Consistently great food quality, service and atmosphere. In a city with so many options, you won't go wrong with this one!
Not the place for a first date.
Great Mediterranean brunch. Good bottomless mimosas service, fun vibe with lots of energy.
Wait staff was excellent, food was even better! Must get the mezze trio (spicy feta, hummus & green tahini)! The dessert was also delicious
Still one of the most fun a sexy restaurants in the city!
The food was fabulous and so was the service. Yes, the prices are on the expensive side but for a special celebration or event, the atmosphere and the food created a great experience. Can't say it is on my regular night out list, but surely for special guests or celebration.
Very good food and interesting wine list. Cocktails are hit and miss depending on the bartender. Note: it's quite lively and loud even on a Wednesday evening.
Amazing food and desserts!
This was our third time eating at Barbounia, and we had always enjoyed the food and ambience. This Sunday Brunch experience was painfully loud and disturbing. We won’t be back.
We had reservations and were taken to our table when we arrived, but then had to wait standing by the table for a couple of awkward minutes because the manager was standing by our table trying to calm down an angry customer at the next table. The tables were so crowded together that we couldn’t sit down until he left. Once we settled in and got the menus, we noticed how loud the music was. It was a busy Sunday brunch crowd and they were all having to yell across the table to be heard above the music. When the waiter came to take our orders, he had trouble hearing what we were saying , so we had to point to the menu!
It was extremely difficult for the four of us to have any conversation at all at our small table. Then unbelievably, they cranked up the music to the max with Stevie Wonder’s “Happy Birthday” as the wait staff surrounded a table. We literally had to put our hands over our ears, it was so painful. They then brought our appetizers . . . Market vegetables, bread, hummus, green tahini, eggplant . . . All delicious. As we were finishing the appetizers and trying to have a yelled conversation, they cranked up the music Again with the “Happy Birthday” song! We sat there incredulously with our hands over our ears, again. Thankfully they brought our food within the next ten minutes, and we decided to eat quickly and leave. I was disappointed that my mushroom omelet was very bland and had very few herbs that I could see or taste. As we were eating our main course, they cranked up the music to the max a THIRD time, playing “Happy Birthday.” The ambience was like a loud TGIFridays! We left as quickly as possible, went around the corner to the Old Town Bar, and had a beer and very enjoyable conversation.
Awesome place for a boozy brunch! Food is delicious, large portions, and champagne cocktails are always flowing if you choose the unlimited drink option!
We have loved this restaurant from the start, several years ago. Every dish is beautiful and delicious. Expert and daring preparations from the kitchen make your meal outstanding. The grilled octopus is succulent and wonderful. The tuna crudo is sublime. The wild mushroom and truffle flatbread excellent as are the hummus, lava what and tahini. We all loved every bite. Great bar and even excellent desserts if you have room. We cannot wait to return. Our servers were all excellent and really cared for our table. Bravo to all at Barbounia.
As always the food and ambiance was great. We ended up sitting at the bar because it took a little too long to get a table ready, but they allowed us to start our bottomless while we waited. Once we decided to stay at the bar, the bartender was very attentive. Overall, excellent brunch!
amazing decor, food and service. The spicy feta and smoked eggplant were so delicious!
My fav restaurant in the city. Great food !
Great place. Will be back soon
This place never disappoints. The food is delicious and we always over order!! It’s loud. Service is great. The feta is divine and so is the lamb..... the fresh warm bread is delicious! We love it here. Kid friendly if your kid enjoys yummy flavorful food :)
Great atmosphere and energy from the moment you enter this Mediterranean style restaurant...
Interesting cuisine, always fun and good service to match...
It was my husband’s 40th birthday. We came to NYC from Mexico to celebrate and our friend recommended Barbounia and it did not disappoint!
This was our second visit to Barbounia and although overall the evening was fine, there were several aspects that have made our returning unlikely. The prices were high for the quality of the food. Presentation was interesting, but steak was tough and the lamb kebab was not what I expected. Very heavy.
The noise level was high so it was hard to talk. But the thing that got to me most was the servers. They were overly attentive, and constantly at the table trying to remove the dishes before we were finished. Plus any choice we made for food or drink, the waiter kept trying to up-sell. So whatever choice we made, he would say "oh, would you rather have the ____ ($10. more)?" For my choice of wine, he questioned whether I wouldn't rather have the pricier name. Even at dessert time, we wanted to share something and he pointed to the special ($7.00 more) and asked if we wouldn't prefer that. I'm sure the management required this up-selling, but it is very off putting and so for these reasons we will not return.
Service is a bit rushed. Other than that it's a nice restaurant.
