I went for brunch with friends. They have a bottomless brunch option of bellinis, mimosas and champagne. Whatever you asked for, you received the same drink which was outrageous. Even asking the waitress for one of each, she poured same drink from the same bottle... That reflects very poorly and cheaply on the establishment.
The food was OK for the price. Nothing out of the ordinary but not bad either. We ordered labne, hummus, shawarma lamb kebab and a burger. The shawarma didn't come wrapped in a pita and the chicken variant shud always come with a white garlic paste without which idk what's the point of calling it a shwarama. The hummus had significant tahini undertaste.
I've wanted to try Barbounia for a long time and the food was delicious and just enough. The noise level was noticeably very high all over the restaurant and as everyone was shouting at those at their tables. The waiters were very attentive as well and it almost seemed they were eager to turn the table.
My friends birthday! The happy hour deal is a MUST so def recommend getting a reservation from 3-before 7! We had ours at 7 but got there an hour early to enjoy apps and drinks at the bar for a really great price and they were very nice about it!
It was our first time dinning here. It was a wonderful surprise when we walked in. The Holiday decor was fabulous added to the holiday spirit. Every dish was wonderful and had a unique touch of fall. The red snapper dish that I ordered was on a bed of roasted delicate squash which was done just right. Staff was very courteous and answered any questions we had about the menu. We felt it was an absolutely perfect dinning experience and we would recommend it to our friends and family for a unique experience.
Fun place for friends to get together!
This was a great find. Having been to lunch, I returned there to take my family to brunch. The hosts coped with constant activity (thanks Anita!)seating the guests with good humour and we really enjoyed the meal with our teenage daughter emerging and declaring the pancakes as the best...no faint praise from a real aficionado!
We'll be back...breakfast and dinner next
Nice ambiance without the noise usually associated with a trendy place. Great variety in food choices. Nice cocktails!
Loved the brunch!!!
Wonderful as always
We reserved a table for thanksgiving dinner with my sister and fiancé, expecting the thanksgiving dinner menu, which is the primary reason for us choosing the restaurant over going somewhere else and choosing to stay at home. First, we waited over 20 min past our reservation time to be seated. Next, they ran out of all dessert options (not a single item was available) and also ran out of 2/3 entree items, and ended up paying a pricey dinner for disappointment. I’d have expected the restaurant to at least plan for enough inventory for their confirmed reservation guests. The servers were pleasant and courteous, and decorations / ambiance were beautiful, but actual food experience was underwhelming for what we expected from Barbounia.
Nice decor, very good food especially octopus, was fantastic. The host, a young lady was unfriendly, the restaurant had very strong smell/ smoke from open kitchen. Our server was very nice, some of them were snobby.
Very positive. Food was delicious
Great experience at Barbounia. Good food and excellent service
Very enjoyable. Highly recommend
The service was terrible, I was rushed to my table by a rude hostess who put us in a crowded seat. the food (aside from the shrimp) tasted like it was made at a TGIF. It was obvious that they were just trying to turn the table as quickly as possible. Overall, it felt like a restaurant that was trying to be upscale (and charging as such) but unable to deliver on any aspect of it.
The food and wine were great per usual. The server however seemed to be in a rush and made us uncomfortable.
Food is overpriced and underwhelming . Used to be much better .
Service is good and efficient but the quality of food was disappointing
My friend had to return her fish because it had turned. The chicken in my salad was inedible.
Never coming back. Whoa.
Some excellent dishes and some only good. Restaurant is super pretty but too loud, particularly because tables are also very large making rt even harder to hear each other.
I never write reviews, but I had to for this one. Go to this restaurant. The food, atmosphere, and service are better than some much more expensive restaurants I've been to.
Awkward moment where the staff tried to squeeze our large group into a table arrangement that would not accommodate our size (which would have been even more pronounced had one of our group who was not able to attend made it), but we were able to work it out with adequate seating. Very good drinks and delicious food. Some of our orders were missed and never made it to the table, but we had plenty and probably for the best. Great atmosphere and fun place for large groups.
Food was outstanding. Service was even better. Loved how cool the inside was
Must order the bread & dip platter! The garlic shrimp were very good as well. Order extra bread to dip.
The food was very good, service too but the noise level was exceedingly high. Tables were too close together. I’d go back at lunch but not dinner if it’s this loud and crowded
The food is spectacular, Dinner was a delightful affair
The service was excellent.Warm and lovely dining experience.
Barbounia was a lovely experience, offering a chic New York twist to Mediterranean favorites.
The host/concierge was very friendly and helpful in finding a table suitable for a first date. The service was outstanding, as was the food.
Have lived in the neighborhood for years and finally decided to stop in for dinner on Saturday. The service was great, the food fantastic. However the meal was quite expensive. We had a greek salad and 4 appetizers and 2 glasses of wine. With tip the meal cost $176. That is high for the amount of food served.
Food was overpriced
My entree was way over cooked
Seating was uncomfortable because restaurant packing too many tables in and close together
This restaurant is one to skip
Always a favorite. Love this place!
Great food and great service everytime I go. Portugese octopus is my fav dish!
Food was delicious-we shared the mezze of spicy feta, labneh, and hummus, and also crispy artichoke for starters. We also shared a branzino and a side of mushrooms. The fish was amazing but the vegetables were a bit salty and the mushrooms were too salty by far. We’ll both go back but skip the mushrooms 😊
I love this place! Every time I'm in NYC I make a reservations and always have a fantastic meal! It should be on everyone's must visit list.
I had scheduled a 7:30 reservation for Friday night at Barbounia. When the 4 of us arrived, they said that it would be a moment before seating us so we should grab a seat at the bar. After about 25 minutes at the bar, and plenty other parties being seated, they sat us at our table. Food was very good, but not the best experience with service!
We were sat right away. Everything was delicious. Noise level is a bit much though.
Server Brian was excellent
The food was good, but we felt pressured all the time to expedite our dinner, as if we were in a factory. Very expensive considering the poor experience.
I live in Texas but frequent New York often. Barbounia is hands down my favorite place. If I’m having a casual lunch with a friend or an intimate dinner, Barbounia is a must when I’m in the city. Food is incredible, atmosphere is perfect and the staff and service are always meeting and exceeding expectations. If you’re in the city, you can’t pass it up.
It was great, although the prices are a bit inflated.
