Sunday brunch with the girls was amazing at barbounia as usual ! I’ve been here over 30 times and I’m always impressed and I leave happy, full and a little tipsy! Never a mistake to come here!
All that we hoped for when we chose this establishment. Fun ambiance with a feeling of being in he Middle East with white walls and long linen curtains and arches. Interning art on the walls, low lighting, a view of the oven. The Tajin with dorade was scrumptious with so much flavor, the scallops were the best we ever had. They were on top of roasted carrots and cauliflower on top of a layer of labneh. Wonderful meal and very popular spot. I guess they all knew it is a gem.
The server was very nice just attentive enough. The food as always was excellent - we shared appetizers and entree like tapas/mezze. It was a very pleasant birthday.
Delicious + good vibes!
Amazing Mediterranean food and music
We had dinner at Barbounia on 4/14 while on visiting our sons from Brooklyn. We luckily had reservations, as the place filled up very quickly and stayed busy for the hour or so we were there. I will say that the dining experience at Barbounia was one of the best we've had in a long time. The food was outstanding; our group ordered strip steak, salmon kebobs, swordfish, and duck shawarma. Everyone raved about their meal, although the swordfish was slightly dry. The steak was the biggest hit--tender, flavorful, excellent!
We ordered appetizers, including fried calamari, hummus, and spicy eggplant--all were very tasty.
The service was as outstanding as the food---with several servers catering to our every need. It was such a friendly, welcoming environment. While fairly loud with many tables close in vicinity, we had no problem holding conversations at our own table.
All in all, dining at Barbounia was a real treat, and we will definitely return---soon!
My fiancee and I had 12PM reservations and got to the restaurant slightly early. We were immediately given a seat, 3rd 2 top from the front windows. During the initial order and first round of drinks, we experienced 3 different servers, each of which we had to flag down. The food came quickly and met our expectations - that was not an issue. The service however was sub-par. We asked for ketchup, it never came, and without physically getting up to grab the attention of someone, it wasn't going to ever come. We sat without water and "bottomless" drinks the majority of the time. During the 4 champagne fill-ups, 2 were completely flat which were sent back (consuming 2 glasses in total while seated). What was extra frustrating was that our server was paying FULL attention to a 5 top table seated closest to the doors on a round table - making sure they had drinks, checked in on, and taking several photos for them throughout their time there. It became almost a laughing matter between my Fiancee and I because it was so obvious and almost a game to us to see if he was ever going to come back to our table to see if we needed anything.
Tired of sitting without service (no offer of desert or additional drinks), we opted to flag down a 4th server to grab the check and move over to the bar. The bar staff couldn't have done more - offered us a menu, drinks, and made small talk with us; I kind of wish we had our whole meal there!
Great service. Food good and large portions
I loved it. The ambience was great.
The food and service was good as well.
The food and service was pretty good. I like coming here.
Great place to celebrate your birthday. Drinks and food are expensive
It was great
I have always said to people when they ask for recommendation of a good place to dine at in Grammercy/Union Square, "Barbounia, it's an oldie but goodie!" (given how many new places keep opening up in this area. Having said that, it was very disappointing in my last dinner there with 2 ladies that we felt rushed. As if the main concern was to "turn a table" versus allowing customers to enjoy their get together.
Always great - have been many times and will be back again!
Love the scenario, cool young and pop! I was there for brunch, food was good, felafel were super good!! Great french fries.. eggs Benedict with salmon was delicious!! I really want to go back for dinner.. the ambience was super vibrant with nice middle eastern music.. we will definitely be back!
Really loved the ambiance of this restaurant, it made me feel like i stepped out of the city for a little while and into a tropical oasis. The food was delicious, we ended up splitting a bunch of appetizers amongst four of us and we were quite happy with our choices as well as the portions. Only negative was how loud the restaurant was, we had to basically yell across the table at one another.
I thought the food was delicious (my friend liked hers but not as much.) However, the service was really terrible -- especially considering the prices. Even though we had a 6pm reservation so the place was not at all crowded when we arrived, it seemed to take forever for someone to even come over to our table. We never really did figure out who our server was because different people kept coming at different times (not because they were being so helpful, but because they all seemed kind of confused.) We had a very simple order: two entrees and a side order of brussels sprouts. The sprouts did not arrive with the entrees and we had to flag down about four different people before someone got them. (The server had apparently not even ordered them -- seems incredible considering the simplicity of our order.) Also, no bread was delivered until we specifically requested it well into the meal.
