Barbounia Ratings and Reviews
this restaurant has a really fun vibe - it was lively and loud. the issue is there is no waiting room in the entrance so youre just clumped together very uncomfortably with tons of ppl waiting to be seated. the food was great though - got the classic greek salad, salmon kebabs and the mousse. my friend got the hanger steak. would definitely want to go back to try more.
I’ve been coming to Barbounia for YEARS and my most recent visit was a massive disappointment. I was catching up with a friend I hadn’t seen in months. We had finished a couple rounds of drinks, appetizers, entrees and were basically finishing our drinks before ordering another round, when (mid conversation) we were told by our waiter “you have to leave because a party is waiting for the table”. Obviously I made a reservation for the table that evening and we were never told another party had reserved it, or there was a time limit. Surprised, we looked around and noticed there were other empty tables in the restaurant! We asked to speak to a manager who (several minutes later) came to us and while mildly apologetic for the mishap, told us “we need to move because it’s a highly desired location and has been reserved”. He never offered us another table, but said we could move to the (now very crowded) bar. Patrons sitting near us were now noticing and began to comment on how rudely we were treated. My friend and I have taken clients here. Can you imagine if that happened during a business dinner? A romantic date? I’ve been to smaller places in the city that have time limits for turnover, but they are sure to tell you before being seated. Barbounia is very large and at that point we had spent $180+ and planned to spend more. Our stay was more than justified. Also the Manager should have been the one to address us first and offered, at the very least, another table. It wasn’t until coming over (at our request) and making a scene for several minutes that the Manager offered us a round of drinks.. at the bar. At that point we just wanted the check, to pay and leave. I’m in no way an entitled or snobby person. I imagine anyone being “booted out” would feel as embarrassed and insulted.
If you want to spend nearly $200 to be treated as second-rate and rushed through a meal, you’ve found your place.
Going forward, I choose to spend my money elsewhere.
Service was terrible. We had to send back a few things we ordered and the waitress was irritated by this. Even though we had asked for a few things like, well done, sauce on side, no garlic. All three different dishes were prepared incorrectly. Even though the waitress said all were written down and doable she was irritated and short with us when they had to be sent back. We also felt the food didn't taste nearly as good as we had hoped. The menu looks appealing if only the food was as good as described.
Went there for a Saturday brunch with some friends.
PROs: Service was attentive, food arrived on time and they were pretty generous with the unlimited drink refills. Kept refilling our glasses even after they cleared our plates which was nice as most places typically stop serving or move you to the bar. Great menu for brunch too!
CONs: Extremely loud and difficult to have a conversation. There were plenty of birthdays that day where they played loud celebratory music each time for the whole restaurant to witness. A la carte cocktails are also pretty pricey.
Overall, a good option for special occasions but not so much if you want to have a decent conversation without too many distractions.
The food was good but service was an absolute mess from when we walked in. Table wasn’t ready so we went to the bar- no problem. When we asked for a menu the bartender couldn’t be bothered.. we had to ask again and he chucked it onto the bar. As we were reading it, our table was ready. We ordered and the food came out very quickly but everything was so messy. I think they had way too many people working so there were too many bodies in a place where there are too many tables. The waiters could barely move around our table which was awkward and eventually led to one of them bumping an entire glass of red wine on our table and laps. Lastly, don’t sit by the window... it’s nice until the scent of horses wafts in as you’re trying to eat... then the curtain comes flying in when the wind blows nearly knocking more things off our table.
But- the food was good! I’d return and maybe ask to sit at a different table? I don’t know.
We haven't been to Barbounia in a while, but we made reservations to take friends from out of town. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to share, and later ordered dinner. We were not rushed, pushed, or expected to leave quickly, as it was a saturday night. Great staff. Great food. Great night out.
I picked this restaurant because of the menu. I don't eat meat and my husband does. I thought it would satisfy us both. The hummus and the cigar roles were very good. I had salad with shrimp on it and my husband had the lamb. Both very good.
The belly dancing was a huge surprise! Was a fun night!
Amazing service, outstanding food and great ambiance. Restaurant was packed on a Tuesday night but they waiters and support staff as well as the management were checking on all tables constantly. Staff were happy and proud. I will definitely go back. 5 star all the way.
The restaurant was not properly air conditioned. The place was so loud & they blasted music in 10 when they brought out birthday cakes...2x during our hour long visit. The server was nice but clueless. Removing my fellow diners plates while I was still eating. Never again. What was once a nice restaurant (been going for 10 years, now feels like a frat party. Entrees overpriced. Skip it unless you’re 22 and looking to get wasted. Good luck with that tho bc the bottomless brunch Bellinis are 1/2 juice.
The food was great and the restaurant is beautiful but the service was lack luster. We had to ask the guy serving the water for drinks because a server didn't come up to us for a solid 15 minutes. When someone did finally come up to us after 20 minutes the guy opened up by saying "I'm not your server but I will take your order" . . . Our server only came up to us at the end of our meal to ask if everything was ok and then brought us our check without even asking if we wanted another drink, which we did. I would definitely go to Barbounia again but I will request another server if I got that woman again.
We love Barbounia - our 3rd visit and we always enjoy coming back. The restaurant ambiance, service and food are excellent. Noise level is active for a fun environment. Only drawback is the width between the tables on the wall along the banquette. It's very tight.
To improve the overall dining experience of customers at these 2-person tables, consider removing 1 table to provide slightly more width between the table enhancing comfort, privacy and flow.