Food was delicious
Barbounia is very good with excellent service and a nice ambiance. My only complaint are the prices - they are a bit high, especially for the drinks. At $18 a cocktail and a $14 minimum per glass of wine, our dinner bill was quite high after two rounds of drinks.
The food is great though so I would recommend Barbounia for dinner - just be careful about the drink tab.
Barbounia has excellent food, good service. easy to access. only thing is a little bit noisy.
Excellent brunch! Lively vibe. Prompt service.
My date was worse than the food!
Very loud and the food took a long time to come qe were only a party of 2 a party of 6 were sat right next to us and they shared 2 entrees and had 2 appetizers they had much better service and there food came out faster we both ordered entrees and appetizers we were still waiting for our entrees when the party of 6 were done eating there entrees . I had to ask the server how long will the food take twice never had a manager come over and apologize or even check on us.
The food was delicious. I had the fish tajine and it was scrumptious. Small portion for the price though. My friend had the dorade and he enjoyed it immensely. The wine was also quite good. The service was excellent but the noise level made it difficult to have a conversation. I would recommend the restaurant and will likely go there again.
Always a pleasure dining at Barbounia. Rich, vibrant atmosphere and all of the staff is very warm and gracious. Great place to go with a group, as there r so many delicious things to taste and share—the hummus, the flatbreads, the pizzas, a selection of dips. My cousin and I went for brunch this time and after sharing a few appetizers, we both got an egg dish. Hers was slightly overlooked, and the kitchen quickly made it again and also presented us with an exotic cocktail for the mishap with the food. All In All, I always enjoy going to Barbounia and am never disappointed. Thank You!
We waited a half hour for our reserved table. Had to wait in the bar area which was packed like a cab of sardines. Loud and attitude from hostess who seemed miffed that I was wondering how long it would be to be seated at our reserved table.
Been coming here for years. Absolutely love the food especially the Octopus and Tomato, feta, cucumber salad. Had the venison special which was outstanding.
It’s always been a loud restaurant but the tables to the left of the kitchen deeper in are a little quieter.
This is an overwhelmingly beautiful and grand restaurant yet somehow sitting at our little corner table, very romantic.
From the moment the elegant hostess from Paris took us to our perfect table, to the moment we met our dashing and handsome server, Igor, we just knew we were in for a memorable brunch. We were not disappointed.
The mezze are each superb. We tried several of them and each was delicious. The bread that was served was so hot from the oven that it could not be touched. And it was wonderful.
All other courses- too many to mention- were well prepared and scrumptious.
Amongst all the glories here however, Igor, was the highlight. He made it all even more dazzling!
Food & service are consistently excellent! Happy hour is outstanding as well.
Better than I thought it would be. Creative menu and extensive wine list.
The food and ambience were wonderful. Had the most delicious duck and the raw oysters with avocado and fish roe were sublime.
I had been to this restaurant before and always enjoyed it. However this time I did not. As soon as I arrived I noticed a DJ playing VERY loud music. We stayed and had dinner but the music was way to loud to have a conversation comfortably. On top of that they had someone going around playing percussion and that made it super loud. This is not how I like to eat dinner. As for the food it was o.k. at best.
The food is divine. The Duck entree is one of the best in the city. It's a popular restaurant, so hearing your conversation is difficult.
The food, service and ambiance were undeniably amazing.. however the place feels cramped and the noise level was high..
Appetizers and salads were excellent. Bronzino was small and needed more flavor from the olives. Sorbet very good. Coffee not hot. Sent back and second cup not hot either.
Service was excellent. Music very loud and we could not hold a conversation. Expensive!
The food and atmosphere at Barbounia are always amazing. Their cocktails are delicious too. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. Wonderful date night spot!! Highly recommend.
Two of us who had been there for lunch had recommended this restaurant for a family reunion (three couples). My sister-in-law, whose office is close by, and I were pleased with our food; we both had tagines. The others said their food was "OK" but extremely overpriced. They said they would not return despite the excellent ambiance and service. I had shared the menu with everyone before making the reservation, so what this means to me is they were willing to pay your prices for spectacular food. It seems they found the food good but not exceptionally good. For example, my husband mentioned that he would have preferred the full fish, not a "small" filet. My cousin said the duck was good but not worth $38.00: The hors-d'oevres were OK, in my opinion, but not exceptional. We've liked them more at Turkish restaurants on the UES. My short ribs tagine was very good. I try not to eat red meat, but my exception that evening was worth it. We enjoyed the red wine we ordered. So I guess my sister-in-law and I will be back for lunch but not for dinner....
The dining room looked stunning at night.
