Barbounia is nothing short of culinary heaven. I came from Boston to NYC for a special occasion, and, despite taking several hours to get there due to a snowstorm, the food was absolutely delicious. There was a very busy and vibrant pre-holiday crowd, but the staff was courteous and receptive, and acted like I was the only person in the room. I cannot wait to go back! In very grateful appreciation, - K.

Beautifully decorated restaurant and a good energy. Great service. I was not happy with the wine list, there just are just too many high end priced bottles, not enough mid range good selections. Appetizers were very good but entrees were average for the price.

High energy, lively place with great ambiance. Delicious drinks and tasty food. The lunch menu could use a bit more options though. The place is always packed and seating is tight.

Overall experience was great!
Would have been nice if they had done something special, since the occasion was a birthday one and was noted when the reservation was made. Maybe dessert on the house for the birthday person, etc. The waiter suggested the special 4 donuts for dessert, when we got them-they were so stale. We felt bad and just asked to have them packed to go.

We've been here many times. I have to say the food (Saturday Dec 2) was better than usual (which is why the "good" rating) BUT crowded tables and HOT temperature of the restaurant overall was in a word, off-putting. Folks on either side of our table brought the warmth of the room to the attention of the waiter/management. We did too - twice - but cant be sure if anything meaningful was done to alleviate the too-warm temp.
Tables are WAY TOO PACKED together, more so than in the past it seems, making it difficult to move and not feel like I'm actually having dinner with the strangers - however nice - at adjacent tables :) Even having a drink at the bar was a challenge. OK, bars can be crowded, a given, but the stools that were provided and lined up were literally on top of each other; Does management actually think people can actually fill each stool? it would be literally physically impossible; people would be sitting on each other. REMOVE SOME STOOLS!
So, even though food and service were fairly good (despite challenges the servers faced with room temp and overcrowding) its hard to give an overall glowing rating when the experience in general was uncomfortable and stressful. Also, perhaps if the servers slowed down a bit and not tried to turn each table over asap, that would help too. Is that what management is telling them? "Get 'em in and out" ??
So...Instead of leaving with a satisfied feeling of having experienced good service and good food and having had all that hard work by your staff pay off, what comes through instead is a distinct feeling of greediness and "packing them in" to get those "extra" $$. Sure you're crowded now but people eventually get tired of being treated like cattle.
Barbounia management: How about you remove a single table from each row to relieve the overcrowding? Surely, you'll still make lots of money but maybe the OTHER reason you're in business (to serve and provide a nice dining experience to paying customers) can be helped too :)

Our dining experience was outstanding in all ways. The food was exceptionally good - we chose vegan options, which were delicious - very fresh ingredients! The wine we selected was wonderful - the Montalchino. Our wait staff were unusually attentive, helpful, and friendly.
We look forward to our next meal at Barbounia.

My wife and I dined here on a Friday evening after work. The restaurant was packed. People at the bar were elbow to elbow like sardines packed in a can. We were , however, seated at our table immediately upon entering and were glad to avoid the bar area.

While the decor is nice, the layout of the dining room provided for a very uncomfortable evening. The tables are literally inches apart. The gentleman sitting next to me on my right kept banging into my elbow and was practically sitting in my lap. Not his fault, the tables were too close together to avoid it. The chair occupied by the person dining behind me was on top of my chair. Moreover, they were having a problem regulating the temeperature in the dining room. While it was a cool December evening, the dining was very, very warm and uncomfortable.

The food is good. The short ribs were very tender and perfectly seasoned. The other dishes, including the duck schwarma, were also good, if not a bit salty and over-spiced.

The drinks are over-pricecd for the amount of alcohol. The drinks were mostly ice and not at all potent.

The service was the highlight of an otherwise lackluster, and uncomfortable evening. The wait- staff, while appearing overwhelmed with the dinner rush, was very friendly and tried its best. On the other hand, there were times that we felt rushed just to get the next course put onto our table. We skipped dessert just to get out of there. In fact, we took most of the food home and finished it that evening.

We will not return nor do we recommend.

Authentic cuisine. Food came out hot. Attention to quality and presentation was appreciated.
Price point is on par for Park avenue address.
This is a very pretty place to eat inside. Although the bathrooms are rather chilly due them being individual stalls made of marble. It's like your own personal mausoleum, a little claustrophobic for me personally.
Go for the food - it's delicious!

We had a bunch of appetizers and got so full we didn’t have to order anything else!!! The hummus was delicious with the fluffy bread they serve... the cheeseboard has 5 or 6 delicious cheeses... the salami charcuterie was sliced super thin and was very yummy! My favorite was the cauliflower and pickled veggies!!! Will go back!!

Always have enjoyed coming here for drinks and dinner. Usually a 4+ experience. However service this time was subpar and disappointing. Waiters seemed only interested in large tables or standing around in front corner of restaurant. We werent even sure who our waiter was. Never brought last drink orders, never offered dessert... Hopefully will be better next time.

Mixed feelings. The place is noisy, when you arrive they won't let you take the table until all party members are there and ask to wait at the bar, which it's fine but... There is no space at the bar. Tables are very close to each other. People literally hit each other by chairs. At the same time food is really good and service is warm and friendly.

The food was good but probably a little not expensive than you’re typical brunch place. My biggest complaint was that we made a 2:15 reservation but weren’t seated until 3:15; kind of defeats the purpose of a reservation.

this restaurant has a really fun vibe - it was lively and loud. the issue is there is no waiting room in the entrance so youre just clumped together very uncomfortably with tons of ppl waiting to be seated. the food was great though - got the classic greek salad, salmon kebabs and the mousse. my friend got the hanger steak. would definitely want to go back to try more.

I’ve been coming to Barbounia for YEARS and my most recent visit was a massive disappointment. I was catching up with a friend I hadn’t seen in months. We had finished a couple rounds of drinks, appetizers, entrees and were basically finishing our drinks before ordering another round, when (mid conversation) we were told by our waiter “you have to leave because a party is waiting for the table”. Obviously I made a reservation for the table that evening and we were never told another party had reserved it, or there was a time limit. Surprised, we looked around and noticed there were other empty tables in the restaurant! We asked to speak to a manager who (several minutes later) came to us and while mildly apologetic for the mishap, told us “we need to move because it’s a highly desired location and has been reserved”. He never offered us another table, but said we could move to the (now very crowded) bar. Patrons sitting near us were now noticing and began to comment on how rudely we were treated. My friend and I have taken clients here. Can you imagine if that happened during a business dinner? A romantic date? I’ve been to smaller places in the city that have time limits for turnover, but they are sure to tell you before being seated. Barbounia is very large and at that point we had spent $180+ and planned to spend more. Our stay was more than justified. Also the Manager should have been the one to address us first and offered, at the very least, another table. It wasn’t until coming over (at our request) and making a scene for several minutes that the Manager offered us a round of drinks.. at the bar. At that point we just wanted the check, to pay and leave. I’m in no way an entitled or snobby person. I imagine anyone being “booted out” would feel as embarrassed and insulted.

If you want to spend nearly $200 to be treated as second-rate and rushed through a meal, you’ve found your place.
Going forward, I choose to spend my money elsewhere.

Appetizers were good but the flat bread was pretty chewy and testeless. Also the tables are too closely placed and the flat breads arrive on a tray which is bigger than the narrow table.
