Excellent! The mezze...omg...and the bread to accompany...DELICIOUS! Best hummus I have ever had. Also had excellent lobster risotto. YUM YUM YUM, can't wait to go back!
Best grilled octopus I’ve had - and I frequent the Greek restaurants in Astoria often.
I had the 3 mezzes hummus, labaneh, and spicy feta with their special bread. The food was very good. The rest of the party took the lobster risotto, and they weren't enthusiastic: way too salty, although it had plenty of lobster.
For dessert we had the Kanafeh and the chocolate souffle, both quite good.
The music level was a bit too high for a conversation but it wasn't too bad either.
The food was great, but the music, particularly to celebrate birthdays, was FAR too loud.
The food was excellent, however the restaurant itself was very loud not only from everyone talking in crowded space but from the loud music that they play as well. Service was also disappointing. The waiter paid minimal attention to us and screwed up my friends order twice
Overpriced - as example charged $8 for 5 small shrimps added to Greek salad
I.e $1.50 each! Even for a NYC restaurant, it's an outrage
Service was attentive and fast. Food came out quickly, and was great. My favorite dishes from the table were the Duck, and Calamari.
Had a great time! Highly recommend the spicy feta, chopped salad and the short ribs.
Brunch was delicious
Waiter was a bit rude in trying to rush us through a Friday evening but always a good time and usually fantastic food; last night a couple of blips.
Great food. Great service. All around a wonderful place to eat!
Staff was so nice and servers were very attentive, informative, and sweet. Food was excellent! Will need to come back and devour the rest of the amazing menu.
Overall loved the food. Just wish that the bottomless brunch came around more often (we only got 3 rounds) but again the food was so good!
Very good. Need new speakers though - current setup is completely blown so music sounds terrible
Wonderful spot! The hostess staff was so kind & patient with our party, as several of us arrived after the reservation time. The service was attentive; the food was delicious and nicely plated with good portion sizes; the bottomless champagne was a great value; and the atmosphere was bustling and exciting. Will be back!
A pleasant surprise. Food was delicious, a definite repeat.
I'm very disappointed in my dining experience here. I used to come here regularly a few years ago, and booked it for a birthday dinner before the theater. As a party of three adults, the hostess initially attempted to seat us almost literally on top of a server station. Her next offer was a table next to a noisy child. Even though it was early as it was pre-theater, and the restaurant wasn't crowded, she was reluctant to offer us another table -- but eventually did so. The food itself was disappointing. My scallops were not fresh, and I wasn't able to eat them. The ambience is lively, and the music was quite loud and mismatched to the setting. Overall, it was rather pricey for an underwhelming experience.
Food, decor and service were great. Unfortunately, music was blasting too loud. My wife and I were sitting across a small table for only two people and yet it was impossible to have a conversation. By the time we left my ears were ringing. Enough of a reason not to go back.
This was an amazing meal. Everything tasted super fresh, with great flavors. Highly recommend the lamb stuffed artichoke and the Branzino!
Service was so slow. Seated 30 minutes past our reservation time. Bottomless brunch was a joke as the waiter only came over twice in 2 hours to refill your drink.
Even with a reservation, there was a wait. I can see why it's hard for them to get people out the door, though, so not really a deal breaker. Otherwise, it's always a great experience. The quality and value are unbeatable!
Appetizers were great — bread and hummus and cauliflower. Waiter talked us into sirloin steak instead of flank steak. He said sirloin would be more tender. Steak was full of fat and grizzly. Not good.
Had an excellent meal here! The hummus and spiced feta appetizer with warm pita bread and Greek salad were delicious, and the lamb kabobs were outstanding....served uniquely in a round dish covered with warm pita and stewed with tomatoes and onions. Service was very friendly and attentive. There’s a reason this place has been around a long time. Don’t miss dining here !!!
Aa amazing experience - well worth the money.
This is one of favorite restaurants in the Gramercy Park area!
Service was bad, waiter tried to convince me what I want to eat completely disregarding my orders. Noise was horrendous, there was a table next to us, 5 people crowded into a table for 4 so the lady next to me was basically in my lap. They brought us the wrong meal. Not a recommendation if you want a relaxed meal. Food was great though.
Although I had understood a restaurant offering a number of vegetarian options would work for a friend, it turned out that typical ingredients such as tomatoes, red peppers and onions are not good for her. She finally settled on grilled fish with a green vegetable that she seemed to enjoy. Another friend who, like me, had been there before and was familiar with the menu ordered a chicken sandwich she seemed happy with. Since Greek-Turkish hors-d'oevres are favorites of mine, I thoroughly enjoyed a delicious platter of spicy eggplant, tarama salata, and creamy hummous. My husband had a taste of the balance with some raki on ice before dinner. I intend to return with some family members who truly enjoy the items I had, which they will follow with grilled fish and veggies. I really like the high ceilings and windows, as well as the banquettes. Nonetheless, I would have appreciated more attention to water. My request for water with ice was not honored; when we were ready to leave, the server brought more plain water; I had been thirsty for a while and was about to board a subway to return to the UES after meeting friends who live and work in the West Village.
I made a reservation for a lunch meeting. Staff was friendly. Food was amazing. Amazing! I ordered beet salad (very above average) and my guest ordered a lamb dish in a clay pot. The only downside was the server was a bit annoying and kept interrupting our meeting. Besides that, I loved the ambiance. My guest was impressed -- Mission accomplished.
Very expensive for what you get, artichokes a disappointment as they’re not fresh but preserved. Wine very expensive. Venue beautiful. Staff nice, banquette seating very tight.
Restaurant was beautiful. We thoroughly enjoyed the food.
I personally like this place way way way way better for dinner than brunch . Usually my favorite and I was super disappoainted with the brunch
Haven't been in a while (pregnancy & early childhood years) but finally made a return to my FAVORITE brunch spot and... it was AS amazing as I'd left it, minus the staff I once knew. Hands down, my favorite NYC brunch spot, even after all these years!!
Bottomless brunch was so fun and food was delicious!!!
Loved of the Ambiance, the service was amazing and the food was incredible! They were able to modify just move my dietary restrictions but the food was still amazing.
12 people, “20% service charge included. But the still had suggested tip field of 18,20 or 22%. Several other experiences trying to add $ that were deceptive will deter me from returning or recommending despite good food. Spent too much energy worrying about getting ripped off
bad valentines day experience very disappointed with service. All other times dining at Barbounia was a pleasure and food and drinks has always been wonderful to the palette
Beautiful restaurant with very nice service and the food was delicious. The only negative was the seating was a bit cramped.
The spreads and appetizers we're delicious. Friendly staff and service was great.
Was told it was the “best non-steakhouse” meal in nyc. Not somplace I would go multiple times but great one off night. Did not disappoint great food and would recommend to friends
