Barbounia Ratings and Reviews
New York restaurants are notoriously tight on space. This was, without a doubt the most crowded, cramped experience I have had in ages. Tables so close together neither me nor the guy at the table text to me were able to sit squarely at our own tables without constantly bumping each other. Food couldn’t all be placed on the table by the staff without removing glasses and have plates overlap the edge. Too cramped to be enjoyed fully.
Server was terrible, rushing us and rolling eyes. Really ridiculous. If anyone bothered to stop by our table to ask, we would have said something. Wanted to leave zero tip but the other staff (runners and bus) were very nice and didn't want to stiff them. Main server should not be in service industry!
I have been to Barbounia many times and the food is excellent along with the service. This past time the food was not as impressive as in my past visits and I found the bill to be more expensive than in the past. I would go back as restaurants do have an off day.
I went there with my date for happy hour. The bar is tight so make a reservation, get there early and take your seats. All is fine once you are there but standing around to wait for a seat would not be fun, so take my advice. The happy hour food menu is enough - good options. Our waiter convinced us to order more expensive items and they were not better or worth it so stick to the happy hour menu and drinks. I'm not sure about the regular menu items butit looked good for the little I did see. Lastly, the ambiance and location is excellent. No disappointments there.
Arrived feeling festive and light hearted, Left feeling a little disappointed! The ambiance and energy of the restaurant was lovely!!! Staff were attentive beginning of the evening. However our mains arrived when we were still eating our appetizers. And the risotto was awfully over cooked. And we had to ask for the dessert menu 3 times before it was given to us over half an hour later. Understand it was Christmas but left feeling not so festive . Feel like it could be hit or miss, and unfortunately I feel we missed.
We booked Christmas Dinner at Barbounia, knowing as visitors from Australia we would not be able to get a traditional Australian Christmas dinner. However, we were not disappointed by the creative and delicious food, worthy of the occasion. Decor was wonderful.
We went for Christmas lunch only to find out that it was their brunch menu, which was not indicated on their website. Also the service was terrible. The waitress lost our order, our table was being "set up" for over 20 minutes, even though we had reservations and had arrived on time. The food was ok, but not special.
We loved this place! The restaurant was not too crowded, staffs were friendly and foods were good :) They have amazing flatbread and we really enjoyed their Saganki and Turkish Eggs. I recommended this place to my brother to take his girlfriend for dinner in Christmas and they also loved the restaurant as well.
Almost got run over by waitstaff as I entered and was being led to table. Pretty shocking that he wouldn't yield to a customer. Food was very good but the noise level was LOUD. I felt myself leaning over the table to hear my guest. Sat along the wall and the space between other diners on either side was not enough.
Had an 8:30 PM res on a Saturday night and were seated immediately by a friendly maitre'd
Beautifully decorated room for the holidays. An upside down christmas tree hanging from the ceiling They had a Hannukah menu!! The cauliflower, octopus and salmon were all good, even though we asked for our salmon to be cooked medium and it came out medium rare.
The service was uneven. The friendly busboys were good until they took my plate away while my husband was still eating his food. Thefriendly waiter left my dirty silverware on the table when changing out plates after apps. That did not ruin our evening. We had a cozy corner table overlooking the theater going on while we ate. So fun The chocolate mousse cake was not good but I can spin that into a positive also. After two bites I put my fork down. Just not good enough to eat the whole thing.
This place is well worth the price. It was beautifully decked out in christmas decor and looked festive and fun. Great place to bring a date or celebrate with a group of friends. The drinks are fantastic and the food is delicious. Highly recommend the hummus and soft bread that comes with it. Can't go wrong with Barbounia.
Barbounia is nothing short of culinary heaven. I came from Boston to NYC for a special occasion, and, despite taking several hours to get there due to a snowstorm, the food was absolutely delicious. There was a very busy and vibrant pre-holiday crowd, but the staff was courteous and receptive, and acted like I was the only person in the room. I cannot wait to go back! In very grateful appreciation, - K.
Beautifully decorated restaurant and a good energy. Great service. I was not happy with the wine list, there just are just too many high end priced bottles, not enough mid range good selections. Appetizers were very good but entrees were average for the price.
