it was a special occasion. Nothing was mentioned about that or was the service indicative of that note.
It was delicious as usual
Great food, service and restaurant. One of my favorites and one I dine at every two or three weeks
Never rushed, and even though our waiter was super busy, he always had time to answer questions, check on us and make conversation. Everything was flawless. I’ll be back on my next New York visit and with all the dining options available, that’s a high achievement!
I love Barbuto's. It's one of those NYC places that's been around forever and no wonder. It does everything right, the food is delicious, service great and it's very consistent. Go whenever I can get in.....make reservations.
The food was absolutely incredible. The gnocchi especially is fantastic.
Food great as always. Server had a lot of tables. Could not keep up.
The only bad comment is that it was very noisy, we could not talk. The music was too loud!!
Arrived early and seated straight away. The food was exactly as we had it 18 months ago. Generous serving, amazingly fresh and bursting with flavour
A v established W Village restaurant targeted at young people, and not terribly welcoming to those over age 50. But Waxman's food is great.
Loved it~! The cuisine was delicious, excellent service and unique atmosphere!
We were visiting New York and wanted to try Jonathan Waxman's famous roast chicken. It did not disappoint! The chocolate budino was also out of this world! I'd love to go back and try the pasta.
Barbuto has been and continues to be my favorite NYC Spot for lunch or dinner.
Service was not good
Great setting with an energetic vibe. Felt so comfortable and casual for New York.
We had a great waiter that was "on"-food suggestions, wine pairings, etc. were spot on.
The gnocchi was awesome especially paired with the cauliflower and great shared as an appetizer.
Great calamari salad-so tender.
Only a few things were "off" in my opinion:
The Basque peppers in the lamb ragu were a bit overpowering with the vinegar component overtaking the flavor of the lamb and the great pasta. It may be normally not as bold.
Need to tweak the decaf coffee...there is a bitterness to it but it may be the way it was made that night .
Was excellent! The pasta carbonara is on the lunch menu and we asked and they gladly made it for us. The duck breast, chicken and pork shank were done perfectly.