As the evening wore on and the place filled up, it became incredibly noisy. (Admittedly, it was a Saturday.) But given the poor service, high prices and noise level, I don't think I'll go back, even though the food was quite good.
The restaurant was deafening loud and about ten degrees too hot. Food was tasty but expensive.
While I have been to Barbounia many times I was not pleased with this visit. I had the special pasta dish which mentioned mushrooms as an ingredient. When I received my meal I found they should have written the menu item as "mushrooms with some pasta." I like mushrooms but not an entire bowl! I did not have time (theater tickets) to have the meal exchanged I did let the waiter know that I was not pleased. He sent over a manager and when I described the plate his comment was "Oh, so sorry." I did not necessarily think I would be compensated but at least a percentage back on the meal would have been appreciated.
Very pleasant experience, fresh and tasty food, grate service and ambiance, the Branzino and the fried calamari were one of the best I ever had . Fried artichoke is a winner
Excellent! The mezze...omg...and the bread to accompany...DELICIOUS! Best hummus I have ever had. Also had excellent lobster risotto. YUM YUM YUM, can't wait to go back!
Best grilled octopus I’ve had - and I frequent the Greek restaurants in Astoria often.
I had the 3 mezzes hummus, labaneh, and spicy feta with their special bread. The food was very good. The rest of the party took the lobster risotto, and they weren't enthusiastic: way too salty, although it had plenty of lobster.
For dessert we had the Kanafeh and the chocolate souffle, both quite good.
The music level was a bit too high for a conversation but it wasn't too bad either.
Very average Lebanese . No Lebanese bread available they serve you a pizza with kebab . Found it a strange combination to even suggest when you ask for cheese naan to go with a kebab . Strangely Off .
The food was great, but the music, particularly to celebrate birthdays, was FAR too loud.
The food was excellent, however the restaurant itself was very loud not only from everyone talking in crowded space but from the loud music that they play as well. Service was also disappointing. The waiter paid minimal attention to us and screwed up my friends order twice
Overpriced - as example charged $8 for 5 small shrimps added to Greek salad
I.e $1.50 each! Even for a NYC restaurant, it's an outrage
Service was attentive and fast. Food came out quickly, and was great. My favorite dishes from the table were the Duck, and Calamari.
Had a great time! Highly recommend the spicy feta, chopped salad and the short ribs.
Brunch was delicious
I found that the wait staff was condescending.
Waiter was a bit rude in trying to rush us through a Friday evening but always a good time and usually fantastic food; last night a couple of blips.
Great food. Great service. All around a wonderful place to eat!
Staff was so nice and servers were very attentive, informative, and sweet. Food was excellent! Will need to come back and devour the rest of the amazing menu.
Overall loved the food. Just wish that the bottomless brunch came around more often (we only got 3 rounds) but again the food was so good!
Very good. Need new speakers though - current setup is completely blown so music sounds terrible
Love this restaurant for dinner but it is way too busy during brunch to be enjoyable. Hard to get refills on your bottomless options because the waiters are overwhelmed.
Wonderful spot! The hostess staff was so kind & patient with our party, as several of us arrived after the reservation time. The service was attentive; the food was delicious and nicely plated with good portion sizes; the bottomless champagne was a great value; and the atmosphere was bustling and exciting. Will be back!
A pleasant surprise. Food was delicious, a definite repeat.
I'm very disappointed in my dining experience here. I used to come here regularly a few years ago, and booked it for a birthday dinner before the theater. As a party of three adults, the hostess initially attempted to seat us almost literally on top of a server station. Her next offer was a table next to a noisy child. Even though it was early as it was pre-theater, and the restaurant wasn't crowded, she was reluctant to offer us another table -- but eventually did so. The food itself was disappointing. My scallops were not fresh, and I wasn't able to eat them. The ambience is lively, and the music was quite loud and mismatched to the setting. Overall, it was rather pricey for an underwhelming experience.
